 The NEP aims:

5. WHEN WAS IT APPROVED?
 the new education policy was
approved by the Union Cabinet at
a meeting presided by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on
Wednesday, 29th July 2020.

7. HIGHLIGHTS OF NEP
 All higher education institutes excluding the
medical and law colleges will be governed by a
single regulator.
 MPhil courses will now be terminated.
 Board exams will now be more application and
knowledge-based.
 Both the public and private higher education
institutes will be governed under the same norms.

8.  To promote and give more emphasis on the
regional language/mother-tongue, instruction
medium up to class 5 will be in local/home
languages.
 All entrance exams for higher education institutes
and universities will be held commonly.

9.  School curriculum to focus more on core
concepts.
 Vocational education will also be imparted from
6th grade onwards.
 10+2 study culture discontinue and new structure
of 5+3+3+4 will be followed, subjecting to the
respective age group of 3-8, 8-11, 11-14 and 14-
18 years.

10. IMPORTANT REFORMS IN
THE NEP 2020
10+2 System has been dropped .
10+ 2 has been changed to 5+3+3+4 system of
schooling

11. 5+3+3+4 system has been
divided into 4 stages:

12. FOUNDATIONAL STAGE
 Its a duration of 5 years.
 It includes 3 years of pre-primary and Grade 1
and Grade 2.
 Age group is 3 to 8 years.

13. PREPARATORY STAGE
 Its a duration of 3 years.
 It Includes Class 3 , Class 4 and Class 5.
 Age group is 8 to 11 years.

14. MIDDLE SCHOOL STAGE
 Its a duration of 3 years.
 It includes Class 6 , Class 7 and Class 8.
 Age group is 11 to 14 years.

15. HIGH SCHOOL STAGE
 Its a duration of 4 years.
 It includes Class 9,Class 10 , Class 11 and
Class 12.
 Age group is 14 to 18 years.
 It is divided into two phases.

17. 4 YEARS BACHELOR
DEGREE COURSE
 On the exit on doing 1 year course, student will
get a “Course Certificate” .
 On the exit on doing 2 year course, student will
get a “Diploma Certificate” .
 On the exit on doing 3 year course, student will
get a “Bachelor Degree Certificate” .
 On the completion of full Course, he will get a
“Bachelor Degree along with a Research
Certificate”.
