The Netball team train on a Monday lunchtime and during Tuesday Prep. All the girls have been
training very hard and their efforts have paid off with great success. We have also been fortunate to in-
troduce a F2 Netball team and like the other team they too have shown great success.
The main team have played three matches this term, winning two beating Stormont 10-0
and Vita Et Pax 8-2. They also drew against Grange Park Prep. 6 all. The F2 team also won against Stor-
mont, scoring their last goal with 10 seconds to go, winning 3-2, a very close and exciting game. The F2
team consists of Rachel Hill, Sarina Seth, Aileen Ajibade, Lily Harbron, Holly White, Haley Danso and
Olivia George.
The girls also looked every bit the professional team wearing their new black and red netball
dresses. Miss Cullen is very proud of all the
players and hopes their Netball skills contin-
ue to improve, ready for the next term!

The Football squad train on a Monday night at the Senior School with Mr. Hodgson. All pupils
have been working hard to improve their positional play and individual skills. The F1 and F2 boys have
risen to the challenge and can play at the level of the F3s. The future looks good for St. John’s as these
young players will be playing together for a few more years.
The team narrowly lost a game to Vita et Pax 0-1 but came back with a great result against Sher-
rardswood winning 4-3. Joshua Cohen and Tolani Odetoyinbo scored two goals each. The boys look
good in their new kits and we look forward to more matches in the new year when the pitches dry out.
Keep up the hard work and always remember that
fitness is the key to success.

Paralympics
On Monday 3rd September Miss Cullen and Mr. Russell took five
pupils to the Paralympics to watch the Athletics at Strafford. We were very
fortunate to take part in this amazing event and the whole day was a great
success.
We must thank Enfield Council and the hard work of the P.E. Team
and Mr. Petrou for organising and arranging the day, which went very
smoothly. All the volunteers were very welcoming and knowledgeable.
The pupils enjoyed the day and had a once in a life time opportunity
to witness professional athletes competing at the highest level.
The teachers and pupils watched a variety of events, both track and
field, ranging from the long jump, to shot putt and wheel chair 100 meters to
800 meters. We all got involved and the stadium, which was full to the brim
and had an amazing atmosphere, managed to join in, in a Mexican wave!

On a very dry and sunny Wednesday in the middle of November St.
John’s pupils took part in their annual Cross Country Competition. This competi-
tion was held at the Senior School, where pupils had to run around the school
grounds. The competitors comprised of all the Upper Transitus, F1, F2 and F3 pu-
pils. The pupils had practised the course during their Games lessons and also during
their Fitness Club where pupils practised cross country and endurance running.
Every competitor received a well done sticker, with the top three girls
and boys in each year group receiving a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place sticker. Well done to
all competitors.

On a Tuesday in prep time
pupils from F1 to F3 attend a cricket
skills session with Mr. Russell.
The pupils work on their
batting, bowling and fielding skills.
The pupils enjoy the session
immensely and have been progressing
well. This will help them towards
representing the school team in the
summer against other schools.
On a Thursday in prep time pupils from Upper Transitus
attend a football skills session with Mr. Russell.
The pupils work on dribbling, passing, control, shooting
and tactical awareness and end the session with a fun game.
The pupils enjoy the session and are very enthusiastic to
play competitive games between themselves. They have been pro-
gressing at a good rate. This will help
them towards representing the school
team in future years and playing inter-
house football next year.

This term Prep. 1 have been working on lots of different core skills such as, throwing and catching using different objects, move-
ment, running, skipping and using their imaginations to move like animals. They have also been practising their jumps, hopping and star
jumps . Prep 2 have been working on their sport specific skills, such as throwing and catching, dribbling a ball, throwing a ball at a target and
in addition, they have also been working on rules and instructions, which relate to Sports and Health and Safety within Sport.
The rest of the school have been working on Football (for the boys) and Netball (for the girls) from the start of the school year
until the half term. After the half term until Christmas everyone has been working on Gymnastics, practising their basic shapes and develop-
ing their forwards rolls, shoulder stands and jumps and performing these in a sequence.
Inter-house Netball and Football Tournaments
For the first time, St. John’s held its Inter-house Football and Netball tournament for all F1, F2 and F3 pupils. The qualifying stages
took place during the lunchtimes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on the week commencing 22nd October.
During these stages all houses played each other in a round robin style tournament. Houses received three points for a win, two
points for a draw and one point for a loss. All their scores were added together and depending on their total score, it was decided which
two teams would play for 1st and 2nd place and which two teams would play for 3rd and 4th place.
The finals were played on Thursday during a Games lesson, with all pupils driven up to the Senior School Sports Hall to support
their teams. We held the 3rd and 4th place matches first followed by the 1st and 2nd match.
All competitors received 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Well done stickers and the winning houses received a very large trophy, which will be
presented to the Sports Captain at next year’s Speech Day.

Sports Hall Athletics
On Tuesday 27th November pupils represented St. John’s at the indoor Sport Hall Athletics Competition. For those of you that
have not heard about Sports Hall Athletics, it is a competition which is held in the Winter months, inside when the weather is too cold to
compete outside. It comprises of events, which simulate events in athletics but some have been altered to best suit an indoor area. Instead
of long jump for example there is standing long jump and running races, which use boards against the wall to ensure that the pupils run a
correct distance. There are also additional events such as speed bounce and chest push.
All pupils were entered into a maximum of two track and two field events. We have had great success in the running relays, win-
ning the girls’ Obstacle Relay, 1 lap relay and 2 lap relay and the boys winning the 1 lap relay. It was a team event but unfortunately, even
after all of our wins we did not win overall. The pupils, should however, be very proud of their performances. Well done to all competitors.
The participants were:
Boys: Girls:
Deniz Ucur, Jed Dhillon Emily Woodham Holly White
Shivansh Prasad, Tolani Odetoyinbo Olivia George Madison Bernardo
Tony Dinh Harry Proffitt Aileen Ajibade Katherine McKenzie
Rhys Winterhalder Jacob Haynes Haley Danso
Please note that due to the fact that we have changed from ASA swimming stages to School Swimming levels, pupils are still working towards
their levels and will receive their certificates by Easter.

All the girls have been training very hard and their efforts have paid off with great success. We have also been fortunate to in- troduce a F2 Netball team and like the other team they too have shown great success. The main team have played three matches this term, winning two beating Stormont 10-0 and Vita Et Pax 8-2. They also drew against Grange Park Prep. 6 all. The F2 team also won against Stor- mont, scoring their last goal with 10 seconds to go, winning 3-2, a very close and exciting game. The F2 team consists of Rachel Hill, Sarina Seth, Aileen Ajibade, Lily Harbron, Holly White, Haley Danso and Olivia George. The girls also looked every bit the professional team wearing their new black and red netball dresses. Miss Cullen is very proud of all the players and hopes their Netball skills contin- ue to improve, ready for the next term! Wins/Draws St. John’s 10 - 0 Stormont St. John’s 8 - 2 Vita Et Pax St. John’s 3 - 2 Stormont St. John’s 6 - 6 Grange Park The Football squad train on a Monday night at the Senior School with Mr. Hodgson. All pupils have been working hard to improve their positional play and individual skills. The F1 and F2 boys have risen to the challenge and can play at the level of the F3s. The future looks good for St. John’s as these young players will be playing together for a few more years. The team narrowly lost a game to Vita et Pax 0-1 but came back with a great result against Sher- rardswood winning 4-3. Joshua Cohen and Tolani Odetoyinbo scored two goals each. The boys look good in their new kits and we look forward to more matches in the new year when the pitches dry out. Keep up the hard work and always remember that fitness is the key to success. • 2. Cross Country Sports Newsletter Cricket and Football Paralympics On Monday 3rd September Miss Cullen and Mr. Russell took five pupils to the Paralympics to watch the Athletics at Strafford. We were very fortunate to take part in this amazing event and the whole day was a great success. We must thank Enfield Council and the hard work of the P.E. Team and Mr. Petrou for organising and arranging the day, which went very smoothly. All the volunteers were very welcoming and knowledgeable. The pupils enjoyed the day and had a once in a life time opportunity to witness professional athletes competing at the highest level. The teachers and pupils watched a variety of events, both track and field, ranging from the long jump, to shot putt and wheel chair 100 meters to 800 meters. We all got involved and the stadium, which was full to the brim and had an amazing atmosphere, managed to join in, in a Mexican wave! Picture: Pupils: Emily Woodham, Adaeze Akande, Gianni Boggia-Vincent, Ted Pini. Millie Abraham. Teachers: Mr. Russell and Miss Cullen. On a very dry and sunny Wednesday in the middle of November St. John’s pupils took part in their annual Cross Country Competition. This competi- tion was held at the Senior School, where pupils had to run around the school grounds. The competitors comprised of all the Upper Transitus, F1, F2 and F3 pu- pils. The pupils had practised the course during their Games lessons and also during their Fitness Club where pupils practised cross country and endurance running. Every competitor received a well done sticker, with the top three girls and boys in each year group receiving a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place sticker. Well done to all competitors. On a Tuesday in prep time pupils from F1 to F3 attend a cricket skills session with Mr. Russell. The pupils work on their batting, bowling and fielding skills. The pupils enjoy the session immensely and have been progressing well. This will help them towards representing the school team in the summer against other schools. On a Thursday in prep time pupils from Upper Transitus attend a football skills session with Mr. Russell. The pupils work on dribbling, passing, control, shooting and tactical awareness and end the session with a fun game. The pupils enjoy the session and are very enthusiastic to play competitive games between themselves. They have been pro- gressing at a good rate. This will help them towards representing the school team in future years and playing inter- house football next year.

For those of you that have not heard about Sports Hall Athletics, it is a competition which is held in the Winter months, inside when the weather is too cold to compete outside. It comprises of events, which simulate events in athletics but some have been altered to best suit an indoor area. Instead of long jump for example there is standing long jump and running races, which use boards against the wall to ensure that the pupils run a correct distance. There are also additional events such as speed bounce and chest push. All pupils were entered into a maximum of two track and two field events. We have had great success in the running relays, win- ning the girls’ Obstacle Relay, 1 lap relay and 2 lap relay and the boys winning the 1 lap relay. It was a team event but unfortunately, even after all of our wins we did not win overall. The pupils, should however, be very proud of their performances. Well done to all competitors.
