This document discusses different types of hauling equipment used to transport materials like earth, aggregate, rock, and coal. It describes trucks, tractors, dump trucks, dumpers, trailers, elevators, and conveyors. Specific types of trucks are defined, including rear dump trucks, bottom-dump trucks, and side-dump trucks. The advantages and disadvantages of using small and large trucks are provided. Crawler and wheeled tractors are compared. Trailers are described as equipment used to transport heavy machinery over long distances. Loading, positioning, securing and unloading procedures for trailers are outlined. Finally, conveyors are introduced as equipment used to move material and people over fixed paths between points.
2. Hauling units transport the earth, aggregate, rock, ore, coal and other materials. Hauling units may be road vehicles or rail-road
locomotives.
TYPES OF HAULING EQUIPMENT

• Elevator & conveyors
DEFINATION
3. A truck or lorry is a motor vehicle designed to transport cargo. Trucks vary greatly in size, power, and configuration; smaller varieties may be
mechanically similar to some automobiles. Commercial trucks can be very large and powerful, and may be configured to mount specialized
equipment, such as in the case of fire trucks and concrete mixers and suction excavators.
TRUCKS
5. ADVANTAGES
1. Maneuvering flexibility,
which may be an
advantage on restricted
worksites.
2. Speed, can achieve higher
haul and return speeds
3. Production, little impact if
one truck breaks down
4. Balance of fleet, easy to
match number of trucks to
to excavatorproduction.
Small Trucks
1.Number, fewer needed for a
given output.
2.Drivers required, fewer
needed for a given output.
3. Loading advantage, larger
target for the excavator
bucket.
4. Positioning time, frequency
of spotting trucks is
reduced.
Large Trucks
6. DISADVANTAGES
1.Number, more trucks
increases operational dangers
dangers in the pit, along the
the haul road and atthe
dump.
2.More drivers required, more
needed for a given output
3. Loading impediment, small
target for excavator bucket.
4. Positioning time, total
spotting time greater because
because of the number
required.
Small Trucks
1.Cost of truck time at loading
is greater, especially with
small excavators.
2.Loads heavier, possible
damage to the haul roads
thus increasing the cost of
maintenance ofthe haul
road.
3.Size, may not be permitted
to haul on highways.
Large Trucks
8. Crawler type Wheeled type
1. Slow speed 1. Greater speed
2. More compact and powerful and can handle heavier
jobs
2. Con handle only lighterjobs
3. costly 3. cheaper
4. Cost of operation and maintenance is high 4. Operational and maintenance cost is less
5. Stick control for steering 5. Wheel steering control
6. Moves on rough roadsonly 6. Moves on rough as well as good roads
7. Used for short distances 7.Used for longer distances
8. Requires skillful operation, maintenance and
repairs
8. Lesser skills required for operations, maintenance and
repairs

9. Trailers are used to transport heavy
construction equipment such as
cranes, dozers, or any equipment not
designed for long distance movement
by their own power. Also use the
trailers to haul long items such as
pipes or lumber, or packaged items
such as landing mats or bagged
cement.
TRAILERS
10. OPERATION
LOADING
For maximum efficiency, load trailers as close as possible to their rated loading
capacity. When loading, always station a spotter on the trailer to direct the
equipment operator and to keep the machine centered on the ramps and trailer.
POSITIONING AND SECURING
After positioning the equipment on the trailer bed, block and chock it and chain
it to the trailer. Properly distribute the weight of large equipment on the
trailer. Trailers have their load-weight centering position marked.
UNLOADING
Unload heavy equipment slowly to prevent damage to the trailer or the
equipment. Always use ramps to load and unload.

material & men over a fixed path
between specific points . these are used
for short as well as long distances these
are especially useful in application
involving the transportation of heavy and
bulky materials.
