Hanna's son Tim was killed in the London Bridge attacks. She is interviewed on a morning radio show to discuss her experience and loss. During the interview, she recounts the last time she saw Tim, getting the call that he had died, and going to identify his body at the scene. She urges the government to increase security at popular locations in London to help prevent future attacks. The interviewer thanks Hanna for sharing her story.

Interviewer: Hello everyone, thanks to everyone who has tuned in today to talk about the on going attacks in London. It is a
nice sunny day and we will start the show off with the harsh topic ‘London Bridge’ attacks. I welcome on the show… Tim’s
mother, Hanna. (30 seconds)
Hanna: Hello. (2 seconds)
Interviewer: Hello Hanna, how are you? (4 seconds)
Hanna: Good at the moment, but such is life… (4 seconds)
Interview: That’s good, I’m very sorry for your loss, would you be able to discuss what happened to your son? (10 seconds)
Hanna: Well my son was very active and always wanted to be out, which didn’t effect me. But it was getting to a stage
where it was getting out of hand… (25 seconds)
Interviewer: So he would always be out with his mates rather than being at home? (15 seconds)
Hanna: Yes. (Two seconds) (break for 3 seconds)
Interviewer: All teenagers love being out but don’t know the dangers in this cruel world. (10 seconds)
Hanna: Tim was a sweet boy, aged eighteen, didn’t have a care in the world he was out with his mates at London Bridge at a
popular rave spot. He always would get drunk and get video by his friends (laughing) (20 seconds)
Interviewer: I remember my raving days but the difference to my time and this new generation is ridiculous the security was
better back then… (15 seconds)
Hanna: That is very true, Tim gave me a kiss on the cheek as I always force him and I told him ‘I love you’ for the last time
and he hugged me so tight, I jus- (20 seconds)
Interviewer: It’s okay take your time. (5 seconds)

3. Hanna: Then he left. My husband and I headed to bed to watch our favourite show Love Island on ITV as usual thinking we
would hear the door open later in the night, and Tim walking up the stairs to his bedroom. All of a sudden at twelve AM I
receive a disturbing call from his mate Bob who said “Tim is DEAD, HE’S DEAD HANNA…, A ATTACK HAS HAPPENED AND
TIM GOT CAUGHT UP AND WE FOUND HIM LAYING THERE!” I tried to respond but I starting bursting into tears. My husband
was so confused. My husband told me to calm down and that we should head to London Bridge as soon as possible.
Sometimes I feel like it was my fault. (1 minute)
Interviewer: Don’t say that it is nobodies fault honestly… That must be so tragic to go though with your only son being
taken away just like that. How was your journey when you made your way to London Bridge? (25 seconds)
Hanna: I guess so, the whole family is grieving and we are just trying to stay strong. Our journey was very hectic as we was
in shock but at the same time angry at ourselves. Why us? Why my family? We tried calling back but Bob was not answering
his phone which made me just burst in tears. My husband was teary eyed I’ve never seen him this. We arrived at London
Bridge after one hour. The traffic was horrendous the police let us through as they said they have seen Tim’s friends. (30
seconds)
Interviewer: The atmosphere there must have been so sad as on news coverage I saw huge amounts of crowds and scared
civilians. (10 seconds)
Hanna: Yes. There was huge crowds and a lot of police sirens. The police assorted me to my son who was laying right behind
a lot of police guarding the body. I was shattered I busted into tears and was screaming Tim’s name, my husband held me
back so I didn’t cause a scene. (20 seconds)
Interviewer: I’m so sorry for your loss, what do you think the government should improve in on these type of attacks
around London? (15 seconds)
Hanna: They should include more security in the UK. I know a lot of acts have been happening but it is not acceptable. They
know London Bridge is a popular place to be why shouldn’t the security be checked or looked at monthly? There is a lot of
attractions in London which need to be checked over and need higher security. (25 seconds)
Interviewer: Thank you Hanna. I appreciate you being on the Morning News Show. All of the team are very sorry for your

4. Equipment list
• I will be using a mic so the viewers can hear the interviewer and whoever is talking on my radio show
Editing equipment:
• The transmitter is the key component to any radio broadcast. It takes your broadcast signal, encodes it,
and transmits as radio waves that can be picked up by any receiver. There are several different types of
Radio Transmitters available from Progressive Concepts. There are large FM Transmitters for full power
Radio Stations and there are medium to low power FM Transmitters such as those used on LPFM radio
stations.
• I will use a receiver as it picks up the encoded broadcast signal, decodes it, and allows for you to hear it. It
is the what allow your radio set to pick up signals for playback.
• The audio processor improves and optimizes the sound quality. There are a variety of audio processors
available from Progressive Concepts. Most are stand alone processors which are connected to the FM
transmitter. This component can be replaced by software on computer-based radio broadcasts.
• Audio cables link various components of your broadcast studio to each other, allowing your signal to flow
from one piece of equipment to another.
• Monitor speakers will be required to hear the contents of my broadcast. It is recommended that speakers
designed for music studios be used, as they can give you the most accurate representation of the signal.
• A mixer allows the operator to combine multiple audio signals and control various aspects of how they
sound, including level and equalization.
• I will also try to use a antenna as it sends and receives radio signals. Progressive Concepts can help you
determine which FM Antenna is best for your particular application.
• I will include headphones so the background noise is not included and that the person I am interviewing
can hear me clearly
• I will also use a voice recorder so the segment is clear, also I will make sure I do a sound check so the
levelling of the dialogue is at a good standard.

5. Recording schedule
• My recording schedule is going to be Thursday the 22nd
of June. The
interview will be done in the morning. I am going to do my interview
in the morning as I will get to have a chance to look over it and see if
the sound is at a good level. I will also get to do a quick sound check
and I would be able to check the equipment. I will make sure I prep
who I am interviewing so they know what to say and to make sure
they follow their script to make the segment flow and that it comes
across as a real morning radio stations.

6. Sound checks, e.g. interior, exterior,
setting of recording levels
• In the morning I will make sure I do various sound checks so the mics are
working well and are not distorted. I will do a test run and speak into the
recorder so I know it is not over the peak level. I will then listen to my
recordings to make sure the sound of the dialogue is at a good standard and
is clear. This will help me know how to much space I will need from my
microphone.
• Interior: I will make sure I am in a quiet environment so no background
noises get included in the recording. I will also record in a small room so
there is less time for the sounds to hit the hard objects (the walls) which will
make sure no ecos are included in the segment.
• Exterior: I will not be recording outside due to the noise. If I do I will use a
wind cover so no wind gets included in my interview. This will make sure the
wind does not interrupt me or whoever I am interviewing.
• Setting of recording levels: The settings will be a little bit enhanced at the
start and the end as there is the intro and outro theme music. However
when the interview commences the level will be normal and at a good pace
so the listeners understand well.

7. Copyright clearances (where appropriate
for music)
• I will request copy right clearance to artists as it is copyright. So I will
have to get permissions from artists. I will have to result in using a
music free website to source music if it does not go to plan.
• For example there are various music websites such as premium
music which lets you download any music as you want without
breaking the copyright rules. My audience may be influenced and
may want popular music included in my radio interview.
• I will either use instrumentals to avoid getting copyright from artists
and brands.
• I could also use friends who sing or make their own music.

8. Health and safety risk assessment
• I will make sure the weather conditions is good as rain may damage
equipment such as mics, headphones etc. It all depends on the
location. I will most likely use the studio so we get a clear hearing of
the interview. There will be a health and safety check in the room
before the interview can take place.
• I will make sure to get appropriate permissions from staff and maybe
a member of staff overlooking our radio segment
• I will make sure whoever is taking part does not touch any
equipment as it is expensive
• I will make sure whoever takes part signs a slip of confirming to take
part
• Some could trip over wires/cables, I will make sure the area is clear

9. Booking forms for equipment and editing
space
The editing space is available to all media students. This will make it
easier for me to edit my radio interview. It will also allow me to
include my intro and outros. The editing space also has mac computers
which has the software Logic Pro which is good for editing sound. This
is why I will not need to book as we usually have lessons in there.
Unless the editing suite is either in use or someone is using the
computer I used.
I will book equipment such as the mics, recorders, etc. from the
technicians they will make sure I have all equipment needed.
I will also need to ask media staff or my teacher to open the recording
suit to record as we can not record without permission.

10. On the booking sheet we have to write down our name, student number, the equipment we are using such as
mics, recorders etc. We have a date of when we took the equipment and when we gave back the equipment.
Also there is a signature from the media staff to confirm the equipment being used.
