Now-a-day threat of COVID-19 pandemic is still there, as about 1 million cases
of people positive with COVID-19 have been reported in the past week [2]. So
to avoid getting this disease, social distancing is an advised solution by WHO
(World Health Organization) to halt the spread of this pandemic in public
places. WHO set a 1m physical distance to limit the spread of COVID-19 [1].
Also, another research recommends the social distance to be 1.5m . In this
project, we have developed an Ultrasonic sensor based robotic car that can help
maintain social distance among people standing in queue to decrease the risk
of infection. This project helps maintain social distance in both directions
meaning Front/Back and Left/Right. The project helps in maintaining social
distance by alarming the staff using a buzzer when the distance between
people standing in a queue is not safe. It displays that either Front/Back and
Left/Right social distance between two persons is safe or dangerous on a LCD.
Also, it has a pair of green LEDs that turn on only when both Left/Right and
Front/Back social distance is safe signifying safety and it turns off in all the
other cases.
As of today a total of about 360 million people have been reported to be tested
positive for COVID-19 and about 3.5 million people have died from it [2]. This
pandemic has surely slowed down the progress in everything. The economic
and social disruption caused by this pandemic is devastating: millions of people
fell into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently
estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end
of the year [2]. So, in order to avoid getting it we need to maintain social
distance of 1m which is set by WHO [1].
After turning it on, car is connected to smartphone via Bluetooth to control
it. Then, Ultrasonic sensors start taking data and send it to Microcontroller
which then processes the data to check whether the distance is safe or not.
• 4 Ultrasonic sensors integrated on car to monitor distance.
• The Buzzer is used to alarm the staff.
• The LCD is used to display either the distance is safe or not.
• Mobile, efficient and user friendly.
• It monitors social distance to limit the spread of Covid-19.
After processing, if distance is less than 1m in any direction meaning
Front/Back and Left/Right between two persons in a queue, buzzer will be
turned on to alarm the staff and “dang” will be displayed on LCD. Otherwise,
buzzer will be off and “safe” will be displayed on LCD.
