2. WHAT IS CARDIOVASCULAR AGENTS
?
CARDIOVASCULAR DRUGS REFERS TO PRESCRIPTION
DRUGS AND MEDICINE FOR DISEASES RELATING TO THE
STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE HEART AND BLOOD
VESSELS.
THE CARDIOVASCULAR AGENTS USED IN THE TREATMENT
OF HEART FAILURE, CORONARY ARTERY DISEASES, HIGH
CHOLESTEROL, BLOOD CLOTS, CIRCULATION DISORDERS
AND OTHERS.
4. HYPERLIPIDEMIC DRUGS OR
HYPOLIPIDEMIC AGENTS
These are drugs which lower the levels of lipids
and lipoproteins in blood
The hypolipidaemic drugs have attracted
considerable attention because of their
potential to prevent cardiovascular disease by
retarding the accelerated atherosclerosis in
hyperlipidaemic individuals
5. HMG-COA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS
(STATINS)
Introduced in the 1980s, this class of compounds
are the most efficacious and best tolerated
hypolipidaemic drugs
They competitively inhibit Conversion of 3-
Hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-
CoA) to mevalonate (rate limiting step in CH
synthesis) by the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase
6. LOVASTATIN
It is the first clinically used statin
lovastatin which is mainly produced by
Aspergillus terreus strains is an inhibitor of
HMG-CoA reductase
The mechanism of action is lovastatin decrease
or reduce the choleserol synthesis by inhibition
of rate limiting HMG-CoA reuctase
11. LOVASTATIN DERIVATIVES:-
(PRAVASTATIN, SIMVASTATIN, MEVASTATIN)
Pravastatin and Simvastatin chemically modified derivatives of
Lovastatin
This derivatives are modified for improvements the actions of
lovastatin
