Evaluation question 4 ptt
1. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Question 4
2. Pre-production During the planning stage of the film, we had to create a storyboard to help us structure our film, which was about ‘regrets’. To create the storyboard we used a digital camera to take photos of the sketches of the images of our film, that we draw, so that we could upload it on the iMac computers, using a software called iMovie. This software allows you to create a 3D storyboard to give you an idea of what the film is going to look like. However, thus software didn’t quite work for us so we created our storyboard in another software called Final Cut Pro. From this planning, we gained an idea of what our film was going to look like and how it was going to turn out. We had professional feedback on how we were progressing with these software from a BBC editor Lockman Chekki. He gave advice on how we could improve our storyboard and familiarised us with the software.
3. Production Wen we moved on to the production part of the process, we had to learn all the different camera angles, how to use and set the camera before recording a scenes, how the scenes should be recorded to make it more effective and put them in practice when actually recording. When the process took place we had a professional cameraman come in to teach us these elements and give us feedback on our work. He taught us the ‘Rule Of Thirds’ and how to set the ‘white balance’ of the camcorder and how these are used in the recording process in the filming industry and how effective they are in a film.
4. Production To help me understand more of ‘The rule of thirds’ and the ‘White Balance’ I used the internet to gain more knowledge as well as find out more elements of the filming industry, for example, Lead room, Cinematography, Head Room and how all these can be put in practice.
5. Post production The most difficult part of filming was the editing part, when we had to put and structure the film together. To help structure our film we used: Final Cut Pro to upload all the scenes we shoot and use the ones we liked and needed. Logic Pro 8 to produce the music and sound effects we needed and I think this technology was really helpful as it allowed us to create and produce our own music and sound to fit with our film. Dab Mixing Desk helped us to compose our own sound tracks. Some were borrowed from the College Library, however they were turned into our own composed music to match and fit in with our film.
6. Post production Live type to help us create our opening of our film. This software of useful as it had a lot of different, striking, out bursting effects to chose from. It gave us the opportunity to create an opening that best suits our film and genre that we had chosen. Emails and phones to communicate with one another in our group so that we kept each other up to date with the changes we made with the film and organised the location and the actors that we needed. Facebook to promote and get feedback from our target audience, which was quite useful as we got feedback immediately. Microsoft word to plan and write up our film script, trailer script and all the planning we need t be done was done on word. We also had to create a vimeo account to allow use to convert our film in to a vimeo structured film. Photoshop to create our poster to meet our specified need and to match it with our film.
7. Post production Our trouble when editing our film was that we had difficulty structuring it and making sense out of it. We had trouble displaying and illustrating what we had thought for thee film. Our first draft of the film turned out completely wrong. Our film did not make sense at all and it was not clearly structure as we hoped it would be. So had to change our whole storyboard from regrets to a psychological drama, using the Final Cut Pro software. Our second attempt was better as it made more sense however it became too confusing, which was the plan, but it was too difficult to solve. However, our third and final attempt turned our great. The outcome was what we wanted and much more. With the help of the sound effects that we created with the sound equipment helped structure our film and gave it that boost that we need to attract our target audience.
