2. Kitchen Appliances
➔ In any household kitchen appliances are applied our everyday lives. Kitchen
appliances can do various things such as, storing and cooking food.
◆ Storing Food: Refrigerators store food to keep it fresh and cool for items
that need to be chilled.
◆ Cooking Food: Ovens, fryers, stoves, etc are all appliances that
technologically appetize our food for enhanced tastes.
➔ Kitchen appliances are deemed as a form of technology that is female friendly.
Women, by traditional standards, are expected to use these machines to feed the
stomachs of their husbands(Lerman, 1997). 88
3. Medical Technology
➔ Technology in the medical field has been a crucial part in improving the practice
of medicine. Medical technological is used in areas such as pharmaceuticals,
information technology, and for medical equipment involved in surgeries(Cocchi,
Narisi, & White, 2011).
➔ Technology saves peoples live everyday by organ transplants, epipens,
surgeries, etc. Technologies also help cure, diagnose, and prevent diseases that
may be deadly.
➔ Recent research has shown a new type of robot may be able to perform
surgeries.76
4. Artificial Intelligence
➔ It is said that artificial intelligence may come in a form of a robot that assists
intelligent people through computer controlling programs. These artificial
intelligent robots are made for the purpose of discovery, reasoning, and to define
meaning from past human experiences(Copeland, B., 2018).
➔ Artificial intelligent robots still cannot successfully feel emotions as humans do,
but learning and perception are successful in robots because they are
manufactured in a way that allows them to recognize details in a different way
than human do.84
5. Cellular/ Mobile Devices
➔ A cell phone is used for communicating and entertainment. Talking, shopping,
and banking are all actions that can be performed on this piece of technology.
➔ It is said that a new trend is becoming dependent on technology creating
databases to further our knowledge over any topic that can possibly be thought
of. (Clark, 2014)
➔ Another time where a cell phone is important is when there is an emergency and
someone needs to be immediately notified.75
6. The Internet Itself
➔ The internet is used as a form of research and to engage in the world around
them.
◆ Research: Children now of days are given laptops and tablets to engage in
the online world. They use these devices to find information at the palms of
their hands rather than looking for hours through an endless amount of
textbooks to possibly find information.
◆ Engagement: Scholarly articles communicate to the people by explaining
points of views, proven theories, and mainly serves as a justification to
facts. Those looking to further their education read and research
information constantly to become more knowledgeable about the world
around them.103
7. Digital and Social Media
➔ Digital media
◆ Cameras and Laptops plays into the role of digital media. Both of these devices
allow our brains to reshape the way it thinks(Siemens, 2014, p. 1).
◆ Video games are a form of digital media that influences all age groups. A typical
user plays a video game to augment themselves from reality.
➔ Social Media
◆ Most commonly used form of communication through technology in this day by
society. Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat are all forms of social media that is now
used in universities and jobs as a form of formal communication. Even though
social media(s) are positive in their own ways, they can be negative because of
cyberbullies and others who sexualize society.114
8. Military and War Simulations
➔ Military simulations are relevant to the military because it allows them to successfully test
out advancements in technology such as the tanks they use or artillery with a degree of
realism when testing war strategies(Wray & Laird, 2003).
➔ War/ video games, are referred to as war diversions, which are recreations where
speculations of fighting can be tested and refined without the requirement for real threats.
➔ With this technology available, it helps the government decrease any negative thoughts
and hostilities. 80
9. Automobiles
➔ Automobile have come to be the main form of transportation in recent society.
Throughout the 1950s, working-class families were able to buy cars, this reduces
the time it takes to get from point a to point b(Dines, G., & Humez, J. M., 2018, p.
23). Policies undermined transit systems, which in turn made purchasing an
automobile a necessity.
➔ Automobiles may now be seen as a source of independence and freedom, while
before it was seen as a luxury. This is being said because owning a car allows
people to go around as they please without relying on others to take them from
place to place. Automobiles have been the makeup to a successful part of this
growing society.118
