The document summarizes the design choices for a college magazine. It discusses using a handwritten font to relate to students and placing a central photo on the cover to draw attention. Images in the magazine mostly feature students to allow them to relate to the content. The author notes some improvements could be made, such as checking spelling and changing the number of squashed images on the contents page. However, the author is pleased with the clear layout and how design elements like the font and colors evoke thoughts of college.
2. My magazine represents the social group of students. It does this by using typography that has the connotation
of handwriting, which is relatable to students. The font was chosen because me and 2 other that I asked the font
was easy to read and I thought it would make student look because it looks like handwriting. The text was
placed in that location so that the person in the photograph wouldn’t have writing going over him as he is the
most important aspect of the cover. The images on the magazine are also mostly of students and so students
can relate to the images. The central framing and 90o angle of the photograph show that the he is the most
important thing on the cover. On the contents page I split the images to top right and bottom left so that they
wouldn’t look too squashed, however looking back I think I should have just used three or two images instead of
four. I also could have added some more cover lines on the front cover or stories to the contents page. I chose
the colour scheme of yellow purple and red because I knew that students would instantly associate it with City
College Norwich and so then associate City College Norwich with themselves.
3. Improvements
My magazine can be improved by checking
spelling because when I looked back at my work
I saw I misspelled ‘student’. I also could change
the font style because apparently it is sometimes
hard to read. I could also change the amount of
images on the contents page from four to two or
three. I could also stretch the images a bit more
as they look a little squashed.
Things I am happy with
I am happy with the layout of my magazine as I think
it is clear and easy to understand. I happy with the
connotations of some of the various aspects of the
magazine for example I am happy that the font and
the colours of the masthead made people think
about college and about handwriting that links to
students and college. The social media is also
effective.
