1. Mark Zuckerberg says connectivity
is a basic human right – do you
agree?
By Haseeb Patel
2. What is your understanding of the
term “connectivity”?
• My understanding of the term ‘connectivity’ is when two
devices are connected together for example the use of
Bluetooth. The use of connecting a phone to another phone.
Or perhaps connecting a phone to a smart TV. Connectivity
can also involve things like texting one another as it is a use of
connectivity due to communication from one phone to the
other.
3. What are Facebook Zero and Wikipedia Zero, and how do these work? Why
are these thought to be good for developing countries?
• Facebook Zero is like Facebook but it is only for like texting
your friends. Facebook Zero in todays day and age is called
Messenger. Wikipedia Zero is similar to Facebook Zero but
because it involves the term ‘Zero,’ It means that it can be
both used through free data. These types of things are good
for developing countries as there could be poor connection
depending on what country it is so free data allows people to
communicate with their friends.
4. What other initiatives are taking place in developing
countries, to encourage people to get online?
• Other initiatives to encourage people to get online data could
be that they might not have the funds to pay for the internet
connection so therefore with the use of Facebook and
Wikipedia Zero. Some people have the rights to communicate
with people from other countries perhap.
5. Do you agree with Zuckerberg's view that connectivity
is a human right?
• I agree with Zuckerberg’s view that connectivity is a humans
right in many different ways for example, the use of
communicating with other people is controlled by humans.
Also the use of connectivity is a user generated content as it is
the human itself who is in control of what he is texting and
creating for example snapchat, Creating a video and sending it
to someone is human controlled which involves connectivity.
6. How does your internet behaviour differ from five years ago? Many people
now turn to the web for information on key services – are you among them?
• My internet behaviour has increase from five years ago as the
technology has rised. Five years ago the news was more read
on the newspaper. Now with the use of the internet and
through social media. Many young people are able to see the
news this way. It helps a lot as many young adult do not like to
read newspapers but would prefer to read through a phone.
The only disadvantage to this is that it can hurt the persons
eyes due to looking at a small screen for so long. However it is
more effective to use technology for things that would make
our lives more easier.
