Radio Programme Evaluation
In this piece of work I will be evaluating my radio programme. I will be talking about my
strengths and weaknesses in the programme. I will also talk about some of the conventions I
used and how I used them to fit in with the target audience I was aiming at.
I decided to use jingles of music that my target audience would like and enjoy for example I
knew a lot of people in my age group won’t listen to jazz therefore I knew using a jazz jingle
wouldn’t fit in with the target audience. I decided to use a remix of a famous musician a lot
of people in my age group listen to and like.
My target audience also influenced my planning when thinking about the type of language I
used in my programme. I decided to use language that everyone would understand for
example I didn’t want to use a posh voice as it wouldn’t fit in with the target audience but I
also didn’t want to use slang words because a lot of people wouldn’t understand what was
being said so I decided it should be all natural.
When cutting between presenters I decided to use jingles. I did this because if there was just
talking all the way it would bore people out and they wouldn’t enjoy it. I used the same
jingle all way round.
We used capacitor mics when recording inside. When we went out of the studio to record
we used a mobile recording mp3 recorder. We used this because it was portable and easy to
carry around and record the information we needed. We used reason to create our radio
programme.
When editing we changed the volumes for example the jingle at the start we reduced the
volume when the presenter started speaking so you could be able to hear him. When the
presenter was nearly finished we started to fade out so it would not just be a dead end and
also when someone was going to speak we faded in the volume so it wouldn’t just sound
like the presenter jumped in because of this the radio programme flows smoothly. The
quality of the recordings was good so it sounds professional. I also used the equalizer effect
to make the quality sound better. I used the compressor so all of the volume was the same
not someone shouting and the other you can barely hear.
Overall I think I achieved the brief I tried to make it appealing as much as I could by using
the type of language they use and also the sort of music they are into. The programme could
have been better if we had professional presenters as we were not use to presenting a radio
programme. It also could have been better if we had better recording technology for when
we left the studio but could not do so as we were in school.
