3. INTRODUCTION
• The West Central Railway (WCR) was first
established on 1st April 2003.
• Its headquarters is located in Jabalpur.
• It includes three divisions: Jabalpur, Bhopal
and Kota
• Total route of about 2965 km.
• Total electrified route 1328 km.
• Railway has total 17 zones.
• Zone 12 is West Central Railway. 3

7. SELF
GENERATION
DC Generator is mechanically
coupled with the coach wheel.
Due to residual magnetic field
and variable magnetic flux,
voltage is induced in the
generator
The voltage generated is then
sent to charge the DC Batteries.
Efficiency 57-60%
7
8. MID ON GENERATION (MOG)
Supply obtained at 110V through one power car in the center having
230kVA Diesel generator stops.
Used for trains having frequent stops.
Suitable for slow moving passenger trains.
8
9. 9
END ON GENERATION (EOG)
Employ two power cars at both
ends of the train.
Power cars fitted with 2x 750kVA
Diesel generator sets.
Supplies electricity to individual
coaches
A 24V , 90Ah Battery is provided
under frame along with battery
charger to provide emergency
lighting in times of power failure.
Mainly used in fully air conditioned
trains.
10. 10
HEAD ON GENERATION (HOG)
In this system, power is provided
to the locomotive from the head of
the train.
Electric locomotives drive power
from the overhead supply lines.
Power produced is 4500kW. The
power produced is supplied to all
loads in AC, Non-AC coaches.
These trains are hauled by WAP 7
locomotives.

PANTOGRAPH
A pantograph is an apparatus mounted on the roof of an electric train, tram or
electric bus to collect power through contact with an overhead catenary wire.
They are provided with steel stripes for current collection .
The raising and lowering of pantograph is by means of pneumatically operated
servomotor .
Used for suitable operation up to 140 km/hr.
13. 13
The RRU has mainly following functions :-
To rectify the 3 phase AC output of the
alternator through DC full wave bridge
rectifier.
Regulating the voltage generated by
the alternator at the set value .
Regulating the output current .
A safety fuse of 10 A is connected to
prevent the RRU box from abnormal
conditions .
RECTIFIER AND REGULATOR UNIT (RRU)

AIR CONDITIONING
Air conditioning is the process of
removing heat and moisture from
the interior of an occupied space,
to improve the comfort of
occupants
The first Indian air-conditioned
train was FRONTIER MAIL
which was introduced in 1934.
Earlier, the AC coaches of the
train were kept cool by using ice
blocks. These were replenished
at several halts along the line.

EQUIPMENTS OF AC SYSTEM
COMPRESSOR :- Compresses &
delivers gas into condenser at a high
pressure & high temperature.
CONDENSOR :- It cools the hot gas
and liquidates it under pressure.
EXPANSION VALVE :- It controls and
regulates the rate of flow of liquid
Freon under high pressure.
EVAPORATOR :- The cooling unit in
which liquid Freon under low pressure
evaporators & in-doing so takes away
the latent heat thereby cooling the
medium surrounding the cooling coil.

SUBSTATION
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission,
and distribution system.
Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse,
or perform any of several other important functions.
Between the generating station and consumer, electric power
may flow through several substations at different voltage levels.
A substation may include transformers to change voltage levels
between high transmission voltages and lower distribution
voltages, or at the interconnection of two different transmission
voltages

CONCLUSION
I HAVE LEARNED ALL THE THINGS REGARDING THE
TRAIN LIHGHTING AND AIR CONDITIONING IN
RAILWAY TRAINING DEPARTMENT. AND THIS
KNOWLEDGE IS VERY USEFUL FOR MY CARRIER.
