How did you use new media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation?
2. Websites used:
Used to create presentations, I found Prezi very useful
in constructing presentations to explore different
stages of planning. I used prezi to research the genre of
the media products. Prezi was a good presentation
method because:
It is fast
Variety of layouts to choose from
Easy to embed as a file
Easy to use (insert videos and pictures)
For my genre presentation I wanted to make it look as
aesthetically pleasing as possible and so this meant
using a variety of screenshots and videos. I also wanted

3. Websites used:
For our target market research I used Pearl & Dean and
Thinkbox.
Pearl and Dean allowed me to compare statistics to similar films
and see what percentage of people are male, female their age and
other information. This really helped us to begin to understand
the audience and how we could market our media products to
suit what we discovered to be our audience.
Thinkbox then helped us take this a step further by showing
statistics on what platform was used to watch TV and so we
could see where is best to show our teaser trailer. For example,
online, TV and other options were among the few that were
most popular.
These websites massively helped to distinguish a target market.
The evidence shows that the majority of
the audience for this film were 15-24 and
mainly watched TV.
4. Websites used:
Search engines like Google allowed us to gather
information we needed to research, as well as providing
pictures relating to the content. As you can see from the
screenshot provided, by typing in something as simple
as ‘thriller posters’ you can compare to hundreds. This
was particularly useful in my analysis of posters and
magazine covers. It was also used to search an other
websites I needed in order to achieve certain
information. Google was significant throughout the
entire project.

YouTube was used to :
Watch existing media content for analysis
Upload both rough cuts and final products
Give and receive feedback on teaser trailer
This site was not only useful for the above
reasons but it also allowed you to screenshot
frames that could then be used analyse and
mostly, compare to your own work.

7. Websites used:
The main website used was Mahara.
This was the platform we used to
evidence our work. It allows you to
embed videos and presentations, give
access to links and photos and is a very
reliable way of showing your work.

8. Websites used:
Other than the sound available on Final Cut Pro X, sound
wasn’t easily discoverable. Free sound allows you to
download sounds via google drive and include them in
your final piece.
This method was very reliable, there are a lot more realistic
sounds and a wider variety meaning more options. The
process of downloading them was quick and simple also.
9. Software used:
Final cut pro X was the software we used to edit our final
pieces. The functions on the software made production a lot
quicker and easier. It allowed you to:
Select relevant clips using the favourite tool
Cut clips and copy clips via shortcuts
Layer clips by simply dragging certain clips
Preview transitions and effects before selecting them
When producing the teaser trailers within a time period, we
had to ensure efficiency and it was shortcuts like these that
The software used to create the poster and
magazine was Photoshop and Illustrator.
These programmes were very useful as you
could drag and drop images between them
instead of importing files which made it a lot
more complex and time consuming.
Our final piece wouldn’t of been able to have
been completed to a sophisticated standard
without the software.

10. Equipment:
For our filming and producing we used an Apple Mac, a
Canon DSLR camera, an iPad and iPhone.
The mac enabled us to use all of the software to make our
media products and to plan and research. It allowed us to
drag and drop between softwares and screenshot easily.
For the filming we used a Canon DSLR camera is gave us
clear shows and allowed to preview the shot after taking it to
see how focused and clear it was.
We used an iPad and iPhone for practice shots and for
planning of the magazine cover and poster.
Benefits of using the Canon DSLR camera
meant that
● Lenses were easily adjusted which
meant that we could change
accordingly.
● Instead replay of the shot on the digital
screen.
● High quality in low lighting.
11. Overall
The technologies used to produce the three media products and evaluate the process
have been very useful and reliable. For each question I have used a presentation
software, Google Slides, Prezi and Emaze were all very good in allowing me to produce
presentations that displayed the work carried out effectively. All of the websites along
with the equipment worked well in creating a final presentation that was suited to
what I was evaluating.
