Understanding the Pakistan Budgeting Process: Basics and Key Insights
Question 4
1. Question 4 – How did you use media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
By Jack Lynham, Leighton Shoemake and Connor Leigh.
2. How did technology help improve our trailer?
• After we had done most of the filming for our trailer we needed to bring the clips
together and begin to edit them. This is why we needed software such as ‘Premiere
Pro’ to do this.
• When beginning the editing process we looked at a lot of our clips and realised that
we needed to change the brightness. We wanted connotations of dark and light to
portray binary oppositions as suggested by theorist Levi Strauss but it needed to be
light enough so the audience could see what was happening in the shot, which is
why we tweaked the composition a lot in our trailer.
• Without the use of lighting effects our trailer would look much worse as the whole
dark versus light theme would be ruined and no binary opposition would be created.
3. How did technology hinder our trailer?
• During the filming of our trailer the camera that we used wasn’t of a high
quality, which prevented us from using some camera techniques such as a
focus pull. This was particularly troublesome for us as we had to reject some
of our previous shot ideas because of the fact we could not do a focus pull.
4. How did technology help improve our poster?
• Technology improved our poster because we were able to edit them using
advanced software such as Photoshop.
• Using Photoshop we were able to create lots of different effects on our
magazines such as dark lighting and dark settings, which made them look
more professional and contributed to the horror tone of the text.
5. How did technology hinder our poster?
• When taking pictures for our poster we had to use a poor quality camera due
to the budget we had. This prevented us from taking high quality photos and
videos which held us back due to the quality of the camera. This restricted us
from taking pictures in certain places and times due to the fact the quality
would not be good enough for the poster.
6. How did technology help improve our
magazine?
• Technology helped our magazine as we were able to use Photoshop to edit
lots of our images to slowly craft our magazine.
• With the amount of tools on Photoshop you can edit images easily and you
can add many effects, for example you could add filters or change lighting.
7. How did technology hinder our poster?
• However in our magazines we needed to add a picture of one of our
characters in the film/trailer. This required us to use a green-screen however
our lighting on the green-screen was not perfect, which required us to
remedy the problem in the post-production stage.
8. How did we use technology to engage with our
audience?
• One of the things we did to engage with our audience was create many polls
asking how our target audience felt about certain themes and aspects we
were using in our magazine covers or posters. This allowed us to see first-
hand what our audience thought about our poster, magazine and trailer.
• This then allowed us to improve our tasks as we could see more clearly what
was effective and what needed to be changed.
9. What types of technology did we use to
construct our trailer and magazine?
• To create our trailer we used Premier Pro rather than iMovie which we had
used last year. This was because Premier Pro, whilst it was more complicated,
had much more effects and allowed us to conform to many horror themes
such as darkness.
• To create our poster we used Photoshop, this was our only option as we had
no other software to create it with that would have similarly advanced effects
that we would need to make it look like a real poster.
