Organisation defines tourists as people

their usual environment for not more than
one consecutive year for leisure, business and

 India received 23.3 million foreign and domestic
tourists in 2016.
 World Travel & Tourism Council calculated that
tourism generated14.02 lakh crore or 9.6% of the
nation's GDP in 2016
 supported 40.343 million jobs, 9.3% of its total
employment in 2016
 Predicted to grow at an annual rate of 6.8%
to ₹28.49 lakh crore by 2027 (10% of GDP)

 In 2014, 184,298 foreign patients traveled to India
to seek medical treatment (projected to grow to $7–8
billion by 2020)
 About 10 million foreign tourists arrived in India in
2017 compared to 8.89 million in 2016, recording a
growth of 12.49%
 Worldwide, Delhi is ranked at 28 by the number of
foreign tourist arrivals, while Mumbai is ranked at
30, Chennai at 43, Agra at 45, Jaipur at 52
and Kolkata at 90.

the country’s GDP in the year 2015 along
with supporting 37.315 million jobs, which
makes for about 8.7% of the total
employment. The tourism industry of the
country has undergone various changes
over the period of time. Some of the latest

The World Tourism Organisation defines tourists as people “travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes.”

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INDIAN TOURISM  India received 23.3 million foreign and domestic tourists in 2016.  World Travel & Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated14.02 lakh crore or 9.6% of the nation's GDP in 2016  supported 40.343 million jobs, 9.3% of its total employment in 2016  Predicted to grow at an annual rate of 6.8% to ₹28.49 lakh crore by 2027 (10% of GDP)

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INDIAN TOURISM  In 2014, 184,298 foreign patients traveled to India to seek medical treatment (projected to grow to $7–8 billion by 2020)  About 10 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2017 compared to 8.89 million in 2016, recording a growth of 12.49%  Worldwide, Delhi is ranked at 28 by the number of foreign tourist arrivals, while Mumbai is ranked at 30, Chennai at 43, Agra at 45, Jaipur at 52 and Kolkata at 90.
