HOOVER, Ala. – Mississippi
State may have underachieved
during the regular season after
being ranked as high as No. 2 in
the preseason.
But the Bulldogs have been
far from a disappointment.
MSU (35-20) sported a 18-12
record in conference play show-
ing a two-game improvement
from 2013 and finished a game
out of first place in the SEC
West. The Diamond Dogs
ended the regular season by
winning 13 of its final 18 games
and four of their final five series
including road sweeps at Mis-
souri and Auburn.
“We’ve had a good SEC sea-
son this year going into the
tournament,” MSU second
baseman Brett Pirtle said earlier
this week, as his team prepared
for the SEC tourney. “We just
need to keep that momentum

for 2018 Super Bowl

will host the 2018 Super
Bowl after a vote by NFL
owners on Tuesday re-
warded the city for its new
stadium deal.
The own-

championship over New
Orleans and Indianapolis.

Benson, 86, fell as he left

Brooks

and is among the team ca-
reer leader in touchdown

yardage (19,156, third).
Carney spent eight sea-
sons (2001-06, 09-10) with
the Saints in a 23-year NFL
career. He’s one of seven
players to score more than
2,000 career points.
