1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR
MUSIC MAGAZINE USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF
EXISTING MUSIC MAGAZINES
Tom Peacock
2. Front Cover
Masthead
• It is placed at the top left hand side of the page to focus viewer's attention
(Conventional)
Main Coverline
• It is placed in the mid-left side of the page so it is one of the first thing people see. It is
also accompanied underneath by its subheading (Conventional)
Coverlines
• They are lower, smaller and on the opposing side to the main coverline so it does not
draw too much attention away from the main story. Also accompanied by headings
(Conventional)
Main Image
• The main image covers most of the front cover and attracts the attention of the target
audience as it overlaps the Masthead (Conventional)
Font: I have used a font that is
relevant and recognisably jazzy. I
have also used the bright orange
colour to highlight exclusives
(throughout)
3. Contents Page
Masthead
• I have developed the Masthead from the front cover and used the same style, but
for the contents page. I have made it look like it wraps around the page to add a
feel of depth (Conventional/Developed)
Main Coverline
• My Coverline is split from the ‘In this issue’ box as I want it to attract
people’s attention. I have used the width of my model’s back to include
a very aesthetic way to direct people to the main story page
(Developed)
Coverlines
• I have 3 secondary main stories which includes pictures to flesh out the contents
page and to attract the audience. Also, I have included a few more stories to give
the feeling that the magazine is jam packed with content (Conventional)
4. Double Page Spread
Pull Quotes
• Instead of 1 pull quote I decided to use 2 because I thought that the image was a
bit bare so I added the 2nd quote to break the image up a bit and I think it worked
really well. My main pull quote was put there to explain the main image
(Conventional/Developed)
Main image
• I thought that this ‘bad-boy’ image would expand the target audience to young
people. Breaking the stereotype of old jazz being reserved could increase the
interest in this article. The main image is the main focus of the page as it cover 1
half of the double page spread. The underlying main pull quote gives the effect of
depth on the page
