3. Definition of solubility..
In quantitative terms, it may be defined as the concentration
of the solute in a saturated solution at a certain temperature.
OR
In qualitative terms, the spontaneous interaction of two or
more substances to form a homogeneous molecular
dispersion.
The solubility may be expressed as parts, percentage,
molarity, molality, volume fraction, and mole fraction.
4. Need of solubility…
Drug absorption from the GIT is a most important process
for getting therapeutic effect BUT
Its limited by various factors like poor aqueous solubility
and permeability of drug molecules.
After orall administration of drug, it first dissolved in GI
fluids or intestinal fluids, prior to permeation through GI
membrane in order to reach systemic circulation.
Therefore, to enhance bioavailabilty of active agents, the
p’ceutical researcher focus on two area include enhancing
solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water soluble drugs.
5. Classification of Solubility Enhancement Techniques..
The solubility enhancement technique are classified as per
following way,
A) Chemical Modifications:
Salt Formation
Co-crystallization
Co-solvency
Hydrotropy
Use of novel solubilizer
Nanotechnology
