• It is commonly known as “Electronic Marketing ” 
• It consists of buying and selling goods and services 
over an electronic system such as internet . 
• E commerce is the process of purchasing , selling & 
exchanging good and services over computer network 
or internet through which transactions or terms of sale 
are performed electronically.
History of e-commerce 
1970s=Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) 
 used by banking industry to exchange account 
information over secured network 
1980s=Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) 
 used by company or business to transfer data 
from one business to another 
1990s=the World Wide Web(WWW) 
 internet provide easy to use technology for 
information publishing and Dissemination

does not carry but it suddenly sources the products 
itself, at a much lower price. 
Supplier risk : Your top-selling product line is suddenly 
pulled from the market and you are faced with a huge 
loss of revenue.
Future of e Commerce in India 
India's e-commerce market, which stood at $2.5 billion 
in 2009, reached $8.5 billion in 2012 and rose 88 per 
cent to touch $16 billion in 2013. The survey estimates 
the country's e-commerce market to reach $56 billion 
by 2023, driven by rising online retail.
