14. Facing Challenges Head On
The company has overcome numerous
difficulties throughout its journey of
delivering flawless PPE to the
customers. Promotion of certified
products and their acceptability against
stiff competition from low priced
products from the unorganized sector
was one of the major challenges faced
by Mallcom India Limited initially. It
also had to establish a strong dealer
network across the Indian sub-
continent ensuring effective last mile
connect with the consumers.
Presently, the company has to deal
with issues such as promotion of the
established brand against cheap
imports. Fake products available in the
market is also a constant threat to the
brand’s goodwill and image.
Tackling the Pandemic Efficiently
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected
lives and businesses tremendously.
Furthermore, it has created an
unprecedented demand for PPE,
mostly in the healthcare industry,
which had resulted in their shortages
around the world. To tackle this
pandemic head-on, Mallcom
intensified their production of medical
textiles and facemasks to meet growing
market demands and for ensuring
supplies of essential PPE to frontline
healthcare professionals.
Opinions about the Industry
Team Mallcom believes that the rising
concerns regarding employee safety
and health, coupled with technological
advancements are expected to provide
high growth opportunities for PPE
manufacturers over the forecast period.
In addition, the growing demand for
sustainable raw materials for the
manufacturing of PPE, along with
product innovation, is expected to have
a positive impact on market expansion
over the projected period.
Words of Advice
Mr. Rana advises up and coming
entrepreneurs to follow their heart. He
further advises them, “Make everyone
realize that every single person’s life is
precious, whether he is a simple
migrant labourer working on a
construction site or a welder working
in a smelter factory”.
Marching Ahead
Some of the strategically driven plans
of Mallcom for the year 2021 include
product developments, portfolio
expansion, distribution network
expansion in the Asia – Pacific region
and the Middle East.
The firm believes that the digital age is
at a constant rise. Accordingly, it aims
to keep itself updated to be present
across multiple social media platforms.
Future Perspective
Team Mallcom believes that the Indian
PPE market is increasing at a CAGR of
12% due to the adoption of strict
regulatory framework for the safety of
workers against various health risks in
hazardous working environments. The
high cost associated with workplace
hazards post unlocking of the economy
and technological innovations for
improved PPE fabric resulting in
reduction of weight of the equipment
has increased PPE demand in the
country. This has further provided a
healthy push to the Indian Personal
Protection Equipment Market.
Team Mallcom states, “The key
demand drivers for our products are
healthcare and fabrication industries,
construction and automotive sectors,
oil and gas industry, pharmaceutical
industry, F&B industry”. The company
opines that the healthcare sector is
witnessing a growth in market
adoption for personal protection
equipment owing to continuously
increase in COVID -19 cases.

16. PPE Dynamics
In these testing times of the COVID-19 crisis, there has
been a rise in demand for Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE). It is expected that the Indian PPE market will grow
at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 16%
during 2021-2026.
Many factors have led to the growth of the PPE market in
India, which include increasing workplace safety, productive
innovations, increasing awareness of companies regarding the
worker’s health, and the growing rate of COVID-19 infections
in the country.
Another factor which has positively affected the growth of the
Indian PPE market is the increasing number of manufacturing
units and construction projects in the country. The rising
investments by international companies have also added to the
impetus of the PPE market in the country.
Categorization of the PPE Industry
The PPE market is classified in accordance with the category
type, industry type, distribution channel, region, company, and
so on. The market is divided into various category types such
as hand & arm, clothing, footwear, respiratory, head eye &
face, and others. The major market segment is dominated by
hand & arm and clothing segments. These segments are
expected to dominate the market in the future.
On the basis of industry type, the market is separated into
various segments such as construction & manufacturing, oil &
gas, healthcare, mining, firefighting, food & beverages,
chemicals, transportation, logistics, and others.
The largest industry segment continues to be the healthcare
industry, which is followed by oil & gas, firefighting, and
mining segments. In 2019, the country’s PPE market was
dominated by Western India. However, it is expected that the
country’s North region will witness faster growth within the
near future and transform into the most important regional
market by 2026.
Advantages of PPE Equipment
The PPE market witnessed a growth in its size, which
exceeded $50 billion, globally in 2019. This is because these
personal protective equipment protect humans from serious
infection and injuries and various hazards such as airborne
particulate matter, electrical, chemical, physical, heat, and
biohazards. The increasing awareness regarding prevention of
such hazards owing to the rising health and safety concerns
have also resulted in the growth of the PPE equipment market.
Rise of the PPE Equipment Industry
Various occupational safety organizations are introducing
stringent regulations to ensure the safety of employees and to
protect them from injuries and lethal viruses such as COVID-
19. This has led to the growth in demand for PPE products.
PPE equipment protect people from various lethal viruses,
chemicals, and hazardous substances. Many companies are
inclined towards opting for PPE kits to ensure worker safety
and are also complying with regulatory norms. This has had a
positive impact on the profitability of the industry.
The PPE market has witnessed significant gains owing to the
massive spread of the coronavirus pandemic. WHO has
declared that this virus is communicable and infectious and can
be spread through direct and indirect contact with the infected
person. Most people infected by COVID-19 experience various
symptoms such as fever and difficulty in breathing. To ensure
protection against this lethal virus, it is essential to don safe
PPE kits if people are travelling to high-risk areas or engaged
in high-risk occupations such as healthcare professionals,
chemical manufacturing professionals, and so on. These kits
act as a protective shield from deadly virus spread, workplace
accidents, infrastructure damages, and much more.
Manufacturers are making huge investments on product R & D
activities and expansions to ensure that they can cater to the
increasing PPE demand. The Defence Research and
Development Organization of India had worked together with

There are many prominent companies who are creative

names in the Indian PPE market include Mallcom India Ltd.,

Other prominent companies which are spearheading this
industry include Udyogi Plastics Private Limited, Venus Safety
& Health Private Limited, Sai Synergy LLP, Sure Safety
(India) Limited, and so on.
India Marches towards Self-Sufficiency in PPE
With the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, India picked up the pace
of producing indigenous PPE kits. However, at the beginning
of this successful journey, India had zero capacity to produce
PPE kits. But eventually many stakeholders collaborated with
the government of India, the Ministry of Health and Family
(MoHFW) Welfare, and the Ministry of Textiles (MoT) to
produce excellent final PPE products.
The government, along with the MoHFW and the MoT
also overcame various logistical and operational issues
and information gaps. It coordinated with different
institutions and organizations and formed different
committees and groups, which ensured that all the
hurdles and gaps have been overcome. These
coordinated efforts of multiple stakeholders and
the government helped in developing an
indigenous supply chain for PPE kits.
The government of India acted as an efficient
leader and carried out swift time management,
while the MoT and the MoHFW played their
roles in coordinating and monitoring the
actions of all the stakeholders. These constant
and dedicated efforts helped India to transform
from an import-dependent country to a country,
which can produce high-quality PPE kits on its
own.
The Indian personal protective equipment
industry is gradually evolving and has become
self-sufficient in providing excellent quality PPE
products to the ones in need. It is assisting the
country towards becoming stronger and more
confident in tackling this lethal virus, while emerging
with better protective options.

Essence of and
SAFETY
Hygiene Standards in
Workplaces during Covid-19
The Covid-19 Pandemic has
slowed down the global
economy and has almost got it
to a standstill. The lockdown which
feels like it will never end is impacting
businesses and safety of workplaces
are increasing concerns for facility
teams which are handling the situations
across the globe.
Though companies scramble to resume
operations in India, the risk of
contracting the virus at work looms
large in everyone's minds. Today,
facility management firms have taken
on the responsibility of protecting
workplaces from the novel
coronavirus. Many businesses hire
skilled cleaning firms to provide
disinfection services and to develop
procedures for maintaining hygiene
and keeping the workplace safe for
their employees. Dealing with experts
in the sector gives you the assurance
that you will be treating the workplace
in a safe, germ-free manner, lowering
the risk of transmission.
COVID safety precautions
To deal with the situation of making
the workplace safer, organisations
should form a special committee led by
a senior management person and
www.insightssuccess.in
22 | MAY 2021
25. include members from key
departments. The committee's main
goals will be to develop policies,
workplace ethics, training, and
communication about decisions made
solely to deal with the COVID
situation. The committee will decide
the number of people who will come to
work, entry procedures, work
assignment, eating plans, toilet
hygiene, conference room use, and
other general areas that workers will
use. They must also respond to any
employee questions or clarifications
that arise on the spot, monitor and
maintain the policies that have been
put in place.
Prior to the arrival of the workers, the
facility disinfection vendor must be
selected, and the frequency of
disinfection determined. Using a
professional service provider makes it
easier for the team to draw up
operating protocols, such as discussing
essential disinfection touch points and
selecting industry-recognized
disinfectants and implementation
procedures. Here are a few simple
steps to take precautions while in the
workplace.
Safety steps which will definitely
ensure a workplace safe from
viruses:
Maintain Health: The measure of the
cumulative health of the workplace is
only as strong as the weakest link. In
order for a holistic environment there
needs to be a strong sense of initiative
among every individual to keep their
own health safe and therefore everyone
around them. It starts with self-care
and self-care eventually leads to the
www.insightssuccess.in MAY 2021 | 23
26. maintenance of a safe and healthy
workplace. Maintaining health on an
individual scale is as rudimentary as
following a wholesome diet of all the
nutrients and vitamins necessary to
keep the immune system at its peak.
Along with this, a good sleep cycle and
a daily workout routine which could
include simple calisthenics and yoga at
home is ideal. Employees must take
care of their health at work and while
commuting every day. Common colds,
coughs or fever may be a symptom of
COVID-19 or just a simple illness.
Precaution is best and if an employee
is feeling ill, it is best to work from
home. Staying hydrated is a must to
top it all off.
Maintain Clean Hands: We
unknowingly tend to touch our faces
very often. This allows your body to be
exposed to the germs from the surfaces
of all the places your hands touched.
The surfaces of various objects around
could have active bacteria. Hence, the
hands must be sanitized at regular time
periods. The safest way to eliminate all
possibility of infection is to rinse your
hands with cold water and soap for at
least two minutes thoroughly. Keeping
a sanitizer handy is a must for the
situations in which you do not have
access to a wash basin.
Minimize contact: Workplaces should
not be operating at full capacity.
According to the government
regulations the number of employees
in the workplace must be half of what
it usually was. The existing employees
must be seated alternatively. Simple
habits like bringing your own
belongings can help in limiting the
interaction between employees. Social
distancing must be always followed
and in all places. Employees must
always maintain a two-meter distance
from each other.
Mask Up: According to the new
government guidelines, masks are now
mandatory as they help reduce the
chance of infection to a great degree.
Masks in general also help in filtering
particles like dust, bacteria etc. Since
the virus is now known to be airborne,
a good quality mask prevents the
particles from entering your system.
The mask helps the transmitter and
receiver both, to minimise the spread
of the disease.
Monitor News: Lastly, employees
must follow credible news for the latest
government guidelines to safeguard
self. Staying updated and aware of all
the facts is essential and a
responsibility of every individual.
Stay Positive: Mental health is a
crucial part of the whole well-being of
a person. Your physical health depends
upon the quality of your mental health
as well. Meditation is a simple act of
observing one’s breath, relaxing every
muscle in the body and coming to the
present and trying to experience the
current moment. This simple activity
has proved to improve mental stability
and concentration as it releases
serotonin and endorphins (chemicals
that make you happy) in your brain on
demand. In these stressful and tough
times, we must make sure we support
each other and ourselves by
remembering that we have tremendous
capacity to adapt, survive, change and
even blossom.

29. People
travel for
treatment
for a variety of
reasons. Medical
tourism has grown in
popularity as the
globalisation of health has
progressed. Medical tourism has
also benefited from international
trade in health services. While most
people prefer to have their illnesses
treated closer to home, several
factors can sometimes cause
problems while seeking medical
help. Certain specialists or cutting-
edge treatments are not always
available in a convenient locations.
The patient may be placed on a long
waiting list in some cases.
Medical tourism is the process of visiting
outside of one's home country with the
goal of seeking medical treatment.
Originally, the word referred to patients
travelling from less-developed countries
to developed countries in search of
treatments that were not available in their
home country.
Today, we're seeing both qualitative and
quantitative trends in patient mobility, as
people go from more developed to less
developed countries in search of health
care. The relative low cost of treatments
in less developed countries, the
availability of low-cost flights, and more
marketing and online consumer
information about the availability of
medications are all driving this
movement.
The Condition Today
For more than a decade, India has been a
popular medical tourism destination,
with thousands of individuals flocking to
the country each year for treatment. The
majority of the visitors are from Asian
and African countries. People from so-
called bubble countries like the United
States, the United Kingdom, and
Australia make up a small percentage of
the population.
This number decreased as a result of the
coronavirus epidemic, which resulted in
lockdowns and airline cancellations
between several Asian and African
countries. However, the total visitor
influx is presently progressively
increasing. With the lifting of worldwide
travel restrictions and lockdowns, Indian
medical tourism hopes to advance in a lot
of important instances such as organ
transplants and other serious instances.
Around 21 patients from Myanmar and
Burma were carried in on a charter flight
to Apollo Hospital for kidney or liver
transplants. This indicates that the
number of persons seeking therapy is
gradually increasing. Unfortunately, not
everyone can afford charted flights,
which is why the number is so tiny. So
that's where we're at right now.

What India Can Do To Boost Medical
Tourism
In the post-COVID era, there are three
things India can do to encourage medical
tourism. The first is that we need to do a
better job of publicising the facilities
available at some of our big hospitals,
which are on par, if not better than, those
available in our target countries, and at a
fraction of the cost of what they would
be in Europe and the United States. As a
result, more awareness is required.
Second, just as we have COVID-19
vaccine diplomacy, we should have
medical tourism diplomacy, and we need
to make high commissions in various
countries more aware that medical
tourism is not just a potential income
earner, but also a potential goodwill
earner.
Finally, but certainly not least, some
form of public-private partnership
amongst hospitals for medical treatment
will undoubtedly be beneficial. This is
due to the fact that there are a number of
government hospitals that provide
treatment on par with private hospitals.
Better coordination can be quite
beneficial.
Future of Medical Tourism
In the post-Covid age, things are going to
change for the better in terms of medical
tourism for India. This is due to India's
handling of the pandemic. During the
present epidemic, doctors, hospitals, and
paramedical staff have done an excellent
job, as evidenced by the fact that the
ratio of total patients to death patients is
less than 1.5 percent. Another crucial
factor is that many health-care personnel
have received COVID-19 vaccinations.
This means that medical personnel are
safe and will not spread the sickness to
others.
