Introduction
 Partition of India and Pakistan.
 Displacement of 12.5 million people
and more then one 1 million people
lost there life.
 India emerged as a secular nation with
a Hindu majority population and a
large Muslim minority, while Pakistan
emerged also as a secular Nation with
an overwhelming Muslim majority.
 Later became a Islamic republic state.
Trade
 Before 1965 war trade between India and
Pakistan was more then 1.6%.
 After 1965 and 71 war the trade was only 0.6%.
 In 1990 before Kargil war took place our trade
was $88 million.
 Pakistani artists, patients have been freely
coming to India.
 Trade in 2012-13 was us $ 2.6 billion.
 Export: cotton, organic chemical, vegetables,
plastic, coffee, tea etc.
 Import: copper and copper articles, fruits and
nuts, salt, mineral fuels, rubber and wool.
Trade Agreements
 With a view to build confidence of the
business community on both sides,
representatives of various trade regulatory
bodies of India held meetings over 2011-12.
 with representatives of leading chambers of
commerce and industry of Pakistan to discuss
matters pertaining to trade regulations,
standards, labeling and marking
requirements.
 Three agreements, Customs Cooperation
Agreement, Mutual Recognition Agreement
and Redressal of Trade Grievances
Agreement, were signed during the
Commerce Secretaries' talks on September
21, 2012.
Conclusion
 The relation between India and Pakistan have in a state of constant flux,
even there independent. They have fought 4 wars. Military confratatation
between them been the reason for other development and economic issues
being pushed in to the background. Needless to say South Asian countries
constitute over 40% of the global poverty and need enormous resources and
efforts to eliminate the scourge of poverty but unprecedented defense
expenditure has prevented both India and Pakistan to do that. Security
issues continued to remain the pivot around which countries of the region
have shaped their national and regional policies. The Indo-Pak relationship
has not reached a stage yet where the economic logic takes precedence
over the political differences between the two countries. The existing
barriers that restrict the movement of people, goods and investment within
and across the region, need to be dismantled to unlock the development
potential of South Asia.

Kashmir Dispute
 South Asia is undoubtedly one of the
most war prone regions in the world
with two neighbors engaged in
unresolved conflict over Kashmir.
 Kashmir have created bitterness
between India and Pakistan more then
anything else.
 The geographical revelry is rooted in the
1947 partition of the subcontinent.
 According to two nation theory Kashmir
is “unfinished agenda of partition”.
Terrorism
• Locking in the geographical reality of an unstable South
Asia, India continues to reel under an intense onslaught of
externally designed jihadi terrorism.
• Strongly supported by Pakistani state as proxy force against
India.
• Goals: annexation of Kashmir to Pakistan and islamization
of India – secondary (but increasing in significance).
