Welcome to a Virtual Tour of
Udgam School For Children
Since 1965
Our School- Vision and
Tradition
The name ‘Udgam’ means ‘origin’. The school is
managed with the aim to fulfill the need to provide
top notch education in the city. Over the years, we
have maintained the legacy and have left no stone
unturned in maintaining the academic excellence
of our institute.
Also, at the same time, we have evolved as a
school and kept pace with the changing trends in
the world of education, without however, deviating
from our motto-‘Quality Education First’.
True to our name, we are the place of ‘origin’ for
the budding glocal citizens of tomorrow.

Udgam
School –
Location and
Infrastructure
We are a 53 years old school affiliated to CBSE Board, therefore,
investment, infrastructure and resource planning are commensurate with
the Board requirement and our mission to provide:
Infrastructure
Academics
Activities
Sports & Games, of world-class quality and aesthetics.
To achieve these objectives, we have developed a campus, that is
conducive to our mission.
Udgam – The
Neighbourhood School
• Studies have shown that long journeys to
school have a negative impact on
students’ health and on their education
achievement levels. Realising the
importance of the travel time and
distance, we have never considered
moving either of our campuses to the
outskirts of the city, even though the
land price is considerably cheaper in
those areas.
• Both the premises of Udgam School
(Thaltej and Jodhpur) are very suitably
located within the city limits and midst of
densely populated areas. This prevents
unnecessary wastage of time for our
students in commuting to and fro school.
As a result, they come to school fresh
and can be attentive in class. More than
90% of our students stay within the 7
Kms. radius. We give preference of
admission based on the distance and
hence fulfilling the concept of
“neighbourhood school”.
This Google map
shows that most
of our students
live in the vicinity
Safety and Security
We have dedicated security staff diligently monitoring both the
premises of Udgam throughout the day and keeping a record of the
people coming in and going out. Furthermore, we have trained ayahs
and staff taking care of the needs of our students and staff. We
cannot take a chance with the security of our students or employees.
At the both the campuses these guard manage the traffic to ensure
that there is no congestion during the peak hours. As many parents
self-drive to pick / drop their children – they need services of guards
to guide them for proper parking.
Security Guards on Duty
CCTV Surveillance
We have CCTV surveillance in all the
classrooms and corridors, so that we can
keep a constant check on our students and
teachers. This helps in cutting down of
bullying and other untoward behaviour
within the school building.
We give CCTV viewing privileges and TVs
to Vice Principals and Principal for their
respective section.
Fire Safety
To prevent any fire disaster within the school
building, we have installed government approved
standardised fire extinguishers as per CBSE norms.
Fire alarms and extinguishers are deemed as
necessary investment as they will save many lives, in
case of any fire accidents. All our fire equipment are
strategically placed and are well-maintained. We train
our staff to operate these facilities in times of
necessity. We are responsible for our students’ safety
and we cannot afford to overlook this important
aspect.
Neat, Clean and Hygienic School Compound
We provide a welcoming environment for our students
at school. Keeping in mind the impact of school
building in education, we strive to make it as
comfortable, engaging and secure as possible. Our
school has appointed separate housekeeping staff who
make sure that school building is neat and tidy at all
times. Even though this has a cost associated, we can’t
ignore the importance of a clean and hygienic school
environment. All our staff are trained, very polite and
eager to execute their duties.
Both our campuses are dust free campus.
We do not have bare ground in the premises.
Thaltej Campus has lush green lawns.
It was indeed a moment of great prestige
for the entire Udgam school,
when Ahmedabad Mirror featured
our school as the cleanest one in the city.

AC Classrooms: Luxury
or Necessity?
We have provided AC classroom after years of deliberation and research.
We decided to install AC in our classrooms for two reasons
1) The unbearable temperature during the summer season: The extreme
heat makes the students and teachers very uncomfortable and as a result
the teaching and learning process gets affected.
2) Soundproofing: Our AC classrooms are all sound proof. In schools, where
teachers teach orally, it's imperative that the background noise is
minimised. With AC classrooms, that demand shut windows and doors all
the time, we have been successful in removing the background noise. This
also prevents our teachers from the very common issue of 'teachers'
laryngitis’.
Every classroom has most modern cassette AC of Toshiba brand. Cassette
Indoor Units gives air circulation evenly across the classrooms. The
temperature is adjusted according to climatic conditions, where the
children and the teacher do not feel uncomfortable. These ACs are invertor
type, therefore are power efficient. Also, the classrooms have occupancy
sensors, which means that if there’s no one present in the classroom, the
AC automatically stops, which helps in saving electricity. According to
industry source, we have one of the least electricity consumption per child
amongst various AC schools in India.
Smart Classes for Smart Learners
Smart Board technology enriches the
teaching -learning experience in the
classroom. Teachers can make any lesson
fun and interactive with the help of a
smartboard. The visual elements projected
through the smartboards, help the students
to retain their lessons better. Students can
view diagrams, charts, videos and more,
right on the huge screen in front of them.
We decided to go ahead with them because
we wanted to bring education to life for our
students. We have bought the boards from
the pioneers of smartboards- the
“SMARTboard” company. Along with the
same the projectors are from Sony and that
is the standard followed across all our
classrooms in both the schools. Each class
has speakers to give the students a good
audio experience.
Research shows that using smart
technology in the classroom has proven
success rates; it raises test scores,
improves students’ retention of lesson,
enhances literacy, boosts attentiveness,
and increases comprehension skills of the
students, to name a few. So, smartboards
are just one of the many ways how we
achieve and maintain high academic results
from our students.
To complement the excellent hardware, we
have bought the software to show on the
Smartboards from ‘Extramarks’ which is a
11-year-old company providing software to
8000 schools across the country.
Here’s how our Classrooms Look
Other
Features of
Our
Classrooms
Doors and Windows of the Building:
• All the windows in the building are made of German UPVC frames with Double Glass Unit
with toughened and tinted glass. These make the classrooms soundproof, safe and
energy saving, as less heat is transmitted. The doors are fitted with air tight aluminum
frame, toughened glass and double laminated sheet. Therefore, our sturdy windows and
doors help in:
• Saving electrical power for A.C and high carbon credit
• Improves student concentration inside classroom
• Improves understanding of oral explanation
• Teachers are able to maintain normal / low tone while teaching or communicating with
the students which increases the teachers stamina
Ceilings :
• All our classrooms have special German standard false ceiling, which helps in:
• Absorbing Echoes to @ 34 dB sound level and reducing reverberation.
• Ensuring complete absence of noise in class rooms & there by ensuring more
concentration of children in sessions
• Insulation to heat and there by increase the AC effectiveness
• There are some aesthetic improvements also with the false ceiling however the benefits
of sound and heat insulation are much more than any other benefit. With the help of
these ceiling we could install power efficient LED lighting.
Lighting :
• We have replaced traditional tube lights with power saving LED lights fitting. They
minimise the power usage and allows the classrooms to be sufficiently lit. The LED
lighting placed at a lower height increases the lumens and ensures clear visibility, along
with cutting electric costs.
Well-Stocked Library
In our endeavor to create a knowledge driven society, we
have a very well-stocked library. We can’t deny the
integral role of a library in the school. Each student has
equitable access to our library resources. This eliminates
their need for taking any additional membership at a
library outside the school. Our library has a good number
of books for all age-groups. It has a good blend of Indian
as well as foreign books. We keep updating our stock
periodically to keep pace with the student-teacher
preferences. We encourage our students to develop the
healthy habit of reading as it fosters their intellectual,
aesthetic and cultural growth. There is a seating space of
100 students at a time in Thaltej. Total, we have over
40,000 books across two libraries.
Our School
Labs
Udgam school takes pride in having adequate laboratories for our students. Our computer lab, math
lab, physics lab, bio lab and chemistry lab allow our students to get a first-hand learning experience
and retaining the knowledge for a longer time. Through the school lab experience, we familiarise our
students with the scientific advances and developments.
We, at Udgam school aim at developing scientific interests among our students, who are the
future of our nation.
• Special features of computer Labs:
• One is to one computer to student ratio – each child gets his own computer for
his or her use.
• Each computer is state of the art and the school has a policy to replace computer
every 5 to 6 years.
• They are all connected with LAN and a firewall to ensure they can have restricted
internet access if required while training.
• Even computer labs have projectors for imparting education.
We offer Computer lessons from Jr. Kg onwards. We have the Waterford software for Jr
kg. to Grade 2. Waterford gives a unique learning experience to the children. We
introduced this to our students as it gives research driven results and has proven to
promote academic success of the learners.

Multipurpose School
Auditorium
Our school multi-purpose hall with 400
people seating capacity is one of the
most important parts of school building.
It is used for all types of formal assembly,
lectures, award ceremonies, dramatic
plays, musical theatre, performances,
orientation programs for parents and so
on. These varied events place a range of
demands on the multi-purpose hall,
mainly proper acoustics, seating
arrangements, lights, mic and air
conditioning. For all events, it is essential
that everyone in the room hear properly,
see clearly and enjoy everything that is
presented. This is the purpose of our
acoustically designed hall.
Lifts inside the School
Premises
We have lift facility inside both the campuses.
This helps our staff and children in carrying the
heavy loads of books and other study materials.
Lifts are very advantageous for sick or injured
students and staff too. We employ disabled
people as lift attendants. In total, we have 3 lifts
in both the campuses. Thaltej has Schiendler lift
and Jodhpur has Mitsubishi lift.
Our School Toilets
Boys’ toilets are provided with special waterless and odourless Urinals which save water and at the same time, keep the toilets
clean and stench free.
Girls’ toilets are neat and tidy, eliminating any chance of infection. Also, they are equipped with sanitary pad dispensing and
disposing units - Sanipod, which help our girl students to stay comfortable and maintain hygiene. We have tied up with a
professional agency to hygienically dispose the used Sanitary Napkins.
We also have hand wash soap dispensers installed in all wash basins. The toilets in Thaltej building for boys and girls are in two
separate corners which gives additional safety to children.
One of the most overlooked concepts in schools is about hand drying. Dry hands are 1000 times safer than damp hands.
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20090914005155/en/Dry-Hands-1000-Times-Safer-Damp-Hands At Udgam School
Thaltej branch, we have cutting edge HEPA compliant Dyson Hand dryers which dry hands in 10-12 seconds.
We have renovated about 90% of our toilets in both the schools and have made them according to modern toilet requirements and standards.
The flooring and walls are done with glossy vitrified tiles, which are very hygienic and easy to clean. The lavatories are environment friendly,
which low water consumption per flush. We have auto shut off flush with ½ flush facility. Auto shutoff taps are also installed in toilets, to save
water.
Udgam
School App-
Connect
• Our Connect app has been very popular ever since its launch in June 2016.
There are about 5500 parents using the App regularly. The total screen views
are a staggering 13 million. Almost 100% parents have successfully
downloaded the app. The graph shows the yearly increase of usage of the
mobile App:
Connect App
Features:
Commonly, parents are required to visit their child's school to
keep track of their progress; however, that often gets difficult due
to lack of time in today's busy lifestyle, especially when mostly
both the parents are working. Parents often fail to visit, as there is
professional pressure and work stress, making it tough for them
to concentrate on their child's growth at the school fully. Our
Udgam connect app comes to the rescue of the parents and
makes it hassle free for them. The app is fully functional and has
all the essential features which help the parents to:
• Keep a tab on the daily work done in school
• Check the calendar and timetable
• Apply for leaves
• Read the circular
• Check the result
• Access the various practice sheets
• Contact the teachers and VPs.
School Portal
Apart from the most useful features available on the App, we have a few more essential
features on the portal , which is accessible only from the computer. Portal has updates like
detailed information about the Activities (how many activity done in the class), whether
that student has participated or not, if yes then details about the award, if applicable. Log in
to the portal using the student ID and explore the various features.
Teachers’ App – Mentor
We also have another App -Udgam Mentors for our teachers. Our Mentor app is very user-friendly and allows
the teachers to minimize their paper work. It also helps the teachers to plan ahead and stay organized. They
can easily respond to parent queries, upload worksheets and quick notes to parents.
Below are the features of the Mentors’ App that makes our teachers’ life easy. Teachers can easily upload
circulars on the App
• Teachers can approve or reject leaves from the app and send comments about leave from the App too
• The entire attendance of each student per class can be maintained and tracked using the Mentor’s App
• Teachers can keep a record of their observation of each child. This helps in tracking the progress of each child
• Record of Late coming students are maintained using the App
• Teachers can create class wise PTM schedule using the App and notify the parents about the same
• Pictures are easily uploaded using the App of each activity or any special school event
• The teachers can quickly upload information on the daily work done
• They can send feedback to parent or respond to their comments
Our Channels of
Communication
At Udgam School, we value communication between the
school and parents. Apart from the app, every teacher and
administrative staff of the school has individual email
address. The teachers use industry leading email service of
Gmail which is configured in Microsoft Outlook on their
laptops.
We send emails to parents with important news, updates
and articles. We have subscribed to mass emailing software
to send emails to all parents quickly and in such a manner
that it doesn’t end up in the spam box.
We regularly send weekly attendance record of each
student to the parents through which they can track the
attendance record of the student and compare it against
the respective class and section. It has helped to improve
attendance ratio for the entire school. This has
substantially increased the attendance ratio among our
students. Our Vice Principals regularly follow up with the
parents of the students who don’t attend school regularly.
Surveys and Opinions
The school management involves all stakeholders in the decision-
making process. Major decisions are taken by involving various
heads of the organisation and after the decision is taken the
teachers, parents and if possible, students are involved in
determining whether the decision achieved its purpose. Before
taking an important decision like eliminating the school diary and
introducing the App, we did an extensive survey of the parent's
choice.
Since we need to efficiently collect the opinion we use online
platform of “Survey Monkey” to conduct surveys as an when
needed.
In the surveys , our parents are very satisfied with the features and
standards of the school. After analysing survey results, we make
necessary modifications in our modus operandi.
We give a platform to the parents to voice their opinion. Like the
last 4 years, this year too, we conducted a parent feedback survey.
We base our decision for improvement of our services based on
the findings of such surveys.
Opinion on
Fees
Regulation
Ever since the fees regulation legislation had come into force we
were wondering how we can reduce our costs. In a school with
5,000 students there are bound to be groups of people who
would dissent to any decision. For a democratic approach
towards cost optimisation, we undertook extensive value
engineering survey a few months back.
In none of the 38 options given, there is a consensus towards
reduction in costs. Close to 1900 parents responded, still we are
unable to undertake any decisive action to curtail our services
and hence there is no scope of reduction of related expenditure.
Most of the responses showed more than 60% of parents would
want to continue the services, facilities and amenities – which
means that without dissatisfying a vast majority of parents, we
are unable to make a drastic reduction in costs.
Social
Media
Channels:
• We have active social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, Flickr,
YouTube and Twitter, where we showcase student achievements, post
regular updates about the school events and more. In fact, our Facebook
page is one of the most active ones other schools and we have been able to
achieve the same by posting relevant content which parents “like”.
• Over and above the normal posts and events updates – at times we do
Facebook live. This helps parents to view their child’s performance sitting in
the comfort of their home or from their busy schedule at work.
• We also put many parenting articles on social media and blogs to spread
awareness in the parent community at large whether or not studying in our
school. Several schools across the state are following our Facebook page and
emulating our activities. This brings up the overall education level of the
state.
School Magazine
Every month our students get a school magazine- ‘Udgam Matters’ for free that contains pieces of information about a wide range of
subjects, feature creative work of the students and much more. The school magazine is a valid book that informs the parents / students
and teachers more about the tradition, culture and activities of the school and also records the development of the school. They
encourage the students to read and write more. We do not publish any kind of advertisements and hence the children or the readers
are not influenced by any kind of marketing. It’s indeed a great platform for the students to showcase their drawings and other talents.
School magazines are for keeps and are a great treasure for the students.
All the medicines are dispensed free and so is the consultancy is also free. There are about 85 visits per day by students alone. Staff and
teachers are also given medicines if required. The treatment is also done for behavioural problems and certain issues which are only
curable in homeopathy. We have documented case studies which show that the child’s academics has improved after getting treated
with homeopathy.
We record the child’s visit in our software which keeps a record of the visit and also inform the parents in the mobile app so parents are
aware in case the child has got medical help at the school.
Newspaper in
Education:
Every student of our school , from primary to
secondary, is given a free copy of Times of India
NIE daily. Newspaper in Education is published by
the Bennett and Coleman & Co Ltd., – Monday to
Friday. It contains important news and lessons for
the students and helps in developing the precious
habit of newspaper reading, which, of course
further enhances their English skills. Students get
to know about current affairs, general knowledge
and happenings at various schools.
Passport to Excellence:
Every Udgamite from Jr. Kg to Grade 5, gets a small passport booklet that
records their progress and good deeds throughout the entire academic year.
This is one of our innovative ways to keep our students motivated in their
school life. There are stickers for various categories or classroom achievements
like reading independently, finishing lunch in time, improving in maths and
several more. The stickers encompass all categories of a child’s progress in
school. Every effort of our student is recognized and acknowledged. This gives
the students the necessary boost to improve upon themselves. In fact, parents
too can give stickers to their children in the same passport booklet in the
parents’ section. Passport to Excellence is our endeavour towards rewarding
the ‘behaviour’ of our students which indeed goes a long way in shaping their
future. So far, we have received very positive feedback from parents and
teachers about this project. Students have taken it in a very positive spirit.
Homeopathy Clinic:
Children often request early going due to complains of
stomach ache, headaches and injuries. It is inconvenient for
the parents to pick up their child early from the school and the
child also misses out on important classes. To give the child
immediate relief in school and to provide emergency care, we
have a running homeopathic clinic in the both the campuses
of our school. We believe that unless a child attends the
school regularly, we will not be able to help him or her to the
maximum. It is the fundamental requirement for every child to
attend school regularly to reap the benefits of quality
education. The doctor is well qualified and experienced to
ensure that students are appropriately monitored and
administered. A medical resource in unavoidable in school and
our clinic is open for all our students and teachers. We prefer
imparting education in a healthy environment and under no
circumstances, should our teachers and students suffer.
Environmental
Initiatives:
Education goes hand in hand by setting the right example and creating the
necessary awareness. Environment threats like water scarcity, plastic usage are
on the rise and, as a school, it’s our duty to contribute towards our planet, in
whatever way we can. Only this way can we raise a responsible and informed
generation. We believe in “teach by example” where we set an example in the
child’s mind that how we can be environmentally friendly.
As mentioned earlier (under the building section), we have adopted various ways
to save electricity and conserve energy. Further, we would like to inform you that
we have adopted a ‘go green’ approach.
• Rain Water Filtration System and Reverse Borewell:
With the underground water level depleting day-by-day, we have constructed a
borewell and installed a filtration system in such a way that 70 per cent of the
rainwater will be used to charge the aquifers. This prevents water logging inside
and outside both of our campuses.
• Going Paperless:
We use state-of art-technologies to implement some innovative ideas to protect the
environment. To minimize the use of paper, school has refrained from publishing
marketing brochures or leaflets. Most of the internal communication is done via e-
mails. The entire admission process is executed online. The parents are notified by
using the mobile app and other modes of electronic communications. Even the
leave note is sent on mobile and read by the teacher on the mobile. All the urgent
internal communication takes place using WhatsApp.
While we reduce use of paper in the school, we do not reduce the use to such an
extent that it impacts the quality of education. Hence, we do not compromise on
giving worksheets or any other educational material.
• “No” to Plastic:
We are taking the necessary steps to minimise plastic usage in the school and
encouraging our students and parents to do the same. Recently, we introduced
biodegradable nashta bowls for our pre-primary students.
Academics:
Our priority has been and will always continue to offer holistic education and ensuring well-being of our students. Our
teaching practices have evolved over the years to be extremely child friendly and are designed to suit the needs of the
curriculum. Our high academic standards and commitment to the quality education of every single child is quantified by
our excellent results in Board Exams over the years. Ever since the school started in 1965, we have successfully
maintained a track record of 100% pass rate. We hire the best teachers in town and continually conduct training sessions
and workshops to keep them updated with the evolving trends in the field of education. We believe in blending fun with
academics to reduce down the pressure on our students. That is why, our educators and supervisors plan a host of
activities to help our children retain their knowledge and instill the right values.
• Free Worksheets:
Each of our students get multiple worksheets from school. Using their laptops teachers themselves design the worksheets
to match the curriculum taught in the school. Worksheets enable the students to clear concepts in a short time and is
useful for the parents to revise too. Worksheets in Jodhpur school are printed on colour printer so engage the young
minds.
We also upload extra practice sheets on our portal regularly which the students can practice at home. All our worksheets
are very meticulously planned, which minimises the need to buy extra worksheets or workbooks, helping the parents to
save costs.
• Free Workshops:
Along with academics, we pay enough attention to the overall well-being of our students. We periodically conduct
important seminars for free like mental health counselling, career guidance and many others to create the necessary
awareness in association with eminent faculties and renowned organizations.
English is the most widely spoken language all over the world and the common international language in education. We
encourage all our staff and students to communicate in English. In fact, to make English more fun, we conduct free
voluntary workshops for our students and hone their overall English communication skills. However, we also give enough
importance to Hindi and Gujarati, the state language.
We believe in preparing our students for the future. Whatever field of education or career they choose eventually, we make
sure their concepts are clear from the very beginning. We encourage our students to participate in Olympiad exams and
LogiQids.
Detailed Assessment:
Teachers work hard in designing the lessons and articulating them. How a child interprets and
understands the same is, however, unpredictable. We respect the fact that all children are not the same
and some may not grasp whatever is taught to them.
So, what could we do to ensure that each child of our school benefits from our way of teaching?
The obvious answer is ‘assessment’.
But is it effective enough when done at the end of learning?
Actually, if the children are assessed during their learning phase, it’s easy for the students, parents and
the teachers to understand the performance.
When a teacher teaches without finding out who understands the concepts and who doesn’t, then
chances are higher that only the already-proficient students will succeed.
But what about the others who are lagging behind now but has immense potential to get better?
Last year, we have introduced DA ( Direct Assessment) for our students from grade 3 onwards. DA is a
set of assessment that goes hand in hand with the school curriculum and syllabus. We have tied up with
Educational Initiatives for the same. Educational Initiatives is associated with over 3000 school and more
than 3.5 lacs students take their benchmark tests. With the help of DA, the teachers and even the
students are able to gauge their level of conceptual understanding.
As a matter of fact, learning becomes more meaningful and the scope for rote learning is almost
eliminated in the process.
• The ultimate aim of DA are :
Individual Analysis
Instant feedback – The students understand where they have gone wrong and how can they do it in a
better way.
Remedial measures ( Special classes are arranged where the students can revise their concept and get
a better clarity)
Better scope for improvement
With DA in place, our teachers and parents can now stay closely involved in the child’s learning process.
Our Teachers-
Shaping the future
of our Students
A highly competent teacher workforce is imperative for improving the
students’ educational outcomes, especially for those who rely solely on
schools for their successes. Due to the high demand for quality teachers,
alongside a diminishing supply and a steady rate of teachers leaving the
profession for various reasons students’ academic and economic welfare
is considerably threatened.
At, Udgam, we, in no way, compromise on the quality of teachers.
Retaining excellent educators is one of the most important agendas of our
institution. We hire teacher with the appropriate qualifications and
experience. This is to ensure that we have adequate number of qualified
teachers for each class and subject. Given our high number of female
teachers, we take into consideration their family and parental
commitment, maternity leaves and so on. In such situations, neither do
we want our students to suffer /lag behind in academics nor do we
compromise on them. We have a good back up team of teachers who
continue to teach our students without any hassle. The high number of
teachers is directly proportional to our salary expense, but we believe in
providing nothing short of the very best in educating our students. Also,
to ensure that none of our students are overlooked, we have VPs for each
section, along with separate supervisors.
Special Educators and
Counsellors:
We respect the fact not all children are equal. There are students with
special needs, learning difficulties and behavioural issues. Our
commitment is to educate in an unbiased manner. We have special
educators and counsellors who are able to identify the underlying
problems and suggest ways to make education an easy process for such
students. We have about 220 students regularly visiting the counsellors.
This multi-tier system helps in smooth teaching-learning experience for
our students and teachers.
Also, to enable our educators to focus on the academic well being of
each of our students by giving them adequate resources and time, the
school appoints a good number of non-teaching staff who handle
important functions of running a school. Teachers need to be cheerful,
calm and composed at all times to handle the delicate minds of our
students. That is why, we don’t burden our teachers with non-teaching
work. We have separate personnel employed who execute the
following:
• Human Resource Duties
• Admission Management
• IT handling
• Content Management
• Research coordination
• After school/before school activity coordination
• Transport Management
• Graphic Designing
School Bus / Transportation:
No Compulsory Transportation
• Both the locations of Udgam (Jodhpur
and Thaltej) are so advantageous for the
parents that we don’t find it necessary to
keep school transportation compulsory.
We have the option of school transport
but that’s totally optional and left to the
discretion of the parents. Many parents
have been successfully dropping and
picking their wards for years and a lot of
them car pool too. Also, we give
reference of van vendors to the
interested parents, if they would like to
opt for van service for their children.
• However, those who choose to opt for
the school transportation system, we
offer them AC buses and wingers with
trained drivers, integrated GPS tracker in
the vehicle, and dedicated attendants.
These features ensure students’ safety
and comfort while commuting in school
transport.
• The school suffers a huge loss in
transportation. It is pertinent to provide
such a service especially when we have
both the campuses in densely populated
areas. To smoothen out the traffic during
the peak hours we have to provide the
transportation services.
Books,
Stationeries
and Uniform:
Parents are free to buy books, stationeries and uniform from
wherever they want to, as long as they adhere to our list of
books given and the uniform. After class 6, we use only NCERT
books which are not very expensive. At school, we discourage
using fancy stationeries. Using simple pencils, pens, erasers in
modest pencil boxes/pouches is encouraged. This helps in
maintaining uniformity among our students and eradicates
redundant complications.
We have simple uniform rules, having no separate house
uniforms or sports uniform. A simple checked shirt, full length
jeans, blue socks and belt. This way parents don’t have to invest
in multiple uniforms. We give all the parents a list of shops that
sell Udgam uniform which are available in maximum outlets as
compared to any other school. To keep the prices low we have
same uniform for girls and boys. Parents are free to choose the
material of the shirts according to their preferences. School is in
no way involved in the purchase of books, stationeries and
uniforms of our students.
Activities:
Beyond academics, we foster creativity through Arts & Crafts, and extracurricular activities that give them a more holistic experience while helping to
mitigate stress. We, at Udgam school believe in giving our students a life beyond academics and their classroom. Co-curricular activities are just as
important as academics. They both complement each other to develop a well-rounded student with more social skills than one who only concentrates on
their books. Studies have shown that students who participate in co-curricular activities have a marked improvement in the grades. This can be attributed
to skills they learn such as better time management to accommodate their hobbies and class activities, better organizational skills and a boost in their
self-esteem. The aim of education should be to develop an all-rounded student in all aspects. This includes the student’s intellectual, spiritual, social,
physical and moral capabilities. There is need to strike a balance in all these aspects, so as to benefit the child.
• The range of co-curricular activities include:
• Dance
• Music
• Art
• Craft
• Needle work
• Chess
• Carrom
• Yoga
• Karate/self-defence
We also have optional before school and after school activities, for which our respective coordinators collaborate with the best trainers of the city and offer
an interesting range of activities at a subsidized rate. This is again optional for the students. It’s an endeavor to bring forth the best faculties under one
roof and help the parents and students to pursue any activity of their choice, without having to commute to different corners of the city.

Sports &
Games
A holistic education is truly complete only with physical, emotional and
intellectual growth. A school must, therefore take sports and Games as
seriously as academics as taught within the walls of class rooms. Thus, Sports
and Games are an integral part of our curriculum. This is also mandatory as
per our affiliating Board CBSE
When a child regularly plays sports, he develops physical strength and better
coordination skills. The toxins released when playing sports leads to improved
stamina, concentration and sharpness.
• Following Sports & Games are offered at our school.
•
• Skating
• Badminton
• Tennis
• Football
• Cricket
Please note that there’s no related party transaction in our school operation. All
educational and sports activities are outsourced to renowned organisations
who have tie-ups with various other schools, in different parts of India. Our
eminent sports partners are Edusports and Shaishya academy, who have
hundreds of thousands of students under them. All the sports equipment such
as racquets , balls, bats, skates etc. are provided by the school and students
don’t need to bring anything from their home for sports.

A Virtual Tour of the School- Its infrastructure, Policies and Objectives

  • 1. Welcome to a Virtual Tour of Udgam School For Children Since 1965
  • 2. Our School- Vision and Tradition The name ‘Udgam’ means ‘origin’. The school is managed with the aim to fulfill the need to provide top notch education in the city. Over the years, we have maintained the legacy and have left no stone unturned in maintaining the academic excellence of our institute. Also, at the same time, we have evolved as a school and kept pace with the changing trends in the world of education, without however, deviating from our motto-‘Quality Education First’. True to our name, we are the place of ‘origin’ for the budding glocal citizens of tomorrow.
  • 3. Our School Campus, Thaltej, amidst lots of greenery in spite of being located well within the city limits.
  • 4. The courtyard in our school Where Children Play and make memories
  • 5. Udgam School – Location and Infrastructure We are a 53 years old school affiliated to CBSE Board, therefore, investment, infrastructure and resource planning are commensurate with the Board requirement and our mission to provide: Infrastructure Academics Activities Sports & Games, of world-class quality and aesthetics. To achieve these objectives, we have developed a campus, that is conducive to our mission.
  • 6. Udgam – The Neighbourhood School • Studies have shown that long journeys to school have a negative impact on students’ health and on their education achievement levels. Realising the importance of the travel time and distance, we have never considered moving either of our campuses to the outskirts of the city, even though the land price is considerably cheaper in those areas. • Both the premises of Udgam School (Thaltej and Jodhpur) are very suitably located within the city limits and midst of densely populated areas. This prevents unnecessary wastage of time for our students in commuting to and fro school. As a result, they come to school fresh and can be attentive in class. More than 90% of our students stay within the 7 Kms. radius. We give preference of admission based on the distance and hence fulfilling the concept of “neighbourhood school”.
  • 7. This Google map shows that most of our students live in the vicinity
  • 8. Safety and Security We have dedicated security staff diligently monitoring both the premises of Udgam throughout the day and keeping a record of the people coming in and going out. Furthermore, we have trained ayahs and staff taking care of the needs of our students and staff. We cannot take a chance with the security of our students or employees. At the both the campuses these guard manage the traffic to ensure that there is no congestion during the peak hours. As many parents self-drive to pick / drop their children – they need services of guards to guide them for proper parking.
  • 10. CCTV Surveillance We have CCTV surveillance in all the classrooms and corridors, so that we can keep a constant check on our students and teachers. This helps in cutting down of bullying and other untoward behaviour within the school building. We give CCTV viewing privileges and TVs to Vice Principals and Principal for their respective section.
  • 11. Fire Safety To prevent any fire disaster within the school building, we have installed government approved standardised fire extinguishers as per CBSE norms. Fire alarms and extinguishers are deemed as necessary investment as they will save many lives, in case of any fire accidents. All our fire equipment are strategically placed and are well-maintained. We train our staff to operate these facilities in times of necessity. We are responsible for our students’ safety and we cannot afford to overlook this important aspect.
  • 12. Neat, Clean and Hygienic School Compound We provide a welcoming environment for our students at school. Keeping in mind the impact of school building in education, we strive to make it as comfortable, engaging and secure as possible. Our school has appointed separate housekeeping staff who make sure that school building is neat and tidy at all times. Even though this has a cost associated, we can’t ignore the importance of a clean and hygienic school environment. All our staff are trained, very polite and eager to execute their duties.
  • 13. Both our campuses are dust free campus. We do not have bare ground in the premises. Thaltej Campus has lush green lawns. It was indeed a moment of great prestige for the entire Udgam school, when Ahmedabad Mirror featured our school as the cleanest one in the city.
  • 14. Check the video of the latest technology used in our new Jodhpur Building. (click at the bottom)
  • 15. AC Classrooms: Luxury or Necessity? We have provided AC classroom after years of deliberation and research. We decided to install AC in our classrooms for two reasons 1) The unbearable temperature during the summer season: The extreme heat makes the students and teachers very uncomfortable and as a result the teaching and learning process gets affected. 2) Soundproofing: Our AC classrooms are all sound proof. In schools, where teachers teach orally, it's imperative that the background noise is minimised. With AC classrooms, that demand shut windows and doors all the time, we have been successful in removing the background noise. This also prevents our teachers from the very common issue of 'teachers' laryngitis’. Every classroom has most modern cassette AC of Toshiba brand. Cassette Indoor Units gives air circulation evenly across the classrooms. The temperature is adjusted according to climatic conditions, where the children and the teacher do not feel uncomfortable. These ACs are invertor type, therefore are power efficient. Also, the classrooms have occupancy sensors, which means that if there’s no one present in the classroom, the AC automatically stops, which helps in saving electricity. According to industry source, we have one of the least electricity consumption per child amongst various AC schools in India.
  • 16. Smart Classes for Smart Learners Smart Board technology enriches the teaching -learning experience in the classroom. Teachers can make any lesson fun and interactive with the help of a smartboard. The visual elements projected through the smartboards, help the students to retain their lessons better. Students can view diagrams, charts, videos and more, right on the huge screen in front of them. We decided to go ahead with them because we wanted to bring education to life for our students. We have bought the boards from the pioneers of smartboards- the “SMARTboard” company. Along with the same the projectors are from Sony and that is the standard followed across all our classrooms in both the schools. Each class has speakers to give the students a good audio experience. Research shows that using smart technology in the classroom has proven success rates; it raises test scores, improves students’ retention of lesson, enhances literacy, boosts attentiveness, and increases comprehension skills of the students, to name a few. So, smartboards are just one of the many ways how we achieve and maintain high academic results from our students. To complement the excellent hardware, we have bought the software to show on the Smartboards from ‘Extramarks’ which is a 11-year-old company providing software to 8000 schools across the country.
  • 17. Here’s how our Classrooms Look
  • 19. Doors and Windows of the Building: • All the windows in the building are made of German UPVC frames with Double Glass Unit with toughened and tinted glass. These make the classrooms soundproof, safe and energy saving, as less heat is transmitted. The doors are fitted with air tight aluminum frame, toughened glass and double laminated sheet. Therefore, our sturdy windows and doors help in: • Saving electrical power for A.C and high carbon credit • Improves student concentration inside classroom • Improves understanding of oral explanation • Teachers are able to maintain normal / low tone while teaching or communicating with the students which increases the teachers stamina Ceilings : • All our classrooms have special German standard false ceiling, which helps in: • Absorbing Echoes to @ 34 dB sound level and reducing reverberation. • Ensuring complete absence of noise in class rooms & there by ensuring more concentration of children in sessions • Insulation to heat and there by increase the AC effectiveness • There are some aesthetic improvements also with the false ceiling however the benefits of sound and heat insulation are much more than any other benefit. With the help of these ceiling we could install power efficient LED lighting. Lighting : • We have replaced traditional tube lights with power saving LED lights fitting. They minimise the power usage and allows the classrooms to be sufficiently lit. The LED lighting placed at a lower height increases the lumens and ensures clear visibility, along with cutting electric costs.
  • 20. Well-Stocked Library In our endeavor to create a knowledge driven society, we have a very well-stocked library. We can’t deny the integral role of a library in the school. Each student has equitable access to our library resources. This eliminates their need for taking any additional membership at a library outside the school. Our library has a good number of books for all age-groups. It has a good blend of Indian as well as foreign books. We keep updating our stock periodically to keep pace with the student-teacher preferences. We encourage our students to develop the healthy habit of reading as it fosters their intellectual, aesthetic and cultural growth. There is a seating space of 100 students at a time in Thaltej. Total, we have over 40,000 books across two libraries.
  • 21. Our School Labs Udgam school takes pride in having adequate laboratories for our students. Our computer lab, math lab, physics lab, bio lab and chemistry lab allow our students to get a first-hand learning experience and retaining the knowledge for a longer time. Through the school lab experience, we familiarise our students with the scientific advances and developments. We, at Udgam school aim at developing scientific interests among our students, who are the future of our nation. • Special features of computer Labs: • One is to one computer to student ratio – each child gets his own computer for his or her use. • Each computer is state of the art and the school has a policy to replace computer every 5 to 6 years. • They are all connected with LAN and a firewall to ensure they can have restricted internet access if required while training. • Even computer labs have projectors for imparting education. We offer Computer lessons from Jr. Kg onwards. We have the Waterford software for Jr kg. to Grade 2. Waterford gives a unique learning experience to the children. We introduced this to our students as it gives research driven results and has proven to promote academic success of the learners.
  • 22. Students at Work in the Labs ( Physics, Chemistry, Bio, Maths and Computer)
  • 23. Multipurpose School Auditorium Our school multi-purpose hall with 400 people seating capacity is one of the most important parts of school building. It is used for all types of formal assembly, lectures, award ceremonies, dramatic plays, musical theatre, performances, orientation programs for parents and so on. These varied events place a range of demands on the multi-purpose hall, mainly proper acoustics, seating arrangements, lights, mic and air conditioning. For all events, it is essential that everyone in the room hear properly, see clearly and enjoy everything that is presented. This is the purpose of our acoustically designed hall.
  • 24. Lifts inside the School Premises We have lift facility inside both the campuses. This helps our staff and children in carrying the heavy loads of books and other study materials. Lifts are very advantageous for sick or injured students and staff too. We employ disabled people as lift attendants. In total, we have 3 lifts in both the campuses. Thaltej has Schiendler lift and Jodhpur has Mitsubishi lift.
  • 25. Our School Toilets Boys’ toilets are provided with special waterless and odourless Urinals which save water and at the same time, keep the toilets clean and stench free. Girls’ toilets are neat and tidy, eliminating any chance of infection. Also, they are equipped with sanitary pad dispensing and disposing units - Sanipod, which help our girl students to stay comfortable and maintain hygiene. We have tied up with a professional agency to hygienically dispose the used Sanitary Napkins. We also have hand wash soap dispensers installed in all wash basins. The toilets in Thaltej building for boys and girls are in two separate corners which gives additional safety to children. One of the most overlooked concepts in schools is about hand drying. Dry hands are 1000 times safer than damp hands. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20090914005155/en/Dry-Hands-1000-Times-Safer-Damp-Hands At Udgam School Thaltej branch, we have cutting edge HEPA compliant Dyson Hand dryers which dry hands in 10-12 seconds.
  • 26. We have renovated about 90% of our toilets in both the schools and have made them according to modern toilet requirements and standards. The flooring and walls are done with glossy vitrified tiles, which are very hygienic and easy to clean. The lavatories are environment friendly, which low water consumption per flush. We have auto shut off flush with ½ flush facility. Auto shutoff taps are also installed in toilets, to save water.
  • 27. Udgam School App- Connect • Our Connect app has been very popular ever since its launch in June 2016. There are about 5500 parents using the App regularly. The total screen views are a staggering 13 million. Almost 100% parents have successfully downloaded the app. The graph shows the yearly increase of usage of the mobile App:
  • 28. Connect App Features: Commonly, parents are required to visit their child's school to keep track of their progress; however, that often gets difficult due to lack of time in today's busy lifestyle, especially when mostly both the parents are working. Parents often fail to visit, as there is professional pressure and work stress, making it tough for them to concentrate on their child's growth at the school fully. Our Udgam connect app comes to the rescue of the parents and makes it hassle free for them. The app is fully functional and has all the essential features which help the parents to: • Keep a tab on the daily work done in school • Check the calendar and timetable • Apply for leaves • Read the circular • Check the result • Access the various practice sheets • Contact the teachers and VPs.
  • 29. School Portal Apart from the most useful features available on the App, we have a few more essential features on the portal , which is accessible only from the computer. Portal has updates like detailed information about the Activities (how many activity done in the class), whether that student has participated or not, if yes then details about the award, if applicable. Log in to the portal using the student ID and explore the various features.
  • 30. Teachers’ App – Mentor We also have another App -Udgam Mentors for our teachers. Our Mentor app is very user-friendly and allows the teachers to minimize their paper work. It also helps the teachers to plan ahead and stay organized. They can easily respond to parent queries, upload worksheets and quick notes to parents. Below are the features of the Mentors’ App that makes our teachers’ life easy. Teachers can easily upload circulars on the App • Teachers can approve or reject leaves from the app and send comments about leave from the App too • The entire attendance of each student per class can be maintained and tracked using the Mentor’s App • Teachers can keep a record of their observation of each child. This helps in tracking the progress of each child • Record of Late coming students are maintained using the App • Teachers can create class wise PTM schedule using the App and notify the parents about the same • Pictures are easily uploaded using the App of each activity or any special school event • The teachers can quickly upload information on the daily work done • They can send feedback to parent or respond to their comments
  • 31. Our Channels of Communication At Udgam School, we value communication between the school and parents. Apart from the app, every teacher and administrative staff of the school has individual email address. The teachers use industry leading email service of Gmail which is configured in Microsoft Outlook on their laptops. We send emails to parents with important news, updates and articles. We have subscribed to mass emailing software to send emails to all parents quickly and in such a manner that it doesn’t end up in the spam box. We regularly send weekly attendance record of each student to the parents through which they can track the attendance record of the student and compare it against the respective class and section. It has helped to improve attendance ratio for the entire school. This has substantially increased the attendance ratio among our students. Our Vice Principals regularly follow up with the parents of the students who don’t attend school regularly.
  • 32. Surveys and Opinions The school management involves all stakeholders in the decision- making process. Major decisions are taken by involving various heads of the organisation and after the decision is taken the teachers, parents and if possible, students are involved in determining whether the decision achieved its purpose. Before taking an important decision like eliminating the school diary and introducing the App, we did an extensive survey of the parent's choice. Since we need to efficiently collect the opinion we use online platform of “Survey Monkey” to conduct surveys as an when needed. In the surveys , our parents are very satisfied with the features and standards of the school. After analysing survey results, we make necessary modifications in our modus operandi. We give a platform to the parents to voice their opinion. Like the last 4 years, this year too, we conducted a parent feedback survey. We base our decision for improvement of our services based on the findings of such surveys.
  • 33. Opinion on Fees Regulation Ever since the fees regulation legislation had come into force we were wondering how we can reduce our costs. In a school with 5,000 students there are bound to be groups of people who would dissent to any decision. For a democratic approach towards cost optimisation, we undertook extensive value engineering survey a few months back. In none of the 38 options given, there is a consensus towards reduction in costs. Close to 1900 parents responded, still we are unable to undertake any decisive action to curtail our services and hence there is no scope of reduction of related expenditure. Most of the responses showed more than 60% of parents would want to continue the services, facilities and amenities – which means that without dissatisfying a vast majority of parents, we are unable to make a drastic reduction in costs.
  • 34. Social Media Channels: • We have active social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube and Twitter, where we showcase student achievements, post regular updates about the school events and more. In fact, our Facebook page is one of the most active ones other schools and we have been able to achieve the same by posting relevant content which parents “like”. • Over and above the normal posts and events updates – at times we do Facebook live. This helps parents to view their child’s performance sitting in the comfort of their home or from their busy schedule at work. • We also put many parenting articles on social media and blogs to spread awareness in the parent community at large whether or not studying in our school. Several schools across the state are following our Facebook page and emulating our activities. This brings up the overall education level of the state.
  • 35. School Magazine Every month our students get a school magazine- ‘Udgam Matters’ for free that contains pieces of information about a wide range of subjects, feature creative work of the students and much more. The school magazine is a valid book that informs the parents / students and teachers more about the tradition, culture and activities of the school and also records the development of the school. They encourage the students to read and write more. We do not publish any kind of advertisements and hence the children or the readers are not influenced by any kind of marketing. It’s indeed a great platform for the students to showcase their drawings and other talents. School magazines are for keeps and are a great treasure for the students. All the medicines are dispensed free and so is the consultancy is also free. There are about 85 visits per day by students alone. Staff and teachers are also given medicines if required. The treatment is also done for behavioural problems and certain issues which are only curable in homeopathy. We have documented case studies which show that the child’s academics has improved after getting treated with homeopathy. We record the child’s visit in our software which keeps a record of the visit and also inform the parents in the mobile app so parents are aware in case the child has got medical help at the school.
  • 36. Newspaper in Education: Every student of our school , from primary to secondary, is given a free copy of Times of India NIE daily. Newspaper in Education is published by the Bennett and Coleman & Co Ltd., – Monday to Friday. It contains important news and lessons for the students and helps in developing the precious habit of newspaper reading, which, of course further enhances their English skills. Students get to know about current affairs, general knowledge and happenings at various schools.
  • 37. Passport to Excellence: Every Udgamite from Jr. Kg to Grade 5, gets a small passport booklet that records their progress and good deeds throughout the entire academic year. This is one of our innovative ways to keep our students motivated in their school life. There are stickers for various categories or classroom achievements like reading independently, finishing lunch in time, improving in maths and several more. The stickers encompass all categories of a child’s progress in school. Every effort of our student is recognized and acknowledged. This gives the students the necessary boost to improve upon themselves. In fact, parents too can give stickers to their children in the same passport booklet in the parents’ section. Passport to Excellence is our endeavour towards rewarding the ‘behaviour’ of our students which indeed goes a long way in shaping their future. So far, we have received very positive feedback from parents and teachers about this project. Students have taken it in a very positive spirit.
  • 38. Homeopathy Clinic: Children often request early going due to complains of stomach ache, headaches and injuries. It is inconvenient for the parents to pick up their child early from the school and the child also misses out on important classes. To give the child immediate relief in school and to provide emergency care, we have a running homeopathic clinic in the both the campuses of our school. We believe that unless a child attends the school regularly, we will not be able to help him or her to the maximum. It is the fundamental requirement for every child to attend school regularly to reap the benefits of quality education. The doctor is well qualified and experienced to ensure that students are appropriately monitored and administered. A medical resource in unavoidable in school and our clinic is open for all our students and teachers. We prefer imparting education in a healthy environment and under no circumstances, should our teachers and students suffer.
  • 39. Environmental Initiatives: Education goes hand in hand by setting the right example and creating the necessary awareness. Environment threats like water scarcity, plastic usage are on the rise and, as a school, it’s our duty to contribute towards our planet, in whatever way we can. Only this way can we raise a responsible and informed generation. We believe in “teach by example” where we set an example in the child’s mind that how we can be environmentally friendly. As mentioned earlier (under the building section), we have adopted various ways to save electricity and conserve energy. Further, we would like to inform you that we have adopted a ‘go green’ approach. • Rain Water Filtration System and Reverse Borewell: With the underground water level depleting day-by-day, we have constructed a borewell and installed a filtration system in such a way that 70 per cent of the rainwater will be used to charge the aquifers. This prevents water logging inside and outside both of our campuses. • Going Paperless: We use state-of art-technologies to implement some innovative ideas to protect the environment. To minimize the use of paper, school has refrained from publishing marketing brochures or leaflets. Most of the internal communication is done via e- mails. The entire admission process is executed online. The parents are notified by using the mobile app and other modes of electronic communications. Even the leave note is sent on mobile and read by the teacher on the mobile. All the urgent internal communication takes place using WhatsApp. While we reduce use of paper in the school, we do not reduce the use to such an extent that it impacts the quality of education. Hence, we do not compromise on giving worksheets or any other educational material. • “No” to Plastic: We are taking the necessary steps to minimise plastic usage in the school and encouraging our students and parents to do the same. Recently, we introduced biodegradable nashta bowls for our pre-primary students.
  • 40. Academics: Our priority has been and will always continue to offer holistic education and ensuring well-being of our students. Our teaching practices have evolved over the years to be extremely child friendly and are designed to suit the needs of the curriculum. Our high academic standards and commitment to the quality education of every single child is quantified by our excellent results in Board Exams over the years. Ever since the school started in 1965, we have successfully maintained a track record of 100% pass rate. We hire the best teachers in town and continually conduct training sessions and workshops to keep them updated with the evolving trends in the field of education. We believe in blending fun with academics to reduce down the pressure on our students. That is why, our educators and supervisors plan a host of activities to help our children retain their knowledge and instill the right values. • Free Worksheets: Each of our students get multiple worksheets from school. Using their laptops teachers themselves design the worksheets to match the curriculum taught in the school. Worksheets enable the students to clear concepts in a short time and is useful for the parents to revise too. Worksheets in Jodhpur school are printed on colour printer so engage the young minds. We also upload extra practice sheets on our portal regularly which the students can practice at home. All our worksheets are very meticulously planned, which minimises the need to buy extra worksheets or workbooks, helping the parents to save costs. • Free Workshops: Along with academics, we pay enough attention to the overall well-being of our students. We periodically conduct important seminars for free like mental health counselling, career guidance and many others to create the necessary awareness in association with eminent faculties and renowned organizations. English is the most widely spoken language all over the world and the common international language in education. We encourage all our staff and students to communicate in English. In fact, to make English more fun, we conduct free voluntary workshops for our students and hone their overall English communication skills. However, we also give enough importance to Hindi and Gujarati, the state language. We believe in preparing our students for the future. Whatever field of education or career they choose eventually, we make sure their concepts are clear from the very beginning. We encourage our students to participate in Olympiad exams and LogiQids.
  • 41. Detailed Assessment: Teachers work hard in designing the lessons and articulating them. How a child interprets and understands the same is, however, unpredictable. We respect the fact that all children are not the same and some may not grasp whatever is taught to them. So, what could we do to ensure that each child of our school benefits from our way of teaching? The obvious answer is ‘assessment’. But is it effective enough when done at the end of learning? Actually, if the children are assessed during their learning phase, it’s easy for the students, parents and the teachers to understand the performance. When a teacher teaches without finding out who understands the concepts and who doesn’t, then chances are higher that only the already-proficient students will succeed. But what about the others who are lagging behind now but has immense potential to get better? Last year, we have introduced DA ( Direct Assessment) for our students from grade 3 onwards. DA is a set of assessment that goes hand in hand with the school curriculum and syllabus. We have tied up with Educational Initiatives for the same. Educational Initiatives is associated with over 3000 school and more than 3.5 lacs students take their benchmark tests. With the help of DA, the teachers and even the students are able to gauge their level of conceptual understanding. As a matter of fact, learning becomes more meaningful and the scope for rote learning is almost eliminated in the process. • The ultimate aim of DA are : Individual Analysis Instant feedback – The students understand where they have gone wrong and how can they do it in a better way. Remedial measures ( Special classes are arranged where the students can revise their concept and get a better clarity) Better scope for improvement With DA in place, our teachers and parents can now stay closely involved in the child’s learning process.
  • 42. Our Teachers- Shaping the future of our Students A highly competent teacher workforce is imperative for improving the students’ educational outcomes, especially for those who rely solely on schools for their successes. Due to the high demand for quality teachers, alongside a diminishing supply and a steady rate of teachers leaving the profession for various reasons students’ academic and economic welfare is considerably threatened. At, Udgam, we, in no way, compromise on the quality of teachers. Retaining excellent educators is one of the most important agendas of our institution. We hire teacher with the appropriate qualifications and experience. This is to ensure that we have adequate number of qualified teachers for each class and subject. Given our high number of female teachers, we take into consideration their family and parental commitment, maternity leaves and so on. In such situations, neither do we want our students to suffer /lag behind in academics nor do we compromise on them. We have a good back up team of teachers who continue to teach our students without any hassle. The high number of teachers is directly proportional to our salary expense, but we believe in providing nothing short of the very best in educating our students. Also, to ensure that none of our students are overlooked, we have VPs for each section, along with separate supervisors.
  • 43. Special Educators and Counsellors: We respect the fact not all children are equal. There are students with special needs, learning difficulties and behavioural issues. Our commitment is to educate in an unbiased manner. We have special educators and counsellors who are able to identify the underlying problems and suggest ways to make education an easy process for such students. We have about 220 students regularly visiting the counsellors. This multi-tier system helps in smooth teaching-learning experience for our students and teachers. Also, to enable our educators to focus on the academic well being of each of our students by giving them adequate resources and time, the school appoints a good number of non-teaching staff who handle important functions of running a school. Teachers need to be cheerful, calm and composed at all times to handle the delicate minds of our students. That is why, we don’t burden our teachers with non-teaching work. We have separate personnel employed who execute the following: • Human Resource Duties • Admission Management • IT handling • Content Management • Research coordination • After school/before school activity coordination • Transport Management • Graphic Designing
  • 44. School Bus / Transportation: No Compulsory Transportation • Both the locations of Udgam (Jodhpur and Thaltej) are so advantageous for the parents that we don’t find it necessary to keep school transportation compulsory. We have the option of school transport but that’s totally optional and left to the discretion of the parents. Many parents have been successfully dropping and picking their wards for years and a lot of them car pool too. Also, we give reference of van vendors to the interested parents, if they would like to opt for van service for their children. • However, those who choose to opt for the school transportation system, we offer them AC buses and wingers with trained drivers, integrated GPS tracker in the vehicle, and dedicated attendants. These features ensure students’ safety and comfort while commuting in school transport. • The school suffers a huge loss in transportation. It is pertinent to provide such a service especially when we have both the campuses in densely populated areas. To smoothen out the traffic during the peak hours we have to provide the transportation services.
  • 45. Books, Stationeries and Uniform: Parents are free to buy books, stationeries and uniform from wherever they want to, as long as they adhere to our list of books given and the uniform. After class 6, we use only NCERT books which are not very expensive. At school, we discourage using fancy stationeries. Using simple pencils, pens, erasers in modest pencil boxes/pouches is encouraged. This helps in maintaining uniformity among our students and eradicates redundant complications. We have simple uniform rules, having no separate house uniforms or sports uniform. A simple checked shirt, full length jeans, blue socks and belt. This way parents don’t have to invest in multiple uniforms. We give all the parents a list of shops that sell Udgam uniform which are available in maximum outlets as compared to any other school. To keep the prices low we have same uniform for girls and boys. Parents are free to choose the material of the shirts according to their preferences. School is in no way involved in the purchase of books, stationeries and uniforms of our students.
  • 46. Activities: Beyond academics, we foster creativity through Arts & Crafts, and extracurricular activities that give them a more holistic experience while helping to mitigate stress. We, at Udgam school believe in giving our students a life beyond academics and their classroom. Co-curricular activities are just as important as academics. They both complement each other to develop a well-rounded student with more social skills than one who only concentrates on their books. Studies have shown that students who participate in co-curricular activities have a marked improvement in the grades. This can be attributed to skills they learn such as better time management to accommodate their hobbies and class activities, better organizational skills and a boost in their self-esteem. The aim of education should be to develop an all-rounded student in all aspects. This includes the student’s intellectual, spiritual, social, physical and moral capabilities. There is need to strike a balance in all these aspects, so as to benefit the child. • The range of co-curricular activities include: • Dance • Music • Art • Craft • Needle work • Chess • Carrom • Yoga • Karate/self-defence We also have optional before school and after school activities, for which our respective coordinators collaborate with the best trainers of the city and offer an interesting range of activities at a subsidized rate. This is again optional for the students. It’s an endeavor to bring forth the best faculties under one roof and help the parents and students to pursue any activity of their choice, without having to commute to different corners of the city.
  • 47. A Glimpse of Some Activities conducted during School Hours
  • 48. Sports & Games A holistic education is truly complete only with physical, emotional and intellectual growth. A school must, therefore take sports and Games as seriously as academics as taught within the walls of class rooms. Thus, Sports and Games are an integral part of our curriculum. This is also mandatory as per our affiliating Board CBSE When a child regularly plays sports, he develops physical strength and better coordination skills. The toxins released when playing sports leads to improved stamina, concentration and sharpness. • Following Sports & Games are offered at our school. • • Skating • Badminton • Tennis • Football • Cricket Please note that there’s no related party transaction in our school operation. All educational and sports activities are outsourced to renowned organisations who have tie-ups with various other schools, in different parts of India. Our eminent sports partners are Edusports and Shaishya academy, who have hundreds of thousands of students under them. All the sports equipment such as racquets , balls, bats, skates etc. are provided by the school and students don’t need to bring anything from their home for sports.
