communicate clearly and self-reflect on
behaviours and actions while providing top-

doors before entering, introducing yourself,
addressing patients by last name.
CONFIDENTIALITY- keeping patient’s
information private because they have a right to
privacy & confidentiality.
3. TRUST- patients need to believe that the nurse
is reliable from the way they communicate
warmth & caring and demonstrating
consistency, reliability, honesty and competence.
ACCEPTANCE & RESPECT- the nurse should be
non-judgemental and provide high quality care
regardless of social/economic status, personal
attitude or nature of an illness.
AVAILABILITY- the nurse should be present for
the patient when needed or even offer presence
when the patient does not express the need
verbally: a nurse would show a caring attitude,
demontrate willingness to listen and talk or by
just being physically present to the patient.
