Literary Criticism Unit Overview
Objectives
● I can cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly
● I can draw inferences from a text
● I can identify and analyze literary themes
● I can show how a theme emerges and is shaped/refined by specific details
● I can analyze how complex characters (e.g. those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over
the course of a text, including how they interact with other characters
● I can analyze how characters advance the plot and theme of a text
● I can analyze a particular point of view or cultural experience reflected in a work of literature from within
and outside the United States
● I can write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and
