The document summarizes the results of a survey about magazine preferences for a target audience. It found that the audience was slightly more male than female, primarily aged 16-21, and preferred to buy magazines in shops. The audience highly used social media platforms like Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter. They preferred the name "Riot!" and wanted interviews as the main article content. They also preferred a monthly magazine release schedule and were influenced by the styles of Rock Sound and Alternative Press magazines for the cover and Q magazine for the contents page.
2. Target Audience Gender
The chart shows that there is slightly more
males than females (only 1 more) so I must
make my magazine target both genders to aim
towards my target audience
3. Target Audience Age
The pie chart shows that the primary target
audience consists of the ages of 16 – 21.
The next was 13 – 15 year olds with slightly less
than the other two, but a lot more than the
others.
4. How do people mostly buy
magazines
The pie chart shows most people buy magazines
from shops, so I must make my magazine eye
catching, so people will see it over others in the
magazine rack.
5. Primary and Secondary Audience
use of social networking
(30 from each age group asked)
The chart showed that the majority of my
primary target audience use social networking
such as Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. My
secondary audiences use less social
networking, but it shows that the magazine
should have online access (Twitter/ facebook/
tumblr)
6. Magazine Name – surveyed by the
primary target audience
The bar chart showed that Riot! Was the most
popular name in my target audience, so I will
use that in my magazine.
7. Main Article Content
This shows that I should have an interview as my
main article, as it was the preferred choice for
the Main Article content for the magazine.
8. Magazine release
The target audience felt like they were more
likely to buy a monthly magazine and so I will
make my magazine a monthly magazine, with
more contents inside.
9. Front Cover Style
Model
After showing 30 males and 30
females rom my primary target
audience the three magazine front
covers, most of them preferred the
Rock Sound Cover, closely followed by
Alternative Press.
This means I will have a much less
cluttered, more simplistic front cover
and a very strict colour scheme of a
maximum of 5 colours.
Also, I will be referring to Rock Sound
while creating my magazine to see
the magazine conventions in the
particular magazine.
10. Contents Page Style Model
The results show that
the Q magazine
contents page was the
most popular, due to it
being the “easiest to
read”. Though, it is a
double page, so I will
need to make a single
page contents page
with a similar layout to
that of the contents
page of Q – keeping
with the house style of
my front cover.
11. Feature Article Layout
The feature article for
Kerrang! was preferred
slightly to that of Rock
Sound, so I must do a more
detailed article on my artist
with very profound images
and make the article longer
with more advanced writing
styles.
