1. Final
Cut
Express
This program was probably the most important tool we had to use during the making of
our sequence as it was the basis of our editing. While using it I learnt many things like
altering levels of audio and light, changing the colour of the picture, cropping the clips
to make the continuity flow etc. Before we started our film we were set a number of
small projects to help us learn how to edit and use the program properly, this was vital
and very helpful as I had had no prior experience of editing with Final Cut Express or
even with a Mac computer and without the practice made before the start of the project
the film would not have been made as well as it was.
2. Canon EOS 600D-SLR Camera
This piece of equipment was just as important as Final Cut Express in the making of our
opening sequence. We used this model of camera to film everything seen in the final
project. It also recorded most of the diegetic sound heard in the final project. It was a
very useful piece of equipment as it was lightweight and portable, could be fitted to a
tripod, filmed in 1080p and had a built in microphone to record audio. Just like with
Final Cut Express, we were set many small projects before the initiation of our project.
This helped us learn the many techniques of camerawork and also all of the aspects using
the camera like manual zoom, focus and light exposure. Through practicing using all the
techniques of the camera we were able to give our project a unique look and feel.
3. Wix
Website Builder
This website was very important on the coursework side of our project. This website was very
useful, as we were all inexperienced in website building this was the perfect site, it had
preset options for everything we need such as design, layout, buttons etc. There was
nothing technical or difficult about using this website. Another reason it was so useful
was that it allowed us to embed things we had uploaded to other websites like such as
Prezi, YouTube and Bubbl.us . The easy to use controls were also helpful in adding our
own unique design to the website that fit the mood of our film and how we wanted it to
look. The best part about this website is that it was free!
4. GarageBand
In my opinion, this programme was the most complicated of all the tools we used during the
project but it was also a vital element. None of our group had used garage band before
the project and so had difficulty getting to know how to use it. It was very complicated
and required a certain level of musical theory knowledge which none of us had, to get
around this we got help from one of our friends who had used the programme before and
could tell us how to use it and what the terminology meant. In the final project, our
original music can be heard towards the end during the flashbacks, it created a sense of
suspense and anxiety that wouldn’t have been felt without it.
