STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Comparative study of the stability of two different types of mutual funds i.e, HDFC small-cap
fund and Mirae Assets large-cap fund from financial year 2016 to 2019
INTRODUCTION
MUTUAL FUNDS: Mutual funds is an investment money that is raised from many investors
to invest into equity, bonds, money market instruments, and other securities to share a common
investment objectives.
Each investors owns units which represents a portion of the holding of funds. The income
generated from this collective investment is distributed proportionately amongst the investors
after deduction some expenses.
Mutual funds is most easiest investment option for common man to invest with high return and
less risk.
It is managed by professional investment manager.
Small-cap fund: Small-cap equity funds are those which invest in equity shares of companies
which have smaller capitalization (capital less than rupees 500 crores) and listed under the 250th
rank of the underlying benchmark
Large-cap fund: Large cap funds are those funds which invest a larger proportion of their
funds in companies with large market capitalization ranging more than rupees 500 crores
HDFC Small-cap fund
This scheme is ranked no1 in small cap fund category by crisil
It was launched on 3rd
April 2008 and was known as MORGAN STANLEY A.C.E funds
investing across market caps. It was renamed as HDFC mid cap fund after acquisition of
Morgan Stanleyâs scheme in 2014 by HDFC. Finally in September 2016 the investment
strategy came up with another change and it was renamed as HDFC small cap fund.

Funds has 85.02% investment in indian stock of which 4.78%in large cap stock, 15.78% in mid
cap stock, 62.34% in small cap stocks. Fund has 2.88% investment in debt of which 2.88%
funds investment in very low risk securities.
MIRAE ASSETS Large-cap fund
It is an open ended equity scheme that invest across large cap stocks
It was launched on 4th
April 2008 under Nifty 100 TRI benchmark index. The funds will
predominantly invest in large cap companies, yet it has the flexibility to invest up to 20% in
mid and small cap companies aims to pick the best large cap companies which demonstrate
consistent long term growth.
The objective of investment scheme is to generate long term capital by capitalizing on potential
investment opportunities by continuously investing in equities in large cap companies.
Funds has 96.6% investment in Indian stocks of which 83.73%in large cap stocks, 3.53% in
small cap stocks.

In her project she stated the performance of difference schemes provided by the different
institution. Like mutual funds more cheaper and suitable to small investors and she did research
on mutual fund that have ability to weather the market fluctuation.
HYPOTHESIS:
H0: The investors will not prefer HDFC small cap fund compared to Mirae Assets large cap
fund
H1: The investors will prefer HDFC small cap fund compared to Mirae Assets large cap fund
H0: HDFC small cap fund will not be risky to invest compared to Mirae Assets large cap fund
H1: HDFC small cap fund will be risky to invest compared to Mirae large cap fund

SCOPE OF THE STUDY:
Many schemes has been entered into mutual fund market. A big number of new schemes
entered into market and trying to gain market share in this continuously growing market.
1 The study will help to know the future performance of both the investment plan.
2 The study will help to know the Investment opportunities.
3 We can know the preferences of the customer
4 This will help to know that which companyâs plan and mode of investment is profitable
5 The study will help to analyse the risk return factor
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
Assuming that returns follow a normal distribution the performance of both the funds can be
compared by doing âtâ test. Also we can get the data by getting standard deviation, Alpha value
and Beta value to check the which funds is superior.
This report is based on primary as well as secondary data, but secondary data collection will
be given more importance since it is more effected in performances studies.
Sample size:
The sample size of my project will be limited to 100 to 150 people of age group from 25 to 35
new earning people and who are ready to take risk.
DATA COLLECTION:
Information will be collected from primary and secondary data
The data for these indices will be collected mainly from the HDFC small cap and Mirae Assets
large cap funds website.
An overall comparison would be made across these different categories using various statistical
measures to arrive at final conclusion with respects to the performances of these schemes.
Primary data
The data which is new and which are collected for the first time. The data will be collected
through personal interview through questionnaire

The data which is already collected by someone else in previous time. The secondary data will
be taken from website, books, and journals, and magazines. Balance sheet and company
