2. Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu was built around the 1450s by the Incas.
Two of the greatest inca leaders were Pachacutec Inca Yupanqui and Tupac Inca Yupanqui, they built Machu Picchu
At the year 1572, the Spanish came and invaded the people in Machu Picchu.
It’s possible that most of the incas in Machu Picchu died from the travelers diseases but mostly from smallpox.
3. At 1911 there was a man that made the discovery of Machu Picchu official, his name was Hiram Bingham
Hiram Bingham organized a pretty big expedition called the Yale Peruvian Expedition
The locals guided him until they rediscovered and identified two other lost cities that is known as Vitcos and Vilcabamba.
Before Hiram left Machu Picchu, One of many artifacts he found was a pair of ceremonial Incan knives from the material bismuth bronze

4. The Inca Trail
The Inca Trail has three different trails, the three are called Mollepata, Classic and One Day.
Mollepata is the longest trail, it also has the highest mountain pass and even intersects with the Classic route
The Mollepata trail passes through several types of environments like cloud forest and alpine tundra, it even intersects with the
Classic route before crossing with another route called the “Dead Woman” or by the regular name “Warmiwañusqa”.
Whilst you walk the trail you will stumble upon several settlements, tunnels and Inca ruins before arriving at the Sun Gate on the
Machu Picchu mountain.
The other two trails require an ascent beyond 4,200 metres above sea level, which can result in altitude sickness.
5. Vitcos
Vitcos is an archaeological site in the Cusco Region where Machu Picchu with others.
It’s believed to have been used by Manco Inca, he was the ruler of the Neo-Inca State.
Neo-Inca State was the Inca state established by Manco Inca Yupanqui in Vilcabamba in 1537.
6. Vilcabamba
It was founded by Manco Inca, Manco Inca was the founder and monarch of the Neo-Inca State.
It’s the capital of the Neo-Inca State and the last refuge of the Inca Empire before it’s fall by the Spaniards in 1572
After the fall of the capital, the Spaniards destroyed it and Vilcabamba became a lost city.
Manco Inca retreated from Ollantaytambo to Vitcos, after retreating from Vitcos he came to the capital, Vilcabamba.
7. Rulers of Vilcabamba
Titu Cusi was the Inca ruler of Vilcabamba after his brother’s death, he was the son of the famous Manco Inca.
Titu Cusi ruled until his death in 1571. Whilst Titu Cusi ruled, he named Tupac Amaru as his priest and custodian of Manco Inca’s body.
After Titu Cusi’s death, Tupac Amaru became the ruler of Vilcabamba.
Tupac Amaru then got beheaded in 1572 by the Spanish.

8. Facts of Vilcabamba
Vilcabamba was featured in the Tomb Raider game and it’s remake in a level in the game.
Vilcabamba was also visited in a episode of the documentary series Conquistadors. You follow the historian, Michael Wood
The famous deceased rapper Tupac Shakur, his birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks but got it renamed after the Inca ruler Tupac Amaru.
