3. Cooling system??
A Cooling system is
collection of parts and
substances that work
together to maintain
temperature at optimum
levels.
4. Why advancement?
● Advance cooling system
offers a higher cooling
efficiency than the
traditional cooling system.
● This advance cooling
system also rises the total
mechanical efficiency of the
engine.
● And after all that’s our
topic so ….. Why not? :p
5. What advancements?
We have categorized it in mainly 3
ways.
● Graphite Foam for Radiator
Fins.
● Nano-Fluids in coolants.
● Slide vane rotary pump instead
of centrifugal pump.
6. Graphite Foam
Why?
Porous carbon foam has an
open, interconnected interior
structure and a very high
particular thermal
conductivity, which makes
the foam an exciting
alternative material in heat
transfer devices.
More heat dissipation can
be gained . Bcoz carbon
foam intensifies the
surface area exposed to
the air. This is mainly due
to the circumstance that
the carbon foam is porous
and permits the air to flow
through it in addition to
allowing the air to stream
around it.
7. 33%
The current radiator can be made smaller in size by 203mm (33%) in width.
That means there is an extra accessibility of 1630cm3 space in engine
compartment and decrease in the frontal surface area.
Radiator based on its design will be light in weight so engine’s power to
weight ratio will be increased.
8. But then why
haven’t we yet not
used graphite
foam??
● The most important
problem facing the
graphite foam heat
exchanger is the high
pressure drop.
● Dust Block.
● Low tensile strength.
9. NANO FLUIDS
Why?
● Increased Surface Area
● Increased heat transfer
efficiency.
● Surface area to volume
ratio increases.
10. Sliding Vane Rotary
Pump
How does it functions?
It has a circular rotor inside a
larger circular cavity.
The centres of the two circle are
offset, causing eccentricity.
Vanes are allowed to move in and
out of the rotor creating a seal on
all edges.It basically has two
circular chambers with an offset
11. Sliding Vane Rotary
Pump
Why?
It can maintain not just low viscosity
fluid but also high viscosity.
(You can even pump fluids as honey
:0)
Where a normal centrifugal pump
might get clogged due to steam , this
pump still can function at high fluid
temperatures.
Where a centrifugal pump might get
clogged up due to steam generated,
whereas the slide vane rotary pump
can function with high temp. Fluids as
12. Conclusion (Akhir kehna
kya chahte ho?)
Basically we discussed about three
methodologies through which we can
improve the working as well as fuel
efficiency, namely:
1. Graphite Foam for radiator fin
2. Nano-fluids in coolant.
3. Sliding Vane Rotary pump.
