experience, by getting us to feel scared and
excited in a unique way.
3. Objectives

magazine
• The magazine will consist of 60 pages, with a

sophisticated look. The glossy finish will bring out
the dark colors within the magazine, adding more
vibrance and shine as well as making the
magazine more visually striking to the audience
• The magazine will be available as a physical copy
as well as online via the magazine website:
www.horrorhaven.co.uk
• I will be selling the magazine at a price of 2.50.
This is a price that I feel that both my primary and
secondary audience will be willing to spend on the
magazine
The name of the magazine is horror haven. This name is unusual for a horror magazine as the word's horror and haven as the names contradict each other. This is because the word horror has negative connotations with the word itself connoting ideas death, darkness and evil. Haven on the other hand, has positive connotations where the word associates with the idea of security and comfort. Together the two words juxtapose each other creating this idea that not everything is as it seems and how though at times you may think you are safe, that there's always this darkness and evil that’s can haunt you.
Purpose
1- explain how- this rush of adrenaline is from when we get excited but scared by the tension building, unexpecting surprises and gory imagery (blood, glass, broken bones, discolouring on face)
2- This is a feeling that we as an audience who watch this horror entertainment love and its because horror entertainment takes us on an adventure, allowing us to experience fear in a safe environment, where we aren't living this dangerous and traumatic experience that’s shown on a screen, we are simply just watching a movie that is entertaining and something that leaves scared and on the edge.
1- These films could be independent films produced by independent companies as well as existing films that are part of an existing film series or that are brand new. By doing this, the companies producing these upcoming films will get publicity for their work before its released as well as get people excited about the film that will be released
2- This is beneficial for actors and actresses who are looking to launch a career in acting, as these interviews will allow them to gain knowledge about the industry as well as learn acting skills that will equip them for this industry they aspire to go into.
3- In this section of the magazine, there will be a list of 4 movies that will act as nominees for each of the 5 categories that people will be casting their vote based off. There will be a QR code within that section of the magazine that will lead to a website where people can cast their votes. Voting will be anonymous, and it will close 3 days after the release of an edition of the magazine . The results for award section will be featured on the magazines social media pages the following week after than edition of the magazine has been released.
For the editions of the magazine that will be released during Halloween, the content will also include competitions to win free cinema vouchers for Halloween films that are shown at North London cinemas.
Inclusive of all ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds
PA - This is because a lot of horror films have age ratings ranging from 15-18 as most horror films consist of a mature nature that is appropriate for people over 15 years old .A younger audience would also typically be interested in horror films and so therefore, it would make sense to target this magazine at this age group
SA- This magazine will appeal to aspiring actors and actresses because they'll gain knowledge into this industry they hope to work in and the knowledge that they gain, this will help them become more prepared for when they eventually launch their careers in acting.
Selling the magazine at these locations will allow me to target the magazine easily at both my primary and secondary audience. This is because these locations are where most young people and aspiring actors and actresses tend to spend to spend their spare time and so by selling the magazine at these locations, I can communicate the magazine with both my primary and secondary audience
One way I will market the magazine is by advertising it digitally through social media, but specifically through on Instagram and TikTok. Through social media, I can easily target my chosen primary target audience, given how these two social media platforms are typically utilized by younger people who use it communicate with friends online and to find out about the latest and most popular trends regarding their personal interests. And so, this marketing strategy will allow me to easily communicate the magazine with my primary audience.
Another way I will market the magazine is through handing out flyers outside of cinemas and cult entertainment/stores and on high streets. The flyers will contain general information about the magazine including when its weekly editions will be released as well as where the magazine is available to be purchased at and an advertisement about the film that will be promoted in the magazine. By doing this, I will again be communicating with the right people I choose to target my magazine at but also, I will be achieving one of my objectives for the magazine : this being to engage people on the latest horror movies before they come out in the movies.
I have selected darker shades of certain colors, and these represent different themes and aspects that are explored within horror films. Red can be associated with anger and passion, where a character's violent intentions result in causing harm or death to its enemy. Red can also be linked to blood which is often present in horror films particularly in scenes involving violence. Black represents the darkness within horror, and this makes sense since most horror movies happen at night where the evil and tension unfolds and when ghosts and worse nightmares come alive at this time of day. Green signifies immortality and this idea of the natural turning unnatural. These themes are present in horror films that include characters who are presented as the antithesis to humanity. Blue represents mystery and uncertainty, which evokes fear within the audience who anxiously anticipate this mystery and uncertainty as to what happens next within the storyline. Although White is typically associated with peace and tranquility, the color can also be linked to vulnerability and death, where a character's face in a horror film goes white and pale when they are in danger, or they are deceased.
Masthead:
I have selected a typeface that is a serif font where each letter has tiny flicks on the ends. The letters looked jagged and intimidating and there's a gothic style within how each letter is formed. This gothic style resonates with the genre for the magazine being horror and how some horror films feature gothic conventions such as a haunted house that is part of the background setting of a film and ghosts and monsters which are characters that are typically portrayed as villains and a danger to others. The color of the masthead is black and there's is a boldness to each letter which allows the letters to look clear and visible.
Coverlines:
The typeface is also a serif font. The letters looked neat and clear, which will help the audience read the cover lines, knowing what feature articles will be included in the magazine
Body copy:
This typeface is a sans serif where there are no flicks on the ends of each letter. The typeface is also simple and basic, where the letters read clearly, and each letter is in bold. This will be helpful for the audience as they will be able to easily read the magazine due to the words and letters on each page looking clear and visible. The color of the typeface for the body copy will vary for each page of the magazine depending on each page's background color and the color of the cover lines on each page.
My budget consists of a rough estimation on how much I will have to spend on the resources and personnel I need for the magazine. When calculating the budget, I considered how much I would roughly spend on each of my resources and personnel require as well as the amount of time I will need to spend with each of one of my personnel.
Scream and Gorezone are examples of my competitors who looks at the genre of horror. They are well-established within the horror magazine industry
For the first edition of the magazine, The interview will feature an upcoming north London actress Rosie Blunt who has recently stared in a horror film 31/10/06, an independent film that was produced and shot in North London.
