The girls at St. John’s are dedicated to Netball; they are passionate about playing well and winning.
The girls train on a weekly basis during prep time and many of the girls have been continuing this
training during P.E. lessons. This term they have focused on a range of skills including, passing,
footwork, shooting, attacking and defending play.
The F2 and F3 team had their first fixture at home this
term against St. John’s C of E School, the final score was 3
– 1. It was a great win for the girls. A special well done
goes to Holly (F3) for her outstanding shooting and provid-
ing goal shooting opportunities and Hayley (F3) for her
fantastic defending skills and passing play. Next term, the
girls have fixtures lined up with both independent and state
schools. The girls are very excited to be involved in the
inaugural St John’s U11’s Netball Tournament, which will
take place in March on our excellent new ‘tiger turf’ Net-
ball Courts.
The Football squad have been training on a
Thursday night at the Senior School this
term and have been competing against a
number of other schools. All pupils have
been working hard to improve their posi-
tional play and individual skills. The F1 and
F2 boys have risen to the challenge and can
now play comfortably alongside the F3s. The
future looks good for St. John’s as these
young players will be playing together for a
few more years to come.
The team has performed extremely well this
term with two massive wins and a fantastic
effort in the Enfield F.A. Tournament where
we won one, drew two and lost one, only
conceding one goal in the whole tourna-
ment.
The pick of the victories came against Sher-
rardswood (8 – 0) and St. John’s C of E Pri-
mary School (6 – 2). Jonathan Bailey scoring
a hat trick in one and Sean Kanu scoring a
hat trick against both.
The team has also been led extremely well
by our captain and top defender, Hakan
Aknar who has displayed great strength and
determination in defending our goal and
helping lead us to victory.
TOP THREE RESULTS
V Sherrardswood WON 8-0
V St. John’s C of E WON 6-2

Competing in his first major tennis tournament at orange level, Jason Obiamime (F1)
finished first and won the county tournament, in Finchley, North London, on 29th
September 2013. Jason was playing some of the best 8/9 year olds David Lloyds has
produced. Jason won the tournament without losing a set. The next stage for Jason is
the David Lloyd regional tournament. A future Wimbledon star in the making!

CADET CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2013
In June, the School Football Squad will be travelling to Spain to help with
their football development. The Squad will take part in a Malaga CF Foot-
ball Development Programme and will train at the resort complex just
outside Marbella.
We will be staying at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort, which is located
in the very heart of the Costa del Sol of Andalucía, between Estepona and
Marbella, and right next to the sea. This beach resort complex has the
most comprehensive range of sports facilities on the Costa del Sol and
features; two 18-hole golf courses, 6 swimming pools, health club, 9 ten-
nis courts, nautical sports centre, 2 natural grass football pitches, beach
volleyball courts and golf driving range.
Many football teams including the Nigerian national team, Spanish Premier
Division Clubs and others from all over Europe have undertaken their pre
-season or mid-season training camp at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort.
In addition, during the day out to visit the home stadium of Malaga, coach-
ing sessions will be held at the old first team training pitch adjacent to the
stadium.
We hope this will help develop the boys Footballing skills and help lead
both the players and the school to future success!
Reece (F1) started Go-Karting at a young age; he has now been Go-Karting competi-
tively for 2 years and really enjoys it. Reece was introduced to karting when his father
took him to a race school where he learnt basic kart wheel control, he also went to
cadet club. When Reece was 8 years old he decided he wanted to try racing; he had to
pass a test known as the Arks Test to get his licence. This involved learning about safe-
ty on the track. What the various flags meant and how you would respond. Once
Reece had achieved this he was entered in the Cadet Club Championship. In his first
competition he came 8th
out of 16 drivers. Reece realised how much he wanted to win.
He has now competed numerous times during the season, being on the podium in 8 of
them and 1st
four times. These results led him to be the overall Champion of the sea-
son, 3 points ahead of 2nd
place. One day Reece hopes to be a professional driver and
become a F1 driver.

Inter-house Netball and Football Tournaments
The Inter-house Football and Netball tournament for all F1, F2 and F3 pupils took place just before the Christmas break. All
four houses competed against one another for the prestigious House Trophy.
In the Football, Water Rats came out on top, winning all three of their games. Jacob Haynes was the star performer with three
goals in the tournament. In Netball, Moles were the overall winners of Inter-House this term, winning all three games, a spe-
cial well done goes to Rachel and Serena for their outstanding shooting on the Moles team.

This term in P.E. the pupils have carried out a
gymnastics scheme of work . By the end of the
scheme pupils aimed to create a 10 part sequence
including, individual balances, partner balances,
rolls, jumps and rotations. Pupils were assessed
against a criteria; the pupils needed to consider
their body tension, extension of limbs, fluency of
movement, atheistically pleasing movements and
timing when working with peers. Pupils demon-
strated their creative side, by planning and carry-
ing out their own ideas. At the end of the scheme
of work pupils performed their routines in front
of the class.
As a reward for all their hard work, the pupils
were treated to a session using apparatus such as
climbing bars, ropes, springboard and the vault.
During this session the pupils performed some
spectacular jumps and shapes.

The girls train on a weekly basis during prep time and many of the girls have been continuing this training during P.E. lessons. This term they have focused on a range of skills including, passing, footwork, shooting, attacking and defending play. The F2 and F3 team had their first fixture at home this term against St. John’s C of E School, the final score was 3 – 1. It was a great win for the girls. A special well done goes to Holly (F3) for her outstanding shooting and provid- ing goal shooting opportunities and Hayley (F3) for her fantastic defending skills and passing play. Next term, the girls have fixtures lined up with both independent and state schools. The girls are very excited to be involved in the inaugural St John’s U11’s Netball Tournament, which will take place in March on our excellent new ‘tiger turf’ Net- ball Courts. The Football squad have been training on a Thursday night at the Senior School this term and have been competing against a number of other schools. All pupils have been working hard to improve their posi- tional play and individual skills. The F1 and F2 boys have risen to the challenge and can now play comfortably alongside the F3s. The future looks good for St. John’s as these young players will be playing together for a few more years to come. The team has performed extremely well this term with two massive wins and a fantastic effort in the Enfield F.A. Tournament where we won one, drew two and lost one, only conceding one goal in the whole tourna- ment. The pick of the victories came against Sher- rardswood (8 – 0) and St. John’s C of E Pri- mary School (6 – 2). Jonathan Bailey scoring a hat trick in one and Sean Kanu scoring a hat trick against both. The team has also been led extremely well by our captain and top defender, Hakan Aknar who has displayed great strength and determination in defending our goal and helping lead us to victory. TOP THREE RESULTS V Sherrardswood WON 8-0 V St. John’s C of E WON 6-2 V Chesterfield WON 1-0
  • 2. Sports Newsletter Football Tour St. John’s Superstars Competing in his first major tennis tournament at orange level, Jason Obiamime (F1) finished first and won the county tournament, in Finchley, North London, on 29th September 2013. Jason was playing some of the best 8/9 year olds David Lloyds has produced. Jason won the tournament without losing a set. The next stage for Jason is the David Lloyd regional tournament. A future Wimbledon star in the making! DAVID LLOYD CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013 CADET CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 In June, the School Football Squad will be travelling to Spain to help with their football development. The Squad will take part in a Malaga CF Foot- ball Development Programme and will train at the resort complex just outside Marbella. We will be staying at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort, which is located in the very heart of the Costa del Sol of Andalucía, between Estepona and Marbella, and right next to the sea. This beach resort complex has the most comprehensive range of sports facilities on the Costa del Sol and features; two 18-hole golf courses, 6 swimming pools, health club, 9 ten- nis courts, nautical sports centre, 2 natural grass football pitches, beach volleyball courts and golf driving range. Many football teams including the Nigerian national team, Spanish Premier Division Clubs and others from all over Europe have undertaken their pre -season or mid-season training camp at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort. In addition, during the day out to visit the home stadium of Malaga, coach- ing sessions will be held at the old first team training pitch adjacent to the stadium. We hope this will help develop the boys Footballing skills and help lead both the players and the school to future success! Reece (F1) started Go-Karting at a young age; he has now been Go-Karting competi- tively for 2 years and really enjoys it. Reece was introduced to karting when his father took him to a race school where he learnt basic kart wheel control, he also went to cadet club. When Reece was 8 years old he decided he wanted to try racing; he had to pass a test known as the Arks Test to get his licence. This involved learning about safe- ty on the track. What the various flags meant and how you would respond. Once Reece had achieved this he was entered in the Cadet Club Championship. In his first competition he came 8th out of 16 drivers. Reece realised how much he wanted to win. He has now competed numerous times during the season, being on the podium in 8 of them and 1st four times. These results led him to be the overall Champion of the sea- son, 3 points ahead of 2nd place. One day Reece hopes to be a professional driver and become a F1 driver.
