3. INTRODUCTION
Panauti Hydropower Project is the third hydropower
project of Nepal.
Located in Roshi river, Khopasi(Kavre), 35 km east of
Kathmandu.
Commissioned during 1960-1965 by the joint effort of
USSR and Nepal government.
An installed capacity of 2.4 MW.
4. OBJECTIVE
Study and prepare the 3-D model for the powerhouse and
switchyard of Panauti Hydropower Project.
Sub-objectives:
To study the placement of general equipments inside.
To know the surveying techniques, fieldwork, etc.
7. Scale:
The scale is reduced in the ratio 1:55 to include
powerhouse and switchyard in the plywood of 1*1 m
which further includes automatically staff house.
8. DIMENSIONS IN REDUCED SCALE:
S.N. Dimension Of : Dimension(cm)
1 Length of powerhouse 45
2 Breadth of powerhouse 33.5
3 Height of wall towards switchyard (powerhouse) 13
4 Height of wall towards river (powerhouse) 15
5 Height difference between powerhouse and
switchyard from base to base
17.7
6 Length of switchyard 49.8
7 Breadth of the switchyard 20.7
8 Height of fence of switchyard 4.5
9 Height of the highest tower inside switchyard 12.9
10. STEPS USED TO PREPARE 3-D MODEL
-wood works by rip saw and chisels
- cutting the thermo coal by knife
-representing the wire by house wire
-representing insulators by buttons
-potential transformer and oil circuit breaker by
aluminium plate
-fence of switchyard by net
-towers by net and wood
- transformers, turbines and generators by thermo coal

13. DIFFICULTIES ON FIELDWORK
Crossing the fence of switchyard was prohibited.
Restriction of close observation of equipments and
machinery of the powerhouse.
Cost overrun compared to forecasted.
14. RESULTS
Survey and Measurement of power house and switchyard
2-D model of powerhouse and switchyard in AutoCAD
3-D model (scale 1:55) with topography and details like
transformer, oil circuit breaker, isolator etc of switchyard
and powerhouse.

16. BENEFITS
We learned the measuring techniques.
Able to develop teamwork spirit and communication
skills.
Learn the technique to make a 3-D model
Knowledge of proper execution and presentation
Knowledge about some of the equipments inside
powerhouse and switchyard.
17. CONCLUSION:
We came to know about the team work. We prepared
2-dimensional model(Top view) of our project site.
We got the theoretical and practical knowledge from
this project.
