2. BACKGROUND
• As per WHO estimate around 10% of all adults are
infected with curable STI(sexually transmitted
infection) each year.
• In cases where there is possibility of contracting STIs;
the possibility of contracting HIV is also very high.
Around 86% of all cases of HIV are transmitted via the
Sexual route.
• NACO data indicates that awareness about RTI/STI in
men is 53% and in women it’s 44%. Around 6% of adult
population has STI episodes each year which amounts
to 30million each year.(ICMR study,2002).
3. INTRODUCTION
• It was started in the year 1992 and has it’s
headquarters in Delhi.
• Its parent body is National Aids Control
Organization which is in turn run by the Ministry
Of Health and Family Welfare.
• Its main purpose is ‘’To provide better health care
service and for prevention of HIV/AIDS”
• Initially it was started in71 district hospitals, 10
medical colleges and 5 district female hospitals.
4. SERVICES
• Controlling pandemics of STIs like HIV, Herpes,
Gonorrhea, Syphilis etc
• Blood sample collection and reporting is done. Ideally
blood samples are to be taken at empty stomach in
half day.
• Before collection of sample proper counseling is given.
Details of the patient Viz, Age, Sex, Occupation,
Educational Qualifications, Reason of doubt etc are
noted. The details are kept extremely confidential.
• Post test results arrive the patient is counseled again.
6. URETHRAL DISCHARGE-KIT1(Grey)
• Pus or mucopurulent Discharge.
• Painful burning sensation while micturation.
• Increased frequency of urination
• Systematic symptoms like fever, malaise
• Treatment:-
Tab Azithromycin(1gm) OD stat + Tab
Cefexime 400mg OD stat.
All recent partners to be treated
7. Cervical Discharge-KIT 1(Grey)
• Nature and type of discharge to be ascertained.
• Burning micturation along with increased frequency.
• Genital complaints by sexual partners.
• Low backache.
• Rule out pregnancy by menstrual history
• TREATMENT
Tab Azithromycin(1gm) OD stat + Tab Cefexime 400mg
OD stat.
All recent partners to be treated when symptomatic
8. PAINFUL SCROTAL SWELLING(KIT1-
Grey)
• Swelling and pain in the scrotal region.
• Pain or burning while passing urine.
• Systemic features like fever and malaise.
• History of urethral discharge.
• Treatment:-
Tab Azithromycin(1gm) OD stat + Tab
Cefexime 400mg OD stat.
All recent partners to be treated
9. VAGINAL DISCHARGE-KIT2(GREEN KIT)
• Nature and type of discharge.
• Burning micturation along with increased
frequency.
• Genital complaints by sexual partners.
• Low backache.
• Rule out pregnancy by menstrual history
• TREATMENT:-
Tab Secnidazole 2gm + Cap. Fluconazole 150mg
OD Stat.
Treat partners when symptomatic
10. Genital Ulcer Non Herpetic(Kit 3-White
and Kit 4-Blue)
• Genital ulcer. Single or multiple, painful or painless.
• Burning sensation in the genital area.
• Enlarged lymph Nodes.
• KIT3/WHITE:-
Benzithine Penicillin(2.4MU)-1Vial + Tab
Azithromycin(1gm) Single dose.
KIT4/BLUE:-
If allergic to penicillin then Doxcycline 100mg
BDx15days + Azithromycin 1gm(single dose)
Treat all sexual partners for past three months
11. GENITAL ULCER HERPETIC(KIT5/RED)
• Genital ulcer or vesicles. Single or multiple,
painful recurrent.
• Burning sensation in genital area.
• KIT5/RED:-
Tab Acyclovir 400mg TDS For 7Days
No need of treating partners
12. LOWER ABDOMEN PAIN(KIT6/YELLOW)
• Lower abdomen pain with fever
• Vaginal discharge
• Menstrual irregularities like Heavy irregular vaginal
bleeding.
• Dysmenorrhoea, Dyspareunia, Dysuria and Tenesmus.
• Lower Backache
• Cervical motion tenderness.
• Treatment Kit6:-
Tab Cefexime 400mg OD stat + Tab Metronidazole BD
For 14Days + Doxcycline 100mg BD For 14days.
Treat Male partners with KIT-1
13. INGUINAL BUBO(KIT7/BLACK)
• Swelling in inguinal region which may be
painful.
• Preceding history of Genital ulcer of
Discharge.
• Systemic symptoms of malaise, fever etc.
• Treatment:-
Tab Azithromycin 1gm OD Stat + Tab
Doxycycline 100mg BD for 21 days.
14. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
• Educate and counsel the patients and sexual
partner/s regarding the dangers of Sti/Rti s
• Stress the importance of safer sex and
necessity of completion of treatment for both
client and partners.
• Advice sexual abstinence or condom use
during the course of treatment.
• Condoms to be provided. Educate clients
about correct and consistent use.
