Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease. The persistent metabolic condition
Diabetes mellitus is a rapidly spreading global issue that has serious social, health,
and economic ramifications. According to estimates, this illness affected 285
million people worldwide in 2010—roughly 6.4% of the adult population. If there
are no improvements in treatment or control, this number is projected to rise to
430 million. The two main causes of the increase are ageing and obesity. Also, it
has been demonstrated that about 50% of alleged diabetics do not receive a
diagnosis until 10 years after the commencement of the condition, indicating that
the true prevalence of diabetes worldwide must be extremely high. The types of
diabetes and its sequelae, including retinopathy, nephropathy, somatic and mental
problems, immune system damage,
periodontal disease, are introduced in this chapter.
