1. 2017 Program – Energy & Environment Working Group
The Business Council of Mongolia (BCM) is a leading non-political organization established in
2007 representing local and international businesses and investors in Mongolia. BCM aims to
promote trade and investment in Mongolia, strengthen Mongolia’s business environment, and
advance the needs of investors and the community of private enterprises. As of December
2016, BCM has more than 240 member organizations comprising leading businesses in the
country.
BCM’s Energy & Environment Working Group (EEWG) provides a platform to examine
potential solutions and actions through which BCM Members may tackle issues related to
Energy and the Environment. Through a multi-stakeholder approach, the working group
informs and promotes environmentally sound and sustainable business practices and serves
as a forum for exchanging on the latest developments in the energy and environmental
sectors.
Recap of 2016 EEWG sessions:
- February – Sustainable Finance Initiative: Latest developments, progress towards private fund
establishment (17 people)
- April – Innovation in green technology (13 people)
- May – Energy Efficiency initiatives (17 people)
- June – Efficient Heating and Smart House Solutions (28 people)
- September – New Government's agenda for Energy and the Environment issues (60 people)
- October – Site-visit, development initiatives in the ger districts (8 people)
- December – Air Quality Improvement: from research to action (TBD)
In 2017, the EEWG will focus on two main themes:
1) Air Quality Improvement
2) Energy Conservation
The EEWG will support BCM Members to address these themes through three activities:
- Advocacy
o Emphasize ongoing initiatives and projects around the EEWG themes
- Awareness raising
o Enable exchanges on latest developments in evidence, practice and technology
- Encouraging and tracking actions
o Present concrete actions that BCM members may initiate and promote results
