1. Hours For Courses
2015 Waihi College
The school started relatively early for local high
schools. The intent was to give maximum time
prior to NCEA exam leave.
There are 182 days for the seniors…
• Term One (10 weeks) Less… week one,
Waitangi day, Athletics Day, Swimming, Good
Friday. Approx 41 days.
• Term Two (11 weeks) Less… Anzac, Teacher
Only Day, Queens Birthday, Parent Teacher
Interview day. Approx 51 days.
• Term Three (10 Weeks) less… TOD, Senior
Exam 4 days. Approx 45 days.
• Term Four (9 weeks). Aka 3 Weeks and 4
Days prior to Exams. Less Labour day.
Approx 18 days.
Total of 41+51+45+18=155. Each line will
therefore be 155 x 4/6 = 103 lessons (which is
exactly 115 hours as Period One is 90 mins)

2. With 155 days of instruction (that’s out of 164)
aka 103 lessons or 115 hours.
This is pretty atypical for modern NZ school.
