1. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing the product?
The camera that we used for all of the filming was a Panasonic HD camera
combined with your standard tripod. This proved to be a very versatile
and capable piece of equipment as it allowed for a 42x zoom, which was
always going more than enough for our production. The tripod, which we
used, could be raised and lowered to our discretion. This is a function that
we toyed with through out the filming process. Even though these shots
didn’t make it to the final cut it was nice to have the option available to us.
From our experience with this camera it had no weaknesses that rose up
for us over the course of filming.
The only problem that we encountered was on the first day of filming
when we attempted to use a track and dolly with the Panasonic HD camera
mounted on top. This bit of equipment turned out to not be the kind of
thing that would be for us as it was simply too big and took too long to
build at the shooting site. With us having to walk to and from our shooting
locations this made it very heavy and arduous work to carry. Another
problem we faced with it was when we came to build it; the small bolts
that needed to be connected never can with instructions on how to erect it.
To counter this problem instead of using the track and dolly for the high
and low angle shots we used the tripod which was mentioned in the
previous paragraph by simply raising and lowering to our needs. On the
other hand however, we where able to see the uses that it would have and
even though we never truly used we recognized that for some people it
mat prove to be an invaluable piece of equipment.
The only new piece of new equipment we used was the track and dolly,
which was the only thing that proved to cause problems, which where
mentioned in the previous paragraph.
While creating this movie we learnt a lot about two different editing
software’s: iMovie and Final Cut Express HD. In the long run F.C.E was the
better software although it was more complicated. Once we got a hang of it
we were creating quite clever cuts. The fact we could reduce the
brightness to make the time of day seem useful helped a lot as we filmed in
the middle of the day although we wanted to be set early morning.
We used garage band to create most of the backing track like the chase
scene at the end of the sequence. This piece of software was a very simple
and easy piece to use as all that it incorporated was to drag and drop the
desired sound into the area where it was to be put into the track then all
that needed to be done was to set it into the right timing. The only problem
2. was that some of the sounds that we wanted were not in the garage band
selection.
The software that we used for the evaluation was the online program
called wix which helps us to easily make a website setup very quick and
easily with options to add media aspects like video, images and use Google
maps for the contact us page. The way in which you edit the text and
layout of the page could be edited proved very efficient in time so that we
would be able to quickly get that done and have tie to make the decisions
on the layout of the website.
