This document discusses several indices used to measure quality of life and human development, including the Human Development Index (HDI), Gini Index, and Index of Human Development adjusted for inequality.
The HDI measures life expectancy, education levels, and GDP per capita to evaluate human development by country. The Gini Index measures inequality in areas like income among a territory's inhabitants. The Index of Human Development adjusted for inequality considers how HDI achievements are distributed within a country.
Graphs and data show Mexico's HDI ranking and levels from 1990-2015, with its HDI considered high relative to other countries. The document concludes the HDI is important for analyzing countries' situations and encouraging government action to improve resources and enrich

2. The Human Development Index (HDI) helps us measure the quality
of life of human beings. To achieve this, it must be classified by
countries according to the level of development of the people who
inhabit it, in order to know what conditions they are in.
3. • Life expectancy at birth. Analyze the average age of the deceased in a year.
• Education. Collect the level of adult literacy and the level of studies reached primary, secondary,
higher education.
• GDP per capita at purchasing power parity. It considers the gross domestic product per capita
and evaluates access to the economic resources necessary for people to have a decent
standard of living.
¿And how is the HDI measured?
To know the index of each country, three variables must be taken into account:
4. Gini Index
This indicator is different from the HDI indicator, since it helps us to measure
the level of inequality among the inhabitants of a territory, which is usually a
country. In general, its use is concentrated in the field of economics to analyze
the differences in income of the inhabitants of a region, although the method
for the distribution of inequality in other fields such as chemistry, engineering
or Health.
5. What is the goal of GINI and what does it do for us?
The main objective of the Gini index is to help administrations
when it comes to guiding their public policies, and it helps us to
achieve greater economic development and equality among the
inhabitants of a territory, as well as to help people with fewer
resources get more income.
6. How is the Gini index measured?
The Gini index is based on the Lorenz Curve, which is represented in a
graph where:
• On the horizontal axis is the accumulated percentage of individuals or
households ranked in ascending order according to their level of
income.
• The accumulated percentage of income received by these individuals
is placed on the vertical axis.
7. Index of human development adjusted for inequality (IDH)
The (IDH-D) not only measures how a country advances in health,
education and income, but how those achievements are distributed
among citizens. In other words, the difference between IDH-D and
HDI is the loss to human development attributable to inequality. So
this indicator allows us to know a little more about the impact of
inequality on human development and can help to promote more
inclusive public policies.
8. Unfortunately, more and more people are aware that inequality within
countries and between countries is one of the biggest challenges in the
world today, because while some enrich themselves, others survive the
needs to maintain sanity in the face of poverty. However, the reduction of
inequality must be an end in itself, since it is the most expeditious way to
reduce poverty levels.

2014 0,758 74°

10. On the other hand, the level of human development in Latin America seems to be
increasing, since the region only lags behind Europe and Asia in the latest report
of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which assessed welfare in
188 countries during However, putting the magnifying glass to the figures reveal
two facts, there is no Latin American nation among the top 10, not even in the top
20 or 30, and inequality continues to put in check the progress of the region.
12. Conclusions
The HDI is very important, because thanks to these tests, we can analyze in
what situation the countries and their states are, this helps us so that the current
governments take action on the matter and improve the resources to the
peoples, in order to enrich those states. On the other hand, compared to other
countries, Mexico is in good position, since it is a country with a high HDI, in
comparison with other countries, although unfortunately not all states in Mexico
have a high HDI.
