5. A Record of Accomplishment
Mitchell started in the media world
with an unpaid college internship at
WABC-TV in New York City. After
that, she worked as a researcher for
“Essence, The Television Program,”
and then moved into the brand-new
world of daytime talk show TV.
She worked with Geraldo Rivera
for more than 10 years on his talk
show “Geraldo” as a studio and field
producer, then as the supervising
producer. She eventually advanced
to the position of vice president of
development for Rivera’s company, a
role she held until the show ended its
run. She joined the staff of ABC TV in
the late 1990s, serving as a freelance
producer for “Live With Regis and
Kathie Lee.” In 2000, she became a
producer for CBS News, working for
the “Early Show” for 10 years.
After leaving CBS, Mitchell entered the
world of social media. In 2012 for the
Shorty Awards (dubbed “the Oscars
of Twitter” by The New York Times),
Mitchell arranged for Bravo TV’s Andy
Cohen to appear via a video hookup.
At that time Cohen was the executive
vice president of original programming
and development as well as host of
“Watch What Happens Live.”
In spring 2013, Mitchell served
as a live event producer for New
York City’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion
Week. She helped produce the first
Fashion Hackathon finale as part of
a collaboration between the Council
of Fashion Designers of America,
Condé Nast and Decoded Fashion.
The event provided a platform for
fashion leaders and tech experts to
share ideas and create a useful app
for the fashion industry.
Mitchell has worked shoulder to
shoulder with TV icons such as
Barbara Walters, Bryant Gumbel,
Harry Smith and Julie Chen. She
has also produced television shows
with former MSNBC anchor Christina
Brown, and TV personality and
blogger Rene Syler, who now runs
GoodEnoughMother.com. Mitchell is
currently the executive producer of
“Arise On Screen,” a weekly 30-minute
