JUNIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
Please put an extra set of clothes in your child’s
bag if possible. Some children are needing an
extra set with the wet weather.
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Talofa lava
Last Wednesday saw our first entry into the
Southland Polyfest. I felt very proud sitting
watching the amazing performance of our
Pasifika Group. A huge thank you to all the
wonderful adults that made this performance
come to life. The uniforms were fantastic
and the performance was great. Well done.
The choir have been busy preparing with Miss
Jones for the annual Sing Out which will be
held this year on Tuesday 17 September. It
will again be a great night of talent so if you
have the chance, try and get along to enjoy
the night.
The winter sports season is nearing an end.
Many thanks to the coaches of the Netball
and Hockey teams who have given up their
time to take these teams. It is very much
appreciated. Congratulations to those
students who have made Representative
Teams.

POLYFEST 2013
On Wednesday the 21st
August, Ascot Community
School’s Pasifika Group went to perform at the
Murihiku Polyfest. It was a great experience for the
younger children and the older children as well
because we all had fun. We all worked hard at
rehearsals and we looked fantastic in our
costumes, thanks to the help of Mrs Kerr, Mrs
Frost, Mrs Maher, Mr Ripley and Toetu (Palolo’s
mum). The Polyfest was held at the Civic Theatre
from Tuesday to Friday. This was the first time for
Ascot Community School to perform on the
Polyfest Stage and I think that we performed at our
best. We could tell that our items were good
because the crowd cheered us on.

SWIMMING
Term 3 swimming is from 10 – 11am at Splash Palace.
On Tuesdays, children from Rooms 2 & 5 attend with those from Rooms 1, 4 & 7 on Thursdays.
Please ensure that your child has their swimming gear at school on those days. If they are to be excused from swimming,
for any reason, please send a note to school, or contact the School Office.

The Cluster Speech Finals were held at Ascot School
on Tuesday 20 August. Emily Hansen, Palolo Helu,
Jessie Paul & Lewis Thomson represented our school.
* * * * *
At the Speech Cluster finals Emily, Palolo, Jessie and
I had to do a two minute speech.
Rimu, Halfmoon Bay and Ascot Schools were there.
I was nervous when I went up. There were lots of
good speeches. My favourite was Marley’s and it was
on ‘Why you should eat your tea.’
