4. INTRODUCTION
• Discovered in Kao-ling mountain of china.
• Most common, about 50% in earth crust.
• produced by the chemical weathering of feldspar.
• Average size is 0.1 to 5.0
• Appeared as white powdery form.
5. Structure
• Composed of one tetrahedral sheet of SiO4 and one octahedral
sheet of AlO6
• The space between layer is 0.72nm

6. IMPORTANT PROPERTIES
It is very innocent mineral because there is
no shrinkage, swelling, wetting and drying.
It has very low CEC (cation exchange
capacity)
7. USES IN AGRICULTURE
• Importance in agricultural soil is due to its role in phosphate and
sulfate adsorption.
• In seed coatings, Coated seeds are better protected against
adverse field conditions while improving germination.
• use as a diluent/carrier in pesticides.
• In urea fertilizer, help retain the granular nature of the fertilizer
and prevent caking.
