The Mystery of the Video Tape

FADE IN:
EXT – Forest – Day
Michael Fisher, 31, is the greatest detective who prides himself on
his work and pushes to solve every mystery as good as his last, and
feels crime is the worst aspect of life.
Michael:
Crime... It’s everywhere.
(Establishing shot of the forest, showing the scale and reach of the
crime, then cut to different medium shots of areas with Michael
searching for clues.)
Michael searches different areas, hoping to solve the variety of
cases he finds himself on.
Michael:
It spreads around the world like a cold,
spreading through and encapsulating the street,
you always have to be wary; you always have
to be careful. That is why; I’m always on the
lookout, I always seek to save the lives of
the people who deserve it, and serve justice
to the people who need it. But sometimes the
victim and the bad guy can be blurred,
and the case I’m about to tell you...
Is one such example.
CUT TO:
EXT – Forest – Morning
(Cut to different shots of the murder victim on the ground, with the
“newbie” taking a selfie next to the victim. Cut to medium shot of
Ben, another detective who has no time for people below him.)
Ben and the “newbie” are gathered around a recent crime, a victim
with blows to the head, the two are unsure of what has happened, and
wait for Michael to give his analysis.
Ben:
Would you cut that out?!
(Cut to “newbie” moving away from the victim, then cut to wide shot
of Michael with the sun shining on him, showing the power he holds.)
Newbie:
Hear comes Michael.
Michael then walks up to the scene of the crime and faces Ben, with
a curious look, while keeping one eye on the crime.
Michael:
So, what do we suspect?
Ben:
Murder, but we’re not sure why.
(Zoom in on Michael, and then zoom out showing the quick response to
Ben’s answer. Cut to medium shot of Michael approaching the crime,
then zoom in, showing his intense thinking. Cut to first-person shot
of Michael then turning to the footsteps.)
Michael:
Well, let’s look at the footsteps first.
They appear to be going at a pretty fast rate,
suggesting the victim was escaping from the
murderer. The murderer’s footsteps are more
spaced out, suggesting he was catching up to
the victim.
He then stops, and notices the victim’s footsteps stop and then
appear to want to turn around.
Michael:
Look at that.
Ben:
Look at what?
Michael:
The footsteps of the victim, at one point
they stop, suggesting he dropped something,
and it must have been important as he kept
running, suggesting he didn’t want to reveal
he dropped it to the murderer.
(Throughout Michael’s analysis, there are images of the victim
running away from the murderer. At first it is a wide shot, showing
the gap he had on the victim. Then cut to a close-up of the victim
showing the panic and fear he has of the events occurring. Medium
shot of the murderer, with a hood covering his face, showing the
confidence he has on catching the victim.)
(After Michael’s sentence, cut to the “newbie” – slightly distanced
medium shot showing his inexperience.)
Newbie:
Over here!
Michael and Ben then run over, with Michael grabbing the equipment –
a video tape, which has writing which has been covered over.
(As Michael studies the videotape, dual shot the two shots together
of the videotape on the floor, suggesting the two may be connected.)
Michael:
See, I told you it was important.
And it must have been important,
as the victim has multiple shots to the
head, suggesting the murderer was very
frustrated, and is why he killed him.
Ben:
So, what do you think?
Michael:
Right now I’m still a bit unsure, but
once we learn what this video tape relates
to, we’ll know what to do. Newbie, catch!
(Cut to “newbie” he fails to catch the videotape.)
Michael:
We’ll work on that. Anyway, take that
to CCPD and we’ll work on it later.
Ben:
Why later?
Michael:
Because Ben, we’ve got an awards ceremony to
attend!
(Zoom in to show the happiness on his face, then cut to a close-up
of Ben with an exasperated look on his face, showing the lack of
care towards the awards ceremony, then zoom out to a wide shot of
them all moving away, showing their importance to the narrative.)
