• Definition
• The tidal force is an apparent
force that stretches a body
towards and away from the
centre of mass of another body
due to a gradient in gravitational
field from the other body.
• This happens due to inverse
square nature of gravity.

• Tide on earth happens due to strong
gravitational pull of moon.
• Earth’s gravity is a millionth time stronger
than moon.

In every 100 thousand year moon slows our
earth’s rotation by 2 Secs and drifts back by 6 cm
