Skiing Trip
Back in January 27 F3 and 1st Form boys and girls accompanied Mrs Tardios, Mr Tardios Junior, Mrs Farringdon, Mrs Wright, Miss Cullen and Miss
Foley to Morzine in the French Alps. We went for seven days, flying into Geneva airport and travelling by coach to the hotel, set in a picturesque
village, covered in winter snow. All pupils skied with great control with only a few falls and no injuries. Even Miss Cullen fell over!
Each pupils at the end of the skiing trip achieved a skiing award, a badge and a booklet which can be updated as they develop their skiing
ability. Special mention must go to Zac Richter for achieving a special gold award as he had already be awarded with all the rest.
As well as practicing their skiing, the pupils had a opportunity to watch the ski instructors showing why they are instructions with their
amazing skiing skills and looking at how skiing has developed throughout the ages. The pupils also got to try a variety of different food and swim in
the indoor/outdoor pool. Overall the trip was a great success, with all pupils and teachers enjoying the experience..

Sainsbury's Vouchers
Date to Remember
Sports Day: Friday 22nd June
We are collecting Sainsbury’s vouchers again this year, so far we have collected 2302 vouchers but to get all the equipment that we would like
to get for P.E lessons and summer break time and lunchtime games we need to collect just over 18,000. So please, please collect our vouchers
and send them into the school.
Last year we collected enough vouchers for 20 tennis rackets and balls, rounders bats, netball bibs, jump sacks, for the sack race on
sports day, standing long jump mat plus many more.

Netball
This term the Netball girls have been working extremely hard at Netball practice. They have been training twice a week getting ready for two
tournaments and two netball matches. This training as paid off as the girls have performed brilliantly.
Their first game back after the Christmas holidays was against Salcombe. This match was held at Salcombe School, the team played four
five minutes. All girls played very well as a team and put into practice what they had learnt. St. John’s won the match 9 - 3. Particular mention must
go to Millie George for her amazing shooting skills, getting goals in from near the edge of the shooting circle.
After this high we went on the play the senior school girls in a friendly match. We played very well again but the senior school team
piped us to the winning position, beating us by 7 goals to 5. We went away from the game with a few areas to work on.
We were entered into our first of two tournaments, tournaments which we had never entered before. The first was the High 5’s tour-
nament, it is different from normal netball as there are 5 players on court instead of 7. The girls had to work harder, moving around the court and
playing in different positions. There were 22 teams entered into the tournament which were spilt into seven leagues. St. John’s pupils were put
into league three and played two games. Our first game was against Lavender School, we beat them 2 - 0. Our second game was against Honilands
which we drew against 1 - 1. To make it through to the next round we needed Lavender to beat Honilands or Honilands to win by only 2 goals.
All the girls, parents and Miss Cullen and Mr Russell watched match with great
anticipation. Honilands beat Lavender 5 - 3! We still had a chance to go through but unfortu-
nately as Honilands scored more goals than we did they went through. The girls were disap-
pointed but were more determined than ever to win again. It was only a week away until out
next tournament.
We went to the tournament, we played 4 games, winning 3, beating Lyonsdown 4 -
1, Sacred Heart 3 - 1 and Salcombe 4 - 2, we lost one game but we were through to the
finals. All girls played their best but where beaten 5 - 2 to Vita et Pax.
As well as the F3 and F2 team, Miss Cullen also runs a F2 and F1 club. This is to
develop the younger girls coming up through the years, ready for the further
team. They have been working hard on all the different netball skills. Some hope-
fully their face will be smiling in further newsletters.

were divided into 2 different relays, the woggle relay and treasure island

What we have been working on
Cricket
This term Prep. 1 have been working on their target practise, which involved a lot of rolling and throwing objects at a specific area
and also hitting the ball with a racket. After the half term the pupils have been working on their balance, balancing on different widths and
moving over equipment without falling over or knocking the equipment..
Prep 2 have been working on different types of movement within sport, introducing group performance and imagination building
and in addition, they have also been working on their gymnastics. Pupils have learnt the basic shapes and a variety of rolls. The pupils are also
introduced to performing in front of their peers and explaining ways to improve performances.
The rest of the school have been working on fitness from Christmas up until the half term,, working on improving their fitness
through a variety of different tests, such as the bleep test, Illinois agility test and even their flexibility and balance. After the half term until
Easter everyone has been working on Tennis, practising their movement around the court and developing their forehand and back hand
shots, working both with and against a partner.

  • 8. Sports Netball This term the Netball girls have been working extremely hard at Netball practice. They have been training twice a week getting ready for two tournaments and two netball matches. This training as paid off as the girls have performed brilliantly. Their first game back after the Christmas holidays was against Salcombe. This match was held at Salcombe School, the team played four five minutes. All girls played very well as a team and put into practice what they had learnt. St. John’s won the match 9 - 3. Particular mention must go to Millie George for her amazing shooting skills, getting goals in from near the edge of the shooting circle. After this high we went on the play the senior school girls in a friendly match. We played very well again but the senior school team piped us to the winning position, beating us by 7 goals to 5. We went away from the game with a few areas to work on. We were entered into our first of two tournaments, tournaments which we had never entered before. The first was the High 5’s tour- nament, it is different from normal netball as there are 5 players on court instead of 7. The girls had to work harder, moving around the court and playing in different positions. There were 22 teams entered into the tournament which were spilt into seven leagues. St. John’s pupils were put into league three and played two games. Our first game was against Lavender School, we beat them 2 - 0. Our second game was against Honilands which we drew against 1 - 1. To make it through to the next round we needed Lavender to beat Honilands or Honilands to win by only 2 goals. All the girls, parents and Miss Cullen and Mr Russell watched match with great anticipation. Honilands beat Lavender 5 - 3! We still had a chance to go through but unfortu- nately as Honilands scored more goals than we did they went through. The girls were disap- pointed but were more determined than ever to win again. It was only a week away until out next tournament. We went to the tournament, we played 4 games, winning 3, beating Lyonsdown 4 - 1, Sacred Heart 3 - 1 and Salcombe 4 - 2, we lost one game but we were through to the finals. All girls played their best but where beaten 5 - 2 to Vita et Pax. As well as the F3 and F2 team, Miss Cullen also runs a F2 and F1 club. This is to develop the younger girls coming up through the years, ready for the further team. They have been working hard on all the different netball skills. Some hope- fully their face will be smiling in further newsletters. • 9. Football What we have been working on Cricket This term Prep. 1 have been working on their target practise, which involved a lot of rolling and throwing objects at a specific area and also hitting the ball with a racket. After the half term the pupils have been working on their balance, balancing on different widths and moving over equipment without falling over or knocking the equipment.. Prep 2 have been working on different types of movement within sport, introducing group performance and imagination building and in addition, they have also been working on their gymnastics. Pupils have learnt the basic shapes and a variety of rolls. The pupils are also introduced to performing in front of their peers and explaining ways to improve performances. The rest of the school have been working on fitness from Christmas up until the half term,, working on improving their fitness through a variety of different tests, such as the bleep test, Illinois agility test and even their flexibility and balance. After the half term until Easter everyone has been working on Tennis, practising their movement around the court and developing their forehand and back hand shots, working both with and against a partner.
