effectiveness for eco-innovation in the hospitality industry.
3. Eco-Innovation Actors of Social Networks in the
Hospitality Industry
Important aspect of eco-innovation is the work of interlinked eco-
innovation actors. These actors are;
• Local Communities
• Customers
• Governments & Policy Makers
• Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
• Investors
• Suppliers, Distributors
• Universities, Research Center in addition to firms.
4. Eco-Innovation Actors of Social Networks in the
Hospitality Industry
Local Communities: Better economic development is possible with the
implementation of the eco-innovation practices in the community (Kemp &
Pearson, 2007).
Customers: It is crucial for tourists to gain awareness about eco-innovation by
raising awareness in the target customer.
Governments, Policy Makers: If eco-innovation practices are to be accepted
and applied, it is only possible with the policies that local governments are
beginning to apply. In this context, local governments have greater
responsibility to develop eco-innovation practices in the hospitality industry
and to increase the share of the hospitality industry.
5. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs): As the environmental
consciousness increase in locally and globally, there has been an
increase in the number of NGO's operating in the hospitality industry.
Investors: They are another crucial element of eco-innovation in the
tourism initiatives, as they make investment for the creation of
effective infrastructure (OECD, 2005).
Others: Especially investment in R&D / environmental investment,
universities and research centers and qualified employees are needed
to adaption of eco-innovation practices and in the enterprises to create
innovative approaches.
6. Selection of Appropriate Networks for Eco-
Innovation of SME in Hospitality Industry
• Selection of social network helps the SMEs to get an effective
guidance to the procedure of eco-innovation understanding.
• In order to select appropriate network, it is important to focus on
analysis of hospitality industry in a more effective way.
• Both trust and cooperation between network groups are highly
essential for creation of eco-innovative networking system.
• Determination of costs is crucial for all SMEs. All SMEs want to create
an affordable cost structure. In this respect, the integration of social
networking in the process of eco-innovation is important in
consideration of cost structure.
7. Contracts and Agreements for Eco-Innovation
There are lots of contracts and agreements related with the sustainability
and eco-innovation. Some of them are as follows:
• Kyoto Protocol
• Paris Agreement
• Energy Efficiency Laws
• The National Action Plan on Climate Change and Energy Efficiency
Strategy Act (2011-2023 )
• 10th Development Plan of Turkey (2014-2018)
• The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
• Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (EIP)
8. It is possible to increase the number of contracts and agreements
related with the sustainability and eco-innovation. Overall, we can say
that in order to create proper environment for the eco-hospitality
industry, the key activities include the creation of new contracts and
agreements, defining and establishment of business networks,
defining their roles and utilization of social networks in a proper way
and identification of business needs and requirements.
