INTODUCTION
 ZONE OF IR
WEST CENTRAL RAILWAYS
• The WCR is one of the 17 zones of the Indian Railways ,came into existence on
1 April 2003. It is headquartered at Jabalpur.
• The zone serves eastern & central Madhya Pradesh, southern Uttar Pradesh,
and northeastern Rajasthan state.
• Zone 12 is West Central Railway.
SOME POINT ABOUT KOTA JUNCTION
LOCATION :- Bhimganj Mandi, Railway Colony
Rd, Railway station area, kota, rajasthan .

HOW DO TRAIN COACHES GET POWER ?

(1) SELF GENERATION
Converts Mechanical Energy into Electrical Energy
Axle driven system working on 110V DC
Efficiency 65-70%
(2) MID-ON-GENERATION
 Supply obtained at 110V through one power car in the center having 230
KVA diesel generator sets.
 Used for trains having frequent stops .
 Suitable for slow moving passenger trains .
(3) END-ON-GENERATION
 EOG with 415 V, 3 phase generation and 110V AC utilization.
 EOG with 750 V, 3 phase generation and 415 & 110 V AC utilization.
(4) HEAD-ON-GENERATION
 750 V DC - light & fan works on 110 V AC
 1500 V DC - light & fan works on 110 V AC
 25 KV - light & fan works on 141 V AC
PANTOGRAPH
• A pantograph (or "pan") is an apparatus mounted on
the roof of an electric train, tram or electric bus to
collect power through contact with an overhead
catenary wire.
• They are provided with steel stripes for current
collection .
• The raising and lowering of pantograph is by means
of pneumatically operated servomotor .
• Used for sutable operation up to 140 km/hr .
FLOW CHART
RRU(RECTIFIER CUM REGULATOR UNIT)
The RRU has mainly following functions :-
a) To rectify the 3 phase AC output of the
alternator through DC full wave bridge
rectifier.
b) Regulating the voltage generated by the
alternator at the set value .
c) Regulating the output current .
A safety fuse of 10 A is connected to
prevent the RRU box from abnormal
conditions .

AIR CONDITIONING IN TRAINS
 the term ‘air conditioning’ was coined by MR. S.W. Cramer
in 1906 while he was making efforts in putting the air in a fit
condition for the textile industry . The term has since come
into use in its broader sense implying control of any or all of
the physical or chemical properties of air within any
enclosure.
 The first Indian air-conditioned train was FRONTIER MAIL
which was introduced in 1934. Earlier, the AC coaches of the
train were kept cool by using ice blocks. These were
replenished at several halts along the line.
AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION CYCLE
EQUIPMENTS OF AC SYSTEM
• COMPRESSOR :- Compress & delivers gas into condensor at a high pressure &
high temperature.
• CONDENSOR :- It cools the hot gas and liquidates it under pressure.
• EXPANSION VALVE :- It controls and regulates the rate of flow of liquid freon
under high pressure.
• EVAPORATOR :- The cooling unit in which liquid freon under low pressure
evaporators & in-doing so takes away the latent heat thereby cooling the
medium surrounding the cooling coil.
SUBSTATION
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission,
and distribution system.
Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any
of several other important functions.
Between the generating station and consumer, electric power may flow
through several substations at different voltage levels.
A substation may include transformers to change voltage levels between high
transmission voltages and lower distribution voltages, or at the interconnection
of two different transmission voltages
