2. CONNECTIVITY
My understanding of connectivity throughout media is staying social
with friends and family. Also connecting through devices such as your
typical phone, tablets, laptops etc. Connectivity can consist of apps that
you use to stay connected to friends and family such as your typical
calls, imessage, snapchat, Facebook etc.
3. WHAT ARE FACEBOOK ZERO AND WIKIPEDIA ZERO, AND
HOW DO THESE WORK? WHY ARE THESE THOUGHT TO BE
GOOD FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES?
Facebook Zero is a company which was launched in 2010, it was strictly
text-only based, Mark Zuckerberg wanted to spread his social network.
In 18 months his network increased in Africa by 114%, He made
businesses increase too
Facebook zero is a organisation that doesn’t need data to access and
use when you are out somewhere. Which is useful as every contract and
app nowadays consists of data for you to use when not using your own
Wi-Fi. These are good for developing countries as they usually don’t
have access to internet in some parts so the fact that it is data free
makes the organisation even more reliable
4. WHAT OTHER INITIATIVES ARE TAKING PLACE IN
DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GET
ONLINE?
Initiatives are taking place in countries such as Africa, India, etc. They wanted to
make more people connect and also want the developing countries to also get
involved and to take part in the running projects at the time
Groundscore is testing a new platform where the public can get their voices heard,
this encourages the public to get involved and to connect. Mark Zuckerberg wanted
to raise the percentage of how much women use the internet in India, As only 30%
use the internet, he encouraged and made a step by step website for the public to
learn how to use the internet
He done this to spread awareness to not only India but also developing countries as
well
In Kenya he made Wikipedia Zero which made the public have access to search the
Wikipedia, after three months they are left to decide to expand their service.
5. DO YOU AGREE WITH ZUCKERBERG'S VIEW
THAT CONNECTIVITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT?
I agree to an extent as it is impossible nowadays to not be connected to
friends and family on a daily basis through social media
In my opinion I think it will become a basic human right in years to
come as everyone in todays society uses technology, also technology is
getting advanced every year
It is compulsory to connect in society as it is also used through not only
social media but work too, businesses, brands, advertisement etc.
6. HOW DOES YOUR INTERNET BEHAVIOUR DIFFER FROM FIVE YEARS AGO?
MANY PEOPLE NOW TURN TO THE WEB FOR INFORMATION ON KEY
SERVICES – ARE YOU AMONG THEM?
My internet behaviour has changed from how it was five years ago as back then
we didn’t have as much advanced ways to access information from the internet
Five years ago iPhone wasn’t as popular as in 2016 the internet was building up
from general email sites such as, A popular messaging/email site called MSN , it
was used frequently five years go
I owned a blackberry phone at the time, my friends did to in school as at the time
it was very popular device, it wasn’t as advanced as IPhone but it had a smaller
selection of apps such as BBM, Facebook, games etc.
I turn to the web for information on a daily basis for college assignments e.g.
Wikipedia, and in general if I want to find out something
