1. Q6. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process
of constructing this product
Calvin Chohan 1042: White
Ashley Goodall 2251: Blue
Elliot Sears 1185: Green
Himmet Bahra 1251: Purple
2. Research and Planning: Slide Share
Slideshare was used primarily to upload all research notes which were
done on PowerPoint on to the blog, the reason we used slideshare is
because it allows us to upload the PowerPoint and embed it so it can
be seen on the blog.
3. Research and Planning: Youtube
Youtube was a big help in
both research and
planning, this is due to
youtube having a large
variety of videos we were
able to watch other OTS’s
and gain more knowledge
on our genre, inspiration
and to compare. We also
used youtube for tutorials
in editing to add effects
4. Construction: Leave Colour
As our OTS was black, white and red the leave color tool allowed us to
create the effect by enhancing the red and make the rest of the clip
black and white
5. Construction: Opacity
The opacity tool
enabled us to fade
in and fade out
text and scenes.
Opacity is
generally visibility
with 100% fully
visible and 0%
being visible.
6. Evaluations: Slide Share
When it comes to the evaluation, we will use sildeshare to upload any
pieces we have done on PowerPoint.
Embedding the slide to
upload to the blog
7. Research and planning:
Art of the Title
Art of the title is a free website with a very large range of
film openings covering all genres, even games. It
features new film titles and classic titles. This is useful for
comparing modern film opening to old ones and how
they have changed over time. Another thing that makes
Art of the title so useful is that for each film opening it
shows how the developers made it step by step. This
helped use plan ideas to create a film opening in any
style, symbolic, linear or nonlinear.
The way Art of the Title helped us during research was
by looking at a lot film openings with the same genre as
our film opening, Slasher. How the conventions were
used, what credits and style and how the narrative was
shown. If it wasn't for this our film would not be what it
is today.
8. Research and planning:
Netflix
Netflix is a global site where you can
watch entire films or TV series instantly
from all genres. The cost of Netflix is
5.99 pound a month. There is an
option where we could see all the
horror films Netflix had to offer, this
was extremely useful for our research.
From the use of Netflix it allowed us to
see what genres used what type of
credits, the style size and color. We
learnt from this research that Slasher
film openings have plain and normally
in a white credits with a fade effect.
9. Construction: Camera
During the filming of our Slasher film opening I
used my personal camera, a Canon 700D. The
image of this camera is really sharp image of 18
megapixel CMOS. This camera has many useful
features such as, great low light shots, powerful
processing, 1080p movies, corrects best
exposure for shooting and creative framing.
From filming I have learnt and developed
camera work skill. Firstly I improved my framing
skill with opening framing and closed framing
shots of different weapons. Secondly I learnt
how to focus pull with control to emphasize the
sharpness of weapons. Lastly I recognized
effective angles to film to make the clip more
interesting the target audience.
10. Construction: Tripod
With the use of the tripod it allows
use to show good control of the
camera. It prevented us from having
shaky shots and creating blur. Also it
allowed use to film in a wide range of
different shots , pan, tracking, low,
high, and 360 shot.
Without the use of the tripod, our
film will not be successful as it is
today. An example is that it allowed
us to film pan such as when our killer
looks over all his weapons and when
our victim is reavled.
11. Evaluation: Prezi
Prezi is a website
presentation tool where
you can present
presentations to in a easy
to use format.
Prezi allowed my group
and myself to present our
ideas, plan and research in
a easy and clear way.
12. Research and Planning: Timetoast
We used timetoast for our blog and we
used it to show when we are going to
film and edit, it has all of the dates on
there in a timeline so it doesn’t make
it complicated. It made it a lot easier
to plan ahead so we could be
prepared and get a lot done quicker.
13. Research and Planning: Google
Google helped use research all of the things that we will need
to include into the OTS such as what kind of location, props
and make up. This told us everything we needed to know, it
has hugely benefited us because it helped us get a lot more
done and understand the sub genre a lot better.
14. Construction: Black and white
We used the black and white effect throughout are whole OTS and this
was to create a nice effect on the OTS and it made it look darker and
it fitted the OTS and it benefited us a lot because the natural lighting
would not have work as well as he black and white.
15. Construction: Audacity
We used audacity to record our foleys and this helped us create sounds
for the bat knife slit and the screams. This has benefited us hugely
because it was really quick and easy to do and there was no problems
with the recording software.
16. Evaluation: Emaze
We used Emaze for one of our technologies for one of our evaluation
questions. This massively benefited us because it was a very quick
and easy site to use and we can access it with ease. Also this shows
people that we can use different websites so it makes it a lot more
interesting.
17. Research and Planning: Prezi
We used Prezi in presentations to show our peers how we were going
to construct our OTS. It’s a broader version of Microsoft PowerPoint
and visually on the slide trail see the important factors are we were
going to address while in the Research and Planning faze.
18. Research and Planning: Wikipedia
Wikipedia was a great resource when looking at other slasher horror
films. This gave us an insight into distribution companies, conventions
and narrative enigma.
19. Construction: Cut tool
The cut tool is used for trimming the sides of videos to then capture
the section which would be used in a film. The benefit from this was
that were able to able to practice shots over to perfect them if the
outcome wasn’t good, we could simply select the area to trim with
the scissor icon and cut the shot to length.
20. Construction: Placing clips
Placing clips was an important especially for the overall effect our OTS.
We wanted to create a narrative enigma however not confuse the
audience. So placing clips to make the editing was continuous was
important. The benefit is that the placing can be changed to help suit
the message of what's happening just through editing to make the
plot line easily understandable.
This is done by holding left click
and dragging the clip
21. Evaluation: Powtoon
Powtoon was a good online presentation website used to create short
stories and presentations. The benefit of this was that we were able
to use the many editing features as a contrast to a standard
PowerPoint do portray our Research and Planning or other sections.
In our evaluation, we used Powtoon how we looked into our
Distribution company and why we chose it. A big benefit is that its
extremely versatile and could change a lot features such as colour
design and format to help separate different sections of what we
spoke about as a group.
