Target Audience
The reader of “La Pop ”magazine will be aimed at a female audience, although through my
research I have found mainly male music magazines, I thought a female audience would be more
fun. The genre of which I have chosen (POP) is mainly viewed by the female gender so this is why I
have chosen to base my magazine on females. My target audience will be between the ages of 17-
24 year olds, throughout my research I found that young teenage girls were more interested into
the boys and the gossip rather than the actually music and artist, so I came to the conclusion that
it would be a good idea to base my magazine around a mid way age audience, I also looked at an
older audience of adults but found that pop was slightly too childish for them and they enjoyed
more sophisticated and mature music such as soul, indie rock and jazz, so therefore I have based
my opinion on these findings. The age range that I have chosen currently still is in education such
as studying A level courses in either sixth form or college or are still in university or just left with
their degree in the path they have chosen.

The readership will have either no marital status, will be unmarried or may be in a relationship.
They will be cheerful and quirky; they like to be very independent and try not to rely on men, they
like to live their life by their rules. Always helping others and being very outgoing, they have a
really likeable personality. The reader is an active woman who likes to keep fit, either by going for
a run or going to the gym, they also like to relax by having pampering weekends with their friends
to help them relax from any obstacles that are thrown at them. Other than being on their own
they love to be surrounded by friends whether by sharing a trip the cinema or going away on a
weekend together. The readership is happy as long as she is constantly surrounded by all her
“besties”.

My target audience has a passion for music; she loves to relax to music when she’s not busy with
work, school or friends. Her favourite genres to listen to are pop, soul and country; she likes to mix
the upbeat tempo of the pop music with the slow rhythm of soul and country. This is reflected on
her IPod that is a disorganised mix of different types of music everywhere. She loves to listen to
songs that she can relate to and that relate to her current situation in life, her idols are powerful,
feisty yet elegant female artists; artists such as Cheryl Cole, Amy Winehouse, Jessie J and The
Saturdays. She is fascinated not only by their amazing voices appeal but also their stage presence
and the way they present themselves to their fans and the public, as they are such vibrant and
confident women. She also loves the boys, although she in independent she likes the hot guys and
the boy bands such as JLS, The wanted and one direction; she loves to see posters of these hot
male artists topless. The reader of “La Pop” does not currently read any other music magazines;
she is also not one to religiously buy a magazine every week. If she likes the look of the magazine
and the magazine content then she will invest in the magazine; the type thing my target audience
will like to be include in their magazine so it appeals and draws them into buying this brand new
pop magazine.

Being such a young audience, these females can never say no to shopping, whether it’s going into
every shop and trying everything on, or maxing out their dad’s credit cards; the never miss a
invitation to go shopping. She also loves to just relax and enjoy a nice movie once in a while,
whether it’s getting out the box of tissues to a bit of Dear John or putting the popcorn in the
microwave for Bridesmaids. They love a good old movie, definitely more of the romantic love
stories and comedies than anything else. She is a completely T.V-holic she loves all of her soaps,
Hollyoaks, How I met your mother, new girl and big bang theory, she’s loves a laugh and a
programme that can make her happy or cry when someone dies.

She is not a gossip girl but this girl does love her social networking sites. From following people of
Twitter, to tagging people in pictures on Face Book, she uses them all. It’s also her way of staying
connected to her close friends and relatives. They have very good family values and morals and
they have been brought up to be well mannered and very kind hearted; they are family people
and their family always comes first, they would do anything to please and make their family
proud. My target audience would find this magazine very useful because they would be able to get
a first look at new up and coming artists before anyone else, they would also be able to keep up to
date with their favourite artists. The magazine also have a lot of offers on clothes and make-up
which will attract my target audience even more to my magazine, so they are able to stay on
trend. The chance to win some amazing things such as a holiday to new York to see Lady GaGa live
in concert, or a therapeutic day for two, to then be whisked off by a chuffer driven limo to see JLS
in the O2 arena.
