Presentation by Andreas Schleicher Tackling the School Absenteeism Crisis 30 ...
Four corners open floor discussion questions
1. Open Floor Questions
1) What is something from any of the case studies we covered that has
stayed with you as you were reading and learning? Why is this
important OR what have you learned from this and why did it
specifically stand out to you?
2) Is it possible to stop being “human,” and if so, what determines this
humanity? When does it start/stop? What is the essential factor in
being “human”? (Simply: What makes us human vs. animal?)
3) How do we see history repeating itself in regards to crimes against
humanity? Why do you think these crimes persist?
4) Is being indifferent to the suffering of others equally immoral as
causing suffering to others? Why or not? Be able to support your
answer with evidence from the text and/or current events.
Bonus Round! +2 for every question answered (VERBAL
participation required)!
5) Oppression Olympics is a term used to describe when two or more
groups compete to prove who is more oppressed than the other in
society. Have you witnessed any examples of people weaponizing
“oppression olympics?” What specific things can we do to stand in
solidarity with other communities instead of pitting them against
each other?
6) As a young person, what do you think your generations’ role is in
creating a more just world where genocide cannot occur? What acts of
everyday resistance can you implement to push back?
7) What are some other instances of genocide or acts of hate that we
haven’t covered in class? What connections can you make to what we
learned?
8) The bottom two tiers of the pyramid of hate are biased attitudes and
acts of bias. Have you ever witnessed or experienced anything from
these two tiers? If so, how did it make you feel? And how can you
contextualize that experience with what we have been learning?
